00:00:47l'Agenzia Stampa NEV, Parent Circle Families Forum, che dal 1995 mette insieme chi in quella zona del mondo ha perso un parente stretto a causa del conflitto
00:00:59e ha deciso di non proseguire la guerra ma di fare la pace addirittura con la parte avversa.
00:01:06Voi che mi fermo o faccio tutto la prima parte?
00:01:10Combatants for Peace è un'altra associazione nata nel 2006 che, pensate, mette insieme chi ha combattuto il conflitto in prima persona,
00:01:20ha partecipato attivamente alla battaglia, perdendo i propri amici e le proprie amiche, ma a un certo punto incontra l'altro e vuole creare progetti di pace.

00:02:04Dear friends, welcome to this prestigious venue.
00:02:08We're lucky to have a couple of minutes more so that I can spend a couple of words about the projects
00:02:14that we run and that bring together a number of different souls and initiatives.
00:02:19I want to thank you all very much for coming here to this press conference.
00:02:25First of all, I want to thank our two MPs from the Italian Parliament's lower chamber,
00:02:32Mr. Vacari and Mr. Chani.
00:02:34The project is entitled Helping Peace Builders and it features today four prestigious guests
00:02:45from Israel and from the occupied Palestinian territories belonging in pairs
00:02:51to two different associations that have been committed for the past many years
00:02:57to the building of peace between the two conflicting parties.
00:03:03One of them is parent circle form of families that was created, established in 1995 by people
00:03:15who had lost from either conflicting party, who had lost a dear one, a relative and decided
00:03:22that they wanted to put an end to conflict and try to build peace.
00:03:26The other association is the Competence for Peace.
00:03:30It was established in 2006 and together these people who have actually taken up arms and fought
00:03:38in the first person during the conflict have decided to set, to lay down their weapons
00:03:45and also after having lost friends and fellows and decided instead to go out and meet the opposite side
00:03:55in order to create a project of peace.
00:03:58Again, I want to thank our hosts, first and foremost, the Federation of the Evangelical Churches of Italy,
00:04:03whose president, Daniele Garrone, honors us with his presence here,
00:04:08and, of course, the coordinator of the project, Professor Deborah Spini from the University of Florence.

00:06:16che anche possiamo dare insieme ai costruttori di pace che sono impegnati in prima linea.

00:07:46for an inter-parliamentary group for peace in dialogue.
00:07:49I am also a member of that grouping,
00:07:53which is truly acting in the same spirit of your presence here,
00:07:57in the spirit of trying to help the builders of peace.
00:08:00Dicevo, sono molto legato a questo progetto
00:08:04perché un po' di anni fa, nel 1993, per la precisione,
00:08:09assieme all'allora direttore di confronti, Paolo Naso,
00:08:14io ero un giovane assessore alla cultura del mio comune,
00:08:19non Antola, in provincia di Modena,
00:08:22portammo questo progetto che si chiamava Semi di Pace
00:08:27in un comune che, diciamo, la sua storia l'ha vista segnata
00:08:35nel secondo conflitto mondiale
00:08:38con il salvataggio di 73 ragazzi ebrei
00:08:43che furono messi in salvo in Svizzera
00:08:47grazie alla collaborazione tra l'allora medico condotto,
00:08:53dottor Giuseppe Moreali, il parroco Don Arrigo Beccari
00:08:58e tanti cittadini e cittadine di non Antola
00:09:02che contribuirono a costruire le condizioni
00:09:06per mettere in salvezza, subito dopo l'8 settembre del 43,
00:09:11prima nel seminario e anche presso case e abitazioni private
00:09:17e poi verso la Svizzera.
00:09:19Ecco, questo, diciamo, in questo luogo
00:09:24questo progetto che ha come obiettivo
00:09:28quello di far incontrare esponenti della società civile
00:09:32israeliana e palestinese
00:09:34impegnate nell'educazione alla pace
00:09:38e al dialogo interreligioso
00:09:40ha fatto sì che nel 2004 nascesse una fondazione
00:09:45per conservare e valorizzare la memoria
00:09:49di quell'episodio di resistenza civile
00:09:51del secondo conflitto mondiale
00:09:53di cui confronti e socio fondatore
00:09:57così come lo è la comunità ebraica di Modena e Reggio Emilia
00:10:01così come lo è la parrocchia e la diocesi di Modena non Antola
00:10:06così come lo sono l'istituto storico di storia contemporanea
00:10:11la provincia di Modena, il comune di Modena e il comune di Non Antola
00:10:14a significare, diciamo, la volontà
00:10:17di, diciamo, costruire dialogo, confronto
00:10:23e portare avanti la memoria

00:11:38and many citizens of Non Antola
00:11:40actively engaged
00:11:41in rallying together
00:11:4373 young Jews
00:11:46and helping them
00:11:48leave Italy
00:11:49and go to shelter
00:11:51in Switzerland
00:11:52which actually happened
00:11:54so all of these people
00:11:56together contributed
00:11:57to creating the conditions
00:11:59for the salvaging
00:12:01of these young lives
00:12:03first by hosting them
00:12:04hiding them
00:12:05really in their seminary
00:12:06or in private homes
00:12:08and then
00:12:09helping
00:12:10across the Italian border
00:12:12into Switzerland
00:12:13this project
00:12:18the project
00:12:19that brings you here
00:12:20of course
00:12:20also has the goal
00:12:22of helping members
00:12:24of the Israeli
00:12:25and Palestinian
00:12:26civil societies
00:12:27meet

00:21:20e quindi noi abbiamo voluto provare a fare un passo in più per capire come aiutare
00:21:28in questa fase della nostra storia a far qualcosa di più nella ricerca della pace e del dialogo tra i popoli.
00:21:39Evidentemente in questa ricerca quello che accade in Israele, nei territori occupati, nella striscia di Gaza
00:21:49ha una sua importanza particolare per tanti motivi, per la storia, per la gravità di quello che sta accadendo,
00:22:01per i grandi legami che da italiani, da romani abbiamo con lo Stato di Israele, con il popolo ebraico,
00:22:13con il popolo palestinese, progetti di cooperazione, di amicizia, antichi
00:22:19e quello che sta accadendo per noi è un dramma enorme, è una tragedia enorme, è una ferita che non vogliamo far finta di non vedere.
00:22:32Per questo motivo sappiamo che ogni guerra e ogni conflitto ha tra i suoi motori moltiplicatori
00:22:42la disumanizzazione del nemico e dell'altro e sappiamo bene che il primo passo per fermare questo è l'incontro e il dialogo.
00:22:56Per questo motivo la vostra esperienza è molto significativa e siamo felici di ospitarla, di ascoltarla,
00:23:06perché per aiutare i costruttori di pace bisogna incontrarli, farli parlare, ascoltarli
00:23:15e solo attraverso questo penso che riusciremo a fermare l'odio. Grazie.
00:23:36Sì, anche se ci sono stati anche in un'esplice in un'esplice,

00:24:43So, in this quest for peace and dialogue, of course, what has been going on in Israel and the occupied territories since October the 7th
00:24:58and what is going on still today in Gaza, holds special importance in our eyes, because it is so grave, it is so serious.
00:25:11We, as representatives of the Italian parliament, acknowledge and fully subscribe to the time-honored ties that Italy and Rome, in particular, have
00:25:20with the state of Israel, with the Jewish people, but also with the Palestinian people.
00:25:25And we try to foster all possible friendship and cooperation projects.
00:25:34The huge tragedy of this Middle Eastern conflict is a wound that we will not pretend we cannot see.
00:25:43And we believe, all of us, I think, believe that one of the multipliers in this conflict, in this full-fledged war, by now,
00:25:54has been and is the dehumanization of the opposite party.
00:25:59This is the reason why we believe that in order to stop this, we need to all make the effort of stopping hate,
00:26:07to stop dehumanizing the counterpart, and the first step in order to achieve that goal is, of course, bringing the parties together
00:26:16and helping and fostering dialogue.
00:26:20So, I'll be looking, together with everyone else in the room, forward to hearing you out,
00:26:26and we renew our commitment to helping all the builders of peace.

00:27:49E ci ha colpito il fatto che non solo da anni, ma anche adesso che il conflitto si è acuito ed è sempre più drammatico,
00:27:58continuano non solo a dialogare, ma a promuovere una cultura della pace.
00:28:05Dunque il nostro primo obiettivo è far conoscere e sostenere questa storia,
00:28:12direi anche la loro postura, il loro modo di starci e l'impegno che perseguono.
00:28:17Terza frase, abbiamo un'attesa connessa alla testimonianza che ci daranno,
00:28:27cioè che vedendo come loro riescono a fare quello che riescono a fare là,
00:28:35forse possiamo imparare anche noi qui a ragionare, dialogare e agire in modo diverso

00:46:25is the great despair, especially after October 7th, and the need to find a place with hope,
00:46:36and so to join an organization that works with youth, both Israeli and Palestinian,

00:46:48to be a part of an organization that is co-resisting the occupation and the war
00:46:53is something very radical these days,
00:46:58and the joint memorial ceremony that we organize together with the Family Forum
00:47:04is something that is unheard of in the Israeli-Palestinian reality nowadays.

00:47:25And I'm originally from Kibbutz Be'eri.
00:47:30And that is where my mother, Vivian Silver, didn't survive the massacre on October 7th.
00:47:40For me, it was a day that was mainly characterized in helplessness.
00:47:48And out of that helplessness, I felt a very strong sense of responsibility
00:47:57to become engaged and to contribute whatever I can to change our reality
00:48:04and shape our futures of both of our peoples.
00:48:07And so I quit my job as a social worker, and this is what I've been doing since.
00:48:17One of the main activities of mine is I joined the board of the Parent Circle Family Forum,
00:48:25which is an organization of, it's a joint cross-border organization
00:48:30of bereaved families working together to acknowledge each other's pain
00:48:37with the understanding that first we will cry together,
00:48:44then we will be able to build together.
00:48:48We have educational programs, dialogue sessions.
00:48:53We have narrative programs for adults.
00:48:55We have a youth summer camp.
00:48:57And all of these programs are very transformational for the people who go through them.
00:49:07But one of the main reasons why we advocate our programs abroad
00:49:12is because we know that they work, and we need more capacity for them
00:49:19and more support and legitimation.

00:55:35MEPA was 50 million dollars a year and it was nothing as well.
00:55:38and if you're from all MEP, you're probably familiar with the international fund that was towards peace in Northern Ireland,
00:55:50which had, at some point, they reached a capacity of about 40 dollars or euros per capita for peace building.
00:56:01In Israel and Palestine, it's around a dollar.
00:56:05And opposite for that, we have so much resources and diplomatic impunity coming in to the status quo,
00:56:22to war, to war, to occupation, to urbanization, so we know what we need.
00:56:31We need capacity building for civil society and we need assertive diplomacy from the international community
00:56:41and incentives and sanctions.
00:56:47This is what we need, in my mind, we have been living, in my mind, we have been living for many, many years
00:57:04in a conflict-based consciousness, which means that in order for each people, personally,
00:57:13for a person who is Israeli or Palestinian, to have internal order in their world,
00:57:19they need binary thinking, they need to keep it as all the good is on my side, all the bad is on the other side.
00:57:31And that's natural, because we are maintaining a conflict.
00:57:35So, if we start to understand that our conflict is not between two definitive sides, Israel and Palestine,
00:57:50but between two forces of life and death, and these two forces, both of these forces are in both of the peoples,
00:57:59and the affiliation group is the peace movement, and not, I'm Israeli, so I'm with the Israelis,
00:58:07they're Palestinian, they're with the Palestinians, we will continue to humanize each other,
00:58:13we will begin to invest ourselves in solutions, and not in unsustainable fantasies of exclusivity on the land.

01:02:52da parte della comunità internazionale, anche sanzioni.
01:02:56Queste sono le cose delle quali occorre, diciamo,
01:03:00abbiamo bisogno oggi sul terreno.
