00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10We got Courtney on the phone for Military Monday. We get to honor her daughter today.
00:14Good morning, Courtney. How are you?
00:15Good morning. Thank you.
00:17We are glad you're on the show, but we got to learn about Alexia, your daughter.
00:20So first tell us where she went to high school here and then how she kind of determined to go into the Navy.
00:25She went to Leonard High School in Ruskin, Florida.
00:28Okay.
00:28She wanted to do anything in political science, but then she had a friend named Jasmine,
00:36and they both wanted to go into the military, and she decided she wanted to go into the Navy.
00:41That's where she is now.
00:42So what did you think about that, Mom, when Alexia came to you and told you that?
00:46I was pretty scared, pretty nervous, pretty scared.
00:48But knowing that her friend was going with her, she had a lot of support, too.
00:53Absolutely, and the people that helped them, they were really, really good, hands-on.
00:59Explaining everything to her.
01:01Told her, this is what you're going to do.
01:02This is what's going to happen.
01:03And she just had a great support system.
01:06So what year did she join the Navy?
01:08She joined last year.
01:09Oh, wow.
01:10She graduated and went right in.
01:12She's only 19 years old.
01:14Wow.
01:14Wow.
01:15All right.
01:15So a year in, she says, all right, Mom, joining the Navy.
01:18Now that she's a year in, when she calls home, by the way, she is stationed in Hawaii.
01:22Oh, nice.
01:23Oh, man.
01:24Fantastic.
01:25But anyway, now when she calls home, other than being in Hawaii, how does she speak about
01:29the Navy as far as, you know, what is she doing in the Navy now?
01:32And how do you feel like she's adapted to the military life?
01:35She absolutely loves it.
01:37She is a hospital apprentice, a courseman over there, and she helps make sure everybody's
01:43ready to be deployed.
01:45Wow.
01:45Oh, okay.
01:46Yes.
01:46So going back to when Alexia was even more of a kid, because she's only 19 now, you know,
01:50she grew up here in the Tampa Bay area.
01:52What were some of the things she was doing?
01:54She loved cheerleading.
01:55She cheered for the East Bay Bucks, which is a local organization over here.
02:00And then when she went to Leonard, she played flag football.
02:04Okay.
02:04So she played football for her four years at Leonard High School, and she was just really
02:09into political science.
02:11She was determined that she was going to be the next president.
02:14Wow.
02:14And then, you know, then she just said, okay, I want to be a nurse, and she just went from
02:20there.
02:21This is a fantastic story, and she sounds like she's in the exact right spot that she
02:26needs to be, because she has all these opportunities to do that.
02:28Yeah.
02:29When's the next time she gets to come home?
02:31We're trying to get her home for Christmas, but we don't know.
02:33Okay.
02:34All right.
02:34Gotcha.
02:34Well, listen, we want you to do this.
02:35Well, hopefully she will be home for Christmas.
02:37We want you to give her this $100 Amex gift card from Tampa Premium Outlets.
02:40Maybe mom and daughter can go have a little shopping spree or whatever, but just a way
02:45for us to say thank you so much for her service.
02:47Please give our love to her, and we are so thankful for her and you.
02:52All right.
02:52Thank you so much, and thanks for doing this.
02:54It is our absolute pleasure.
02:56We appreciate you, Courtney.
02:57Well, those are the stories we love hearing.
