00:05look at the star ace this the boys starlight one sixth scale collectible
00:09figure
00:25the superheroes in Amazon Prime's the boys are controlled by an evil
00:29corporation that's obsessed with money and power the corrupt soups hide behind
00:33a semblance of civic duty that just barely hides their true motivations the
00:37only bright side in the premier group of the seven is starlight a naive young
00:40girl from Iowa who can produce light energy blasts she quickly realizes that
00:44the seven are corrupt and starts working with the boys to take them down the six
00:48scale figure of starlight features a seamless body and has over 30 points of
00:51articulation the head sculpt features an officially approved authentic likeness
00:55of Aaron Moriarty as starlight with light-up eyes and rooted hair she wears
00:59a detailed costume with cape and accurately styled emblem bracers belt
01:03and boots I wonder if this is a figure that Huey would have I'm gonna spend
01:07less time thinking about that I'm gonna spend more time thanking the folks over
01:10at star ace that kindly provided the sample of the boys starlight one sixth
01:14scale collectible action figure that we could have a look at in this review not
01:17only did they provide starlight but they also provide the deluxe version I'll
01:21show you and kind of break down the basics of what the difference is
01:23between the deluxe version and the collectors edition I can tell you though
01:27that the collectors edition is gonna be selling for $289 US online or if you
01:31want to go the more elaborate route she's gonna be selling then the deluxe
01:34version for $379 so there's about a difference about a hundred dollars or so
01:39for that you'll kind of see in a second what that all includes let's also though
01:43take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands if to go right to the
01:46very top of her head you're looking at starlight being about ten and three
01:49quarters of an inch translating though that's a centimeters then she's about
01:5327 centimeters tall okay so to the left you've got your collectors edition
01:58accessories here including of course the display stand to your right though are
02:02all the deluxe offerings which you can see it has a much larger display stand
02:06to kind of going over here first let's look first at the instruction booklet
02:10that comes included with the character now on one side of the pamphlet sheet
02:13shows you that you can attach the clip onto her arms because she also has these
02:17electricity effects I'll show you I'll show you in a second on the flip end of
02:21it though it also shows you how to install and swap out her gloves now the
02:25gloves though do require batteries and unfortunately at the time of prepping
02:28this review I thought I had the right batteries but knowing realizing later I
02:32needed CR 927 batteries I didn't have those I will show you at least kind of
02:37how things all work the only thing that's gonna be unfortunately left off
02:40for this review is the fact that her gloves will light up that's the only
02:44thing we're unfortunately not gonna be able to cover off here so let's put the
02:47instruction booklet here to the side like I said though on this side will be
02:51of course all the deluxe offerings so the figure first of all does come
02:54included with a regular oval shape display stand it does have starlight
02:57along the top here now they are releasing other figures also as well
03:01that we're gonna be looking at in upcoming reviews I kind of wish that
03:04they could have included maybe the boys on the top and starlight on the front
03:07but saying that though I mean the way that they how elaborate starlights font
03:11is there'd be no way of course they'd have to be able to squeeze that down
03:15here so yeah maybe that makes more sense that they have along the top of the base
03:18the base does match nicely the colors of both the white and the yellow of course
03:22in her outfit here and just a standard waist clip to so well a crate the cradle
03:26clip so you can take your figure then and just basically perched on top of
03:29that now that's that route obviously there's a whole lot more going on over
03:33here as well we're gonna move that off to the side the figure does also come
03:37includes some swappable hands a truth to be told though I actually did swap out
03:41some of the hands already in preparation of this review she does also
03:44have these little pointing hands so let's just go ahead and for a second
03:47here remove these hands she has a seamless body and also the way that they
03:52design this too there's basically a post system it runs straight through this and
03:56on the end of it is a little nub here that's gonna attach on to the ends of
03:59the hands that makes sense so there's a little hole right here and there's like
04:02a little metal post on the ends of the forearms so if we had to remove that for
04:06example we'll just put the figure down here back for a second kind of want to
04:09really just want to make sure I cover off all the basis she has a pair of
04:13relaxed hands nice enough looking sculpted hands she also has again like
04:17those gestured pointing hands really ideally suitable or suitable for all the
04:22electricity effects it comes with a couple of those and then she also has
04:25some gripping hands although she doesn't really have any other accessories other
04:29than just all the mentioned already electricity pieces so I'm not really
04:33sure necessarily what these hands could be held for unless maybe you could took
04:37the electricity and sort of feed them in their hands but clearly doesn't seem
04:40like it belongs there I guess you can kind of have her hold it in that way but
04:43it doesn't seem so intentionally like it was supposed to be meant for that again
04:48if you do want to change out the hands we've already kind of established that
04:51already but popping the hands back in place the metal post you're basically
04:55just gonna take the whole of that just fit the new hands on there do it on the
04:59one side then do it of course on the other side here as well for at least the
05:04hand options these would be the best hands at least that I'm gonna be
05:07displaying her with unless you choose to maybe give her the gloves and again the
05:10gloves is a completely completely different thing altogether she does also
05:13come in clear with these electricity effects now with the way that she's
05:17designed right now there's no real way to attach it onto her body yet she does
05:21also though come include these C clamp pieces there of clear plastic so you
05:26will want to be kind of treading cautiously to make sure that these
05:28don't potentially break the idea though in mind is if you look at the
05:32electricity there is a hole and it's really hard to make it out you see that
05:37right there it's right on the end you take the hole and you just obviously
05:41feed it onto the peg tread cautiously doing this though just with the nature
05:46of this being clear plastic that could buckle that could snap that could break
05:50but it seems to hold the job pretty well now you plug that basically in place you
05:54can either choose to do that on the clip first before then you put it onto the
05:57figure you can also go as well the route of putting this onto the figure first so
06:02it basically what it is is it just clips around her bicep you can have it
06:06further up to the thing about it though is if you have it really high up there
06:09the length of the electricity only goes so far I'd like to have it kind of
06:13closer more to her hand so once this is now clipped in place find the hole which
06:18again is like almost next to impossible find especially being that it's clear
06:21yellow plastic like this and then just take the hole and fit it onto the peg
06:25don't push it so much kind of just kind of wiggle it back and forth and then you
06:29clip that piece on place but I think kind of in now hindsight probably would
06:33have belonged better on the other side just because the way it's curved and
06:36then take this piece and basically just do the exact same thing on this side
06:39clip it in place I'm gonna actually remove this just because the way it's
06:43curved I think it makes better sense to have it on this side so again we're just
06:47gonna find the hole which is right up there so small it's almost next to
06:53impossible to find it and just take that plug it onto the peg just like that that
06:59makes a little bit better sense I think to have it on that side and then you're
07:02gonna find the hole we're not gonna eat up don't worry we're not gonna eat up
07:05the entire review just trying to put on electricity pieces on her but again
07:09that's just gonna clip on in place so essentially you get something that looks
07:12like that using the clear plastic yeah is a little more problematic because
07:16there's always the risk that the plastic may crack but at least though it gives
07:19you a seamless look in the sense that it blends in better to her outfit as opposed
07:23to it being a very obvious opaque plastic instead that's just only though
07:28the deluxe offerings so again like you get yourself the display stand you get
07:32yourself then for swappable hands not of course including the ones on the ends
07:35reforms you get the C clamp pieces for her arms and of course she's gonna come
07:39included with the effect pieces on the sides if let's just say though you want
07:44to go the route of the deluxe version so let's go ahead and just kind of remove
07:47everything off here being that these again are very small I'm gonna put them
07:52off to the side at least in a place where I know they're gonna be I'm not
07:54gonna lose them hopefully so I'm gonna move her over off to the side here then
07:59this is basically all the stuff that you're gonna get for the deluxe version
08:02now before we kind of get down to all the additional like because she has new
08:05glove pieces too this is where the battery compartment would then hold the
08:09battery I still thought I had the batteries unfortunately though I didn't
08:12the batteries basically would then go into this and then you have yourself a
08:15magnet piece a magnet would touch to the end of the glove and then basically the
08:19star would light up that's the only thing it really really does she does
08:23also have effect pieces that are gonna go wrapping around her glove too before
08:26we do all that though I did though I want to show you also the display stand
08:29that she has so this is again only exclusive though to the deluxe version
08:33I'm holding this with both hands just because the display base is heavy it
08:39does feel like it's I don't want to say it's like resin but it certainly does
08:42have a weight it does not feel like plastic though still has star light
08:46though across the top but what's now given though is that you have an
08:49adjustable neck piece you just the adjustable neck basically just screws in
08:54place so it goes right in the middle here and you can see that there's the
08:58threads on the end of this and then that basically that just screws in place I
09:03probably should have been talking while I was doing that that basically just
09:09screws in place and then if you look at the back of the figure I think whether
09:13you are ordering either deluxe version or the the regular collectors edition I
09:17believe the clip is gonna probably be placed in the exact same spot I don't
09:21think that they're gonna leave this off necessarily if you downgrade to the
09:24standard release of the figure this little clip right here basically then
09:27just fits onto the end of that neck so you take your figure you slide her down
09:32and again you want to just make sure that she's latching then onto the clip
09:36and now you got yourself starlight floating I think you obviously do a much
09:39better job of what I'm doing right now but just to show you though that it does
09:42levitate and then you can just I manipulate the legs the knees and
09:46obviously the arms but wait there's more on the ends of these you probably
09:50have already noticed as well that there's these clear posts now the post
09:54have adjustability on the bottom and on the top and these plug into there's two
09:59holes in the front there's two holes in the back the instructions really do tell
10:02you though that you want to have like the smaller posts on the front and then
10:05the longer ones on the back and how then they serve a purpose is that you get all
10:10these again additional effect pieces they all seem to vary from one to one to
10:15the other they don't look like they're identical at all maybe some of them are
10:18a little bit closer and like comparisons like if you look at this one and you
10:21look at this one yeah maybe they are identical so you get two of those and
10:25then you get you get basically like two of these and they work the same way
10:29although the holes a lot easier to spot so there's a hole right there you see
10:33that right there right there and then these just clamp on to the ends super
10:37super simple now the way that they're sort of designed is see how they kind of
10:41thread out like fingerlings this piece right here I prefer to have it closer to
10:46the inside of the display base so that's just gonna plug in place like that and
10:51again you'll do you take this piece just because again like if you have it this
10:55way this doesn't look like it really jets out you really want to make these
10:58things look like roots and that's gonna plug on to the end just just like that
11:04and basically you would just then rinse and repeat the steps and you would have
11:08these on the back you can put these on the front it entirely up to you the way
11:11that you want to put these so that's the adjustable neck stand setup again this
11:16is only solely for the collectors edition so you don't have the chance to
11:19get the collectors edition or really just you don't have the space to
11:22accommodate all those extra things I mean you can easily then just go with
11:26the collectors figure which then is $100 less it's also going to come just with a
11:30regular overshoot display stand some swappable hands and already some
11:33electricity effects so you're still going to be able to display the figure
11:36that way as well and now just moving the two display bases out of the way we
11:39can also focus on the one other thing that comes in clear with the deluxe
11:42release of her she does have now these gold gloves now these would then swap
11:46out with the gauntlets that she has on her forearms obviously it's gonna be
11:49swapping out her hands as well the battery if you had them would slide then
11:53into here and then based going back to the magnet the magnet would just touch
11:57the end of the gloves and these would illuminate you'd have the star here lit
12:00up in in like a yellow color which is nice I mean it's a nice touch and one
12:04thing too is that you don't have to worry about disassembling the figure to
12:07access the battery compartment making things work with magnets makes things so
12:11much easier if you wanted to swap these hands out one thing you may want to
12:15consider first is that she does also have these spiraling energy effects
12:18which are super cool and I might say also a little super complicated they
12:23consist of two parts because obviously the way that they work right now there's
12:26no way they'd be able to fit over her existing gloves it's basically how it
12:30works is that it detaches in two pieces and then you just unspiral it just like
12:36that this top piece has to essentially go over the battery compartment like
12:40that I find though it's a lot easier to put the other alternate piece in first
12:45fit her glove around so basically just do it as if like you're only using just
12:49this piece alone fit it around and then when you put it on make sure that see
12:53how one side you've got a magnet on one on the other side you've got yourself a
12:57clip you really want to make sure that the magnets facing upward take them the
13:01other piece and then line everything up so when you're putting it down for
13:05example you want to make sure like magnet is gonna match the magnet so
13:09magnets gonna basically go over here and then you want to make sure that this
13:12flat piece is gonna go on top of the battery compartment I really hope that
13:17made a whole lot of sense because saying that obviously it gets a little confusing
13:20but basically just take this piece wrap it around her forearm like that make
13:25sure of course it gets around all the way and then just line everything up 10
13:29then to the peg because there again there's that peg there's the slot and if
13:33you just kind of wrap everything around plug this successfully in place and now
13:38you've got the energy effect wrapped around her glove and you get two of
13:40these so basically you just you know do these same steps again and then what's
13:44then required on your part is you have to remove the hand you have to remove
13:47the gauntlet so just take the hand want to make sure of course you got it the
13:51thumb facing the right way take the hand off like that and then slide this
13:57entire piece off just like that take the glove and again this is so much easier
14:01when you do it on the glove first and then slide it onto the form because then
14:04you're not having the stress as much that's gonna plug in place and now
14:08she's got not only a gold glove but she also has the option of this being lit up
14:12if again you already prepped this in advance and you bought yourself the
14:15proper batteries which unfortunately I didn't looks good I like the look of
14:19that this also again changes her look too because now they incorporate the
14:23gold gloves she kind of like the gold gloves but they only give you the flat
14:26hand option when it comes to hers so I guess you could also really then go back
14:30to the clips put the clip in place but that may add just so much unnecessary
14:34additional baggage so look at the figure on her shelf let's go ahead and remove
14:37this we'll put the gauntlet back the way that we found it and just pop the hand
14:42back in place now one thing though with starlight and
14:47their boys figures as a whole they seem to be using seamless bodies personal
14:52preference for me at least I don't mind having seams showing on my figures
14:56seamless look is fine and good I'm only speaking though from my own personal
15:00experience of having seamless bodies I was it doesn't bother me at all that it
15:04loses some of the realism if you start to see the visible joints stories though
15:07however has chosen though to give these guys seamless bodies which again does
15:11now give her a more rubbery skin over basically overlaying a frame a skeletal
15:15frame underneath if you like that look of more realism the thing about the boys
15:21figures is at least they're offering that with the seamless bodies now for
15:24the head sculpt debatable by some some could say that doesn't actually look at
15:28all like the actress now you know I look at this and I will say like in hand the
15:33figure does look a lot better than it did online I will say that like certain
15:37angles it does look a fair bit like her actually I mean to be completely fair
15:42though I think maybe one thing it's kind of throwing me off a little bit is the
15:45size of her eyes have the eyes maybe just been a little bit bigger I think
15:49more of the realism and more looking like Erin Moriarty would have looked a
15:52lot better she does have real rooted hair which is also nice to see as well
15:56now I think in most of the images that we saw she had more the curl on the
16:00front of her hair and then all the kind of the rest of it on the back I like
16:03generally to bring the hair around myself now I'm just doing this rushed
16:07job right now but I mean you can easily go in there with a little bit of water
16:10you know fix that up a little bit and also add a little bit of hairspray just
16:13to correct the hair the way that you want I don't think it again like I don't
16:17think it's a bad head sculpt I can understand though why people said it
16:20doesn't look like the actress because I think like online images didn't do the
16:25figure as much justice as maybe when you see in hand the the rest of her outfit
16:29looks at generally quite good to fairly accurate to the way that she looks in
16:32the series she got the starlight symbol there are the three stars on the front
16:35of her chest this all now being of course a white fabric be very careful of
16:39course when handling this that you're gonna have obviously clean hands just
16:43have also if we look around the back of the figure she does have her traditional
16:46cape the cape what's clever about it though is if you look real closely you
16:50can actually see it's tiny little stars I actually thought for a second it would
16:54look more like lace but they they did print in there the little gold stars of
16:58course it's also trimmed in yellow here as well like when I look though at the
17:02cape I was thinking myself did it really need to have a wire like had they run a
17:05wire for example on the sides of the cape then you could have actually
17:08manipulated just a little bit more maybe I guess it's not so much of a bad idea
17:12that they made the cape more relaxed material because then it just has a
17:15natural drape to it maybe it doesn't necessarily need the wireframe at all
17:19but overall like it's a it's not a bad figure it's not bad at all the tailoring
17:24is one thing that I always really want to commend stories for doing I've now
17:27collected stories figures over like several years whether it be the Harry
17:30Potter whether it be like the Pulp Fiction whether it be like Kill Bill
17:33they've done generally a nice job really when it comes to material the outer
17:37material as you can see is a more thicker variety but it does also have
17:40again like the placements of the stars if you look that up though she has also
17:44the lacing that has the stars and then she also has just a regular skirting
17:48underneath that it's a lot of layers a lot of thought went into this again like
17:52it does have more of a rubbery body that may appeal to some it may turn off
17:56others if you really do again like the look of the seamless body that's not bad
17:59I mean the material though over time bending the knee and having it permanently
18:04bent like this I can't ensure that over time that this may not start to split
18:07for me at least I'm only gonna have these figures displayed in museum poses
18:11anyways and really again like to say that to a lot of the conditions have to
18:15be considered really when you are displaying your figures if you have high
18:18humidity for example in your house you may be more prone to things like this
18:21starting to split I've had seamless body figures for a while in my collections
18:25and they still have remained okay so I can't just say like you're gonna get
18:29issues over time because the figures that I have had over time have given me
18:33no issues whatsoever so the figures articulation going back though to
18:36starlight here the head's gonna be on a ball joint but the way that the ball
18:39joint works is essentially the same way as the hands work it basically is
18:43plugging on to a peg joint a metal peg joint the head does bend down fairly
18:47free you can also move the head up you can also rock it back and forth as well
18:51and not only is it gonna allow a hinge right here with the ball joint but also
18:55at the base of the neck too there seems to be also a secondary post hitting of
18:58course under that seamless skin so it moves up and down freely that way you
19:02can rock it back and forth to the upper torso does seem though to have a crunch
19:06again even though it does have a seamless body over top of it the arms so
19:10comfortably can come out at 90 degrees so you got your T pose happening the
19:13arm can move forward no problems there can also move back she does have I want
19:18to only say really just a single hinge in the elbow it's a possibility that she
19:22may have more than one but with the way that it's only bending I think she only
19:25has one hinge joint in her elbow hands rotate though all the way around you can
19:29hinge them back and forth no issues there you can split her legs and you can
19:33split them pretty far too you take them and move moving forward you can move
19:38them back I wouldn't really want to say that there's a swivel at the top of the
19:41thigh because again like I'm to swivel this I'm only essentially swiveling the
19:45skin she does have what seems again only to be a single hinge in the knee no
19:50articulation really I mean if you look at it in the in the sense that the boot
19:53is basically going over top of her leg then look then at that at basically being
19:57an option to swivel the feet back and forth the the boots are all basically
20:01encased in hard plastic so you're unfortunately gonna lose a lot of the
20:04possibility in the ankles she's not gonna have that at all but I think she
20:08has enough of the possibility in every other place that yeah you can still get
20:11her in some decent poses the question though still lies whether you would want
20:15to go the route of the collectors edition or the deluxe edition the deluxe
20:18edition granted again is gonna have now the additional gloves so if you like the
20:22gold gloves and providing of course you have the proper batteries for that you
20:25can also illuminate these we'll say again like that one thing I really like
20:29that stories just did decide to do instead of having to worry about having
20:32like a switch right here could you imagine like for example if we took the
20:35glove that's wrapped around by the energy effect had they put say a switch
20:39in here think of how much would have been involved in your part to have to
20:42undo all of this take the glove off switch it on put everything back on and
20:47fit it back in place incorporating the concept of a magnet is so so clever
20:52because again like all you really need from an activation standpoint is just
20:55simply touching the palm now again she only has just the flat the flat hands
20:59flat palms in the gold gloves if you want to have her displayed that way I
21:02would certainly probably recommend having her the energy effects wrapped
21:05around the glove just because without that in place it does seem a little
21:09strange and you're always gonna really have to have her pose with the arms
21:11extended out this way having her hands flat like this probably doesn't make
21:15much sense just to have her arms relaxed again when it comes to though the
21:19offerings you get the collectors edition that's gonna come included with the oval
21:22shape display stand just a regular oval shape stand which is fine and good you
21:26can again gonna get those waist those wrist clips those arm bicep clips I
21:30should say that's also gonna have the means to attach the energy effects so
21:33there's that option but again like if you have the space you have this
21:36certainly the budget you can always consider the idea of going as well the
21:39deluxe routes which is again $100 more but it's gonna give you the much bigger
21:43display base it's gonna have the adjustable post on either side and it's
21:46also gonna come include the gold gloves the decision of which one you'd like to
21:49have in your collection is entirely obviously up to you seeing as I did
21:53start the review with the collectors edition of starlight being predominantly
21:56featured I figured then it would be fitting to showcase the figure in the
21:59deluxe version as we wrap up this review the only thing that does get changed
22:02obviously because the starlight is gonna be the exact same with the two releases
22:05is more just the things that attach onto her body like the gold gloves the energy
22:09effects that wrap around those and then again more importantly is this more
22:12elaborate heavier display base now let's just say you're the kind of collector
22:16that just doesn't have that kind of space available I can relate I already
22:20have enough of my six scale figures out on display that to consider the idea of
22:24using a big display base like this may not necessarily work for my collection
22:27but at least though one thing I like that stories did is that they offer up
22:31starlight with two different versions if your budget just isn't that isn't the
22:35way that you'd be able to pick up a figure this more expensive because again
22:37like this figure is gonna be $100 more than the collectors edition or again you
22:40just don't have the space consider then the idea of scaling back a bit and get
22:45the collectors edition instead the difference though between the two
22:47prices the collectors edition is again gonna be selling for $289 in most of the
22:52online sites I've looked at whereas then the collectors edition getting now the
22:55display base getting now the gold gloves is gonna then be selling for $379 so
23:00it's a little less than about $100 difference a big thank you again to the
