00:00It's time your collectibles get some artistic altering.
00:04Here's a look at the brand new McFarland Toys Todd's Mods Limited Edition Collector Vinyls.
00:23Get ready for stylized vinyl portrayals of Batman, Bane and Swamp Thing.
00:27Each come in a window box for easy display and measures about four and a half inches tall.
00:32Focused more clearly on form than function.
00:34Before though we get a closer look at the DC Direct Collector Vinyl Wave 1 of Batman, Swamp Thing and of course Bane.
00:40We'll take the tape measure and we'll see how tall the figures stand.
00:42I did actually order all three of these from Entertainment Earth.
00:45Now you can either order them as the entire set of Wave 1 for $45 or $44.99.
00:50Or you can also buy them individually for $14.99 or about $15.
00:55Let's take the tape measure and see how tall each of these individually stand.
00:58A Batman, surprisingly enough, is going to be about almost the same size.
01:01He's actually taller than Bane. He's a little bit shorter than Swamp Thing.
01:03Based on that he's actually about four and three quarters of an inch in height or roughly about 11 and a half centimeters tall.
01:10Swamp Thing, because he's got the big back of his torso, is going to be a little bit higher but not really by much though.
01:16He's actually, I would almost even say like he's not quite five inches.
01:19He's like four and maybe four and three quarters.
01:21He's certainly a lot taller than Batman and that works out again about 12 inches and 12 centimeters in height.
01:26Bane is probably the shortest of the three, which again seems a little perplexing to me.
01:30He's actually only standing at four inches in height or about 10 centimeters tall.
01:34I know it's fun and good to rhyme off numbers, but how do they actually scale with some of the other offerings from Todd and his team?
01:39Well, let's bring in some examples of just some random stuff going on here.
01:42So here's what the figures look like with some of the Pacific Rim line that we got from Todd and his team before.
01:46Here's what they look like with Flava Flav, a bit of a strange comparisons there.
01:50Here's also what they look like with a 66 Batman series Joker man.
01:54And here's also what they look like with a standard DC multiverse release.
01:58I've decided to do one video for all three of the first wave, just because again, like the figures don't have any possibility.
02:03There's not a whole lot I'd be able to talk about with them in individual videos.
02:07We're going to start with probably my least favorite of the set of three and that of course is Batman.
02:11Now with the styles of these, they're also very clearly abnormally large Batman.
02:16I mean, I know he's generally buff in the comics, but never probably to the state that we're seeing right now.
02:20The style of all of these, and maybe Batman is a little less the example of that, kind of really reminds me of Sam Keith's Max.
02:26More so I feel to Swamp Thing and especially more so I feel to Bane.
02:30Batman again, like his head sculpt is okay.
02:33I mean, like again, he's a little pale down below here.
02:35I almost even feel like looking at the face for Batman, that the face is maybe a little too pale and maybe he missed a little bit of the paint.
02:41I'm not sure really why they chose to make his face so light like this.
02:44Well, really, it seems like all the rest of his body has been colored here.
02:47I like the grays that they've gone with. The blues look nice too.
02:50And on the back, he does have himself a plastic cape.
02:52These seem also a lot smaller than what I expected them to be.
02:56I mean, I think when we first got glimpses of these, these figures were a lot bigger than what we're actually getting.
03:01But again, for a $15 little statue piece, it's not bad.
03:05Again, though, Batman, if I probably didn't, if I wasn't really reviewing these,
03:08I think I probably would have only really picked up Swamp Thing and probably Bane would have been the first,
03:13right away, would have been the first one I would have grabbed.
03:15Batman, I think, probably would have been left behind, honestly.
03:17You know, again, the head sculpt is okay. He's got certainly a lot of well-sculpted muscles here.
03:21The emblem looks good there on the front of his chest.
03:23Utility belt, everything, like, from a color standpoint, looks good.
03:27But then they've also gone in there and dingied them up.
03:30There's a lot of dirt settled on the surface here of the plastic.
03:33Batman looks like he's really dirty and grimy.
03:35In fact, funny enough, though, the only part that's actually not dirty on him is the bottom of his cape,
03:39which you would think, though, like if he's dragging himself around,
03:42that this probably would be the dirtiest parts of his costume.
03:45The plastic, by the way, though, there's a little bit more of a rigidness to the plastic that they've used for the cape.
03:50Nothing that really you'd be able to do when it comes to bending the cape around.
03:53And for that matter, really, you can't move anything really on the figures either.
03:56There's no head articulation. There's nothing you can do, really, for the shoulders.
04:00Nothing in the waist, nothing at all that you can do.
04:03They do actually feel also a lot lighter.
04:05So not only did I feel like they were going to be a lot bigger,
04:07but I also felt that they would also be more heavier, too.
04:10I mean, they have masks to them, but the mask doesn't translate necessarily to weight.
04:14Batman, again, is probably my least favorite of this.
04:17If anything, I probably will just end up...
04:19I don't know if I would give the Batman away and maybe just keep the other two.
04:22Bane is definitely for me. That's a keeper for sure.
04:25On to Swamp Thing.
04:27Now, again, to compare him along with Batman, I mean, Swamp Thing's a lot bigger,
04:30but I feel like he probably should have been even bigger, too.
04:32Maybe even for Todd's mods, what they probably should have even focused their efforts more for
04:37is doing the bigger figures, like Doomsday and Darkseid,
04:41all the characters that are generally known in comics anyways for being big and mass.
04:45I don't think Batman would have been one I would have picked right away,
04:48but again, we always have to pick a Batman when it comes to every figure line and every figure wave.
04:53Swamp Thing looks good, though. I do like the coloring that they've given his face.
04:56I mean, he's sculpted mostly here all in green,
04:58but it still gives him plenty of opportunity to go in there with lighter colors.
05:01So you've got some nice little leaves colored in a more fluorescent green.
05:04You've got some browns added in there as well.
05:06I do also like that they've gone in there and darkened the areas around his eyes and around his mouth.
05:10It's a good-looking Swamp Thing.
05:12One real issue with Swamp Thing, though, is the way they've sculpted his feet.
05:16Now, again, keeping in mind you can't do anything with these figures. There's no poseability.
05:19There's nothing you can do when it comes to waist rotation.
05:22Don't go into this expecting these figures to be super poseable, because there certainly won't be.
05:27But here's, though, one thing. Oh, and actually, I do also like that they've added...
05:30Is that mushrooms? Be careful when picking mushrooms in the woods.
05:33You don't know... You know, always go with somebody that's a mushroom expert,
05:36because they'll tell you those are the mushrooms you can eat.
05:39Those are the mushrooms, if you're Clint Eastwood, you don't want to be eating that.
05:42What was that movie that was eating the mushrooms? The Beguiled? Is it The Beguiled? Yeah.
05:47Don't mess with a woman's family, and certainly don't be eating unknown mushrooms at the dinner table.
05:51I do also like that they've added some water as well. I know I'm getting sidetracked here.
05:55Here's one issue, though, I had with Swamp Thing.
05:58His foot on one side is flat, so there's no real issues there.
06:02This one foot, though, is arched, which normally you would just expect,
06:06OK, well, he's got a posed foot, that's not so bad.
06:08But I noticed, though, with him, I have to kind of lean him weirdly.
06:12I mean, he seems almost like he wants to lean backwards.
06:15He doesn't quite fully fall, but I feel like he almost wants to commit to the idea that he wants to take a tumble.
06:21I don't feel like his foot is completely flat, and I maybe feel like his foot should have been either more flatter down,
06:28or maybe angled a little bit further back,
06:30because it just seems like while the one foot is doing more of the work of kind of keeping him balanced,
06:34the back of the foot doesn't seem like it's completely leveled.
06:38Swamp Thing's nice, though. I mean, again, if I wasn't really reviewing these,
06:41I probably would have only really picked up Bane and Swamp Thing.
06:44Sorry, Batman.
06:45On to Bane, though.
06:46And Bane really was, I think, actually the first figure that Todd showed off online and in social media.
06:52And Bane really was the one that got me the most interested.
06:54Very much more mass than both the two others that we've already looked at for Todd's mods.
06:59And again, while looking at this, just for me, it screams Sam Keats' work.
07:03Very small on the head for Bane, you can see there.
07:06I like the way they've also gone in there and painted his zipper.
07:08Silver looks good, too, on him as well.
07:10Now, again, he's pretty posed.
07:11I do like he's clenched a fist on one side.
07:14So much so to the point where it almost feels like he's starting to squish his bicep.
07:18I feel like maybe, like, the bicep...
07:20Unless he's got so much muscle, it just starts to carry its way into the front of his torso, too.
07:25But I feel like his bicep probably should have ended here.
07:27I mean, is that even bicep right over here?
07:30Again, when you've got so much muscle that you can't even know where one muscle stops and the next muscle begins,
07:36that's a lot of muscle.
07:37I like that they painted in the straps there as well.
07:40That looks good.
07:41This hand, obviously, this one looks like he wants to grip and strangle Batman or squish him like a grape.
07:46With the size that he's dealing with, too, I think that'd be pretty easy.
07:49He also has some nice gold there on the straps there as well.
07:52And then, of course, if he's going to be pumping venom,
07:54he's got the one tube here that connects from the side of his arm,
07:57runs all the way up the back to the venom tank,
08:00and then it goes also onto the back of his body.
08:02I mean, again, just because this is using a plastic tube, just be careful.
08:05Just be careful.
08:06But, again, overall, that's a well-sculpted Bane.
08:09My only thing I would say, really, for Bane, from a critique standpoint,
08:13I feel like maybe the colors.
08:14He looks a little jaundiced, a little on the more yellowish side.
08:17I would have toned that down a bit, made him a little less yellow,
08:21and maybe made him a little bit more like natural skin tone.
08:24But, yeah, Bane's probably my favorite, though.
08:26I mean, he is my favorite.
08:27Again, very light on all of these sets.
08:29I mean, these are basically just like vinyl figures.
08:31But, yeah, I do like the Wave 1 of these.
08:33Now, the question, though, would be, are we going to be getting ourselves a Wave 2?
08:37I mean, we already know what's circulating around now news-wise for social media
08:40that Todd, I mean, Mattel has now acquired the 2025 DC Multiverse line.
08:45I think that's going to now start in 2026.
08:48McFarland Toys, from what I've at least heard,
08:51is still going to be putting out all the remaining projects that they had worked on for 2025.
08:55And then in 2026, things are then going to be moved over to the Mattel facilities.
09:00I don't know to what, again, extent Todd and his team are going to be still working
09:03when it comes to the DC license or if it's just going to be completely passed over to Mattel.
09:08Based then on that, I don't know if there's going to be a likelihood
09:11that Todd's mods will make their way to a Wave 2.
09:13If there was going to be a Wave 2, let's just say, for the sake of examples,
09:17one figure I certainly would have liked to have seen was a Clayface.
09:20Here I go talking again about my love for Clayface.
09:22Clayface would have worked really well, if I can actually get that out.
09:25Clayface would have worked really well with this size and scale, the buffness of these figures.
09:30I think a Clayface, honestly, would have made a lot more sense
09:33than getting ourselves the Caped Crusader again.
09:35So then maybe not the size I was expecting.
09:37I actually thought that Todd's mods would be at least a half size taller
09:40than what they're actually when you get them out of the box.
09:42When I first actually opened up the box from Entertainment Earth, I'm like,
09:45okay, where's the Todd's mods?
09:46I saw a slightly smaller box.
09:48I opened that up and realized that the entire set of Wave 1 were all inside that one.
09:53It was a very small box, needless to say.
09:55For at least I can justify that $15.99, well $14.99, it worked out to be about $15.
10:00That's not bad at all for vinyl figures.
10:02When you kind of think of Funko Pops and what they usually are asked for,
10:05for these being non-articulated statues that are literally doing
10:09exactly what they're going to be doing moving forward on your shelf,
10:11I don't think $14.99 is all that bad.
10:14Batman, for me, at least, still stands out like a bat's sore thumb.
10:17I don't think he really works well for Todd's mods.
10:20I mean, he's big, he's muscular anyways,
10:22but I feel like this line, if the line does move forward, that is,
10:25should have been dedicated towards over-mass characters.
10:27Characters that had big size to them anyways in the comics.
10:30Darkseid, Doomsday, Clayface right away.
10:33Even characters like Parasite would have been perfect fit for this.
10:36I just don't think that Batman, I know Batman's always like the go-to character,
10:40but I feel like he just doesn't work necessarily for Todd's mods.
10:43Now, speaking though for the future of Todd's mods, it's still unknown.
10:47I mean, really, we know that 2026 Mattel is moving forward
10:50with what they've got planned for DC universe, DC, or their DC license.
10:54Whether they're going to be sharing that license though with Todd and his team,
10:57or they're just going to be moving forward with the license solely.
11:00The likelihood though of us getting a Todd's mods wave two,
11:03it's probably slim unless they already had that planned
11:06and it's going to be still coming out in wave two.
11:08It's going to be still coming out in 2025.
