00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10We've got Megan on the phone today who's honoring her father for Military Monday.
00:14Good morning, Megan. How you doing?
00:16I'm great. How are you?
00:17I am great, too. I'm glad you're on the show with us.
00:20So we want to talk about your dad, Robert. Tell us about his service.
00:22What branch did he serve in? How long did he serve for?
00:24Yeah, so my dad was in the Navy for 20 years, and then he retired.
00:32And did this all take place as you were growing up?
00:34Yeah, so he joined right out of high school, and then he went to the Philippines,
00:43and then he went over to Hawaii, where me and my brother were born,
00:48and then we lived in San Diego for a little bit.
00:51And then when he retired, he moved on over to Florida.
00:54Oh, wow. So you guys moved around a lot when you were younger.
00:57I know that's kind of tough, but also kind of cool you get to see a lot of different places.
01:02Yeah, no, it definitely was a cool experience.
01:04Super thankful.
01:06We got the opportunity to live in, you know, California.
01:09Hawaii.
01:11Yeah, played a lot of sports there.
01:15My dad was a big influence on a lot of that.
01:17Softball, BMX, he helped coach me a lot.
01:20Oh, so he was able to serve and also have time to, you know, coach you guys
01:24and be a part of your childhood quite a bit, huh?
01:26So, so.
01:27I feel like when I was, like, you know, around probably toddler age,
01:31I don't really obviously remember much.
01:33I know he was out a lot on the ship and stuff,
01:36and my mom was the one taking care of us a lot.
01:38But towards his retirement, he definitely was a big figure
01:43and definitely helped out a lot, like I said, with all the sports and stuff
01:46and helped pave in that way for us.
01:48And what did he do? What was his specialty in the Navy?
01:51Yeah, so he did search and rescue for a little bit, and then he was a welder.
01:55Oh, okay. Nice.
01:56Yeah, you got to work on the Navy ships, of course, so that's an important gig.
01:59Yes, it is.
02:00You want to make sure those things are still floating.
02:02Yep.
02:02So, you know, outside the military, how would you describe your dad?
02:06He is such an awesome guy, such a foodie, loves food.
02:11He is an awesome cook.
02:14He loves the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
02:17Such a caring guy.
02:18Loves his family.
02:20Yeah.
02:21All right, well, very cool, Megan.
02:22Well, I'm just so glad that you reached out to honor your dad.
02:25I think that's great.
02:25My dad was in the service as well, so I kind of get it.
02:28I didn't have to move around as much as you guys did,
02:29but it sounds like you got to see different parts of the world
02:32and Robert does sound like an awesome guy
02:34and we're so thankful for his service
02:36and we know that the rest of your family makes sacrifices as well,
02:39I mean, including your mom, so we appreciate that.
02:42And we want to do this.
02:43We want to give you a $100 Amex gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets to give to him.
02:47It's a small way for us to say thank you
02:49and thank you to you as well for letting us honor him today.
02:51That's so awesome.
02:52Thank you guys so much.
02:53You got it, Megan.
