00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10Hi, Amy's on the phone today, going to be recognizing her daughter.
00:13Good morning, Amy. How you doing?
00:15Good, how are you?
00:16We are great. We're so glad you reached out to us.
00:17So let's talk about Courtney, your daughter. Tell us how she serves our country.
00:21She's in the Navy. She's been in the Navy for four years now.
00:25All right. Now, is she following the footsteps of other people in the family, you know, when it comes to serving?
00:30Her grandfather did, yes. And then my grandfather also, but she mostly is doing it because of her grandfather.
00:36She wanted to honor him.
00:37Wow.
00:37Oh, I love that.
00:39Very nice.
00:39What were you thinking when she first told you, hey, mom, I'm going to enlist?
00:44I wasn't too crazy about it, but she was already 18, so I couldn't really stop her.
00:48And it was something that she's always talked about throughout high school.
00:51She did the Criminal Justice Academy at her high school for the four years she was there.
00:56So that's what kind of pushed her even more to want to join the military.
00:59Now, she's in the Navy. So what does she do in the Navy or what does she want to do in the Navy? What are her goals?
01:05She's a BM-3 right now. And on her ship is a cockpit pilot. She drives a little boat. She actually just became a rigged captain for those boats.
01:15Oh, wow. She's running the show over there.
01:17Yep, she does.
01:18Holy cow.
01:19Wow. And she's going to be deployed for the next eight or nine months?
01:22Yes, she is. She's out there right now.
01:23Can you say where or no?
01:25I don't know myself. All I know is she's traveling across the Atlantic. That's all I know.
01:29Gotcha. Okay.
01:30Do you get to talk to her often?
01:32Right now, the only communication we have is through email text or Facebook Messenger. There's no phone calls or anything right now.
01:40Understood, obviously, because they want to be tracked.
01:41I know, but your daughter's in the middle of the ocean. Are you okay?
01:46I have my moments.
01:48Right. You know, and Lana, that's a good question. So, Amy, how do you keep yourself positive? Obviously, you want your daughter to be safe and you're praying for her. I mean, how do you stay in kind of a positive state of mind?
01:58I just keep praying to God that she stays safe. It's hard. It is, but what am I going to do?
02:06Yeah, you know, all you can do really is pray. And, you know, from what you're describing, it sounds like she is very well trained and you just kind of have to trust that, I guess. But we'll definitely be praying for her as well.
02:16So when she's not deployed and she's hanging out at home, what does she like to do?
02:19She loves the outdoors. She loves to hunt and fish. She loves going out, like, in the boat. She loves four-wheeling. She loves kneeboarding behind the boat. She's a very big-time outdoor girl. We're originally from Ceyron, Wisconsin. It's a little tiny town up in northwest Wisconsin. So we've only been in Florida for 13 years this year. So she basically grew up in the outdoors.
02:42I think the bigger question is, are you still a Packers fan or have you switched over to the Buccaneers?
02:47I am not. I'm a Minnesota Vikings fan, to be honest.
02:51Oh! Amy! You just became my best friend.
02:54You know, Lana's from Minnesota.
02:55I'm from Minnesota.
02:56And my daughter's an adult cowboy fan.
02:59There's two of us now, Amy. Thank you. I laughed, actually, I should say.
03:03Hey, okay, well, what's your Vikings bar?
03:05Riveter's. It's next. It's on Del Mabry, just south of the stadium. There you go. Come watch games with us.
03:11Oh, boy.
03:11Hey, no, Amy, seriously, we are so glad you reached out to us. And we are so happy to learn
03:18about someone like Courtney, who is serving our country. And is this something that she
03:22wants to make a career out of?
03:23She's got less than a year left. She's only doing it five years.
03:27Okay, and then what's the plans for after?
03:28She wants to go to college, and she wants to become a NICU nurse.
03:32Oh, wow.
03:33Just to keep on serving.
03:35You're very proud of your daughter.
03:37I am.
03:37Well, hopefully, we'll get to meet her soon when she comes back, and we'll be praying
03:42for you, because we know you make sacrifices as well. I'm praying for her. And we'd like
03:45to do this. We'd like to give you a $100 Amex gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets, and
03:49when she gets back, maybe you guys can do a little shopping together or go get a great
03:52meal, okay?
03:53All right, that's cool. Thank you.
03:54You got it, Amy. Stay positive and hang on from me, okay?
03:58All right, thank you.
