00:00A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday and causing buildings to sway in
00:06Bangkok, the capital of neighboring Thailand.
00:11Macron announced a plan to send forces from several European countries to Ukraine in the
00:15event of a peace treaty with Russia.
00:20U.S. official cars were seen departing Greenland's capital Nuuk after U.S. Vice President J.D.
00:25Vance and his wife Usha downscaled their planned Friday visit amid criticism.
00:30At least five people were critically injured in a stabbing attack in central Amsterdam.
00:35Police say the suspect has been apprehended and investigations are ongoing.
00:40A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological
00:46Survey.
00:47The shallow quake, with a depth of 10 kilometers, had its epicenter near Sagaing, close to Mandalay.
00:52A second quake measuring 6.4 followed 12 minutes later.
00:56In neighboring Thailand, buildings swayed in Bangkok were a high-rise under construction
01:01collapse with possible casualties yet unknown.
01:04The tremor was strong enough to send water sloshing out of rooftop pools while videos
01:09showed crowds gathering in streets of the city, home to over 17 million people.
01:14No immediate casualties were reported in Myanmar.
01:25It's a much-awaited announcement that's been in the works for weeks now.
01:30French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled the outline for a reassurance force from several
01:35countries that would intervene in Ukraine in case of a peace treaty with Russia.
01:41But there's still quite a lot of uncertainty surrounding this announcement.
01:46First of all, we don't know which countries are willing to participate and how much they
01:50are willing to give.
01:52The French president did admit that the decision was not a unanimous one.
01:57We also don't know what sort of equipment will be used and exactly how many troops will
02:03be sent.
02:05And another important factor is that Macron insisted that these troops will not be there
02:11for peacekeeping purposes, but rather to provide the Ukrainian army with long-term
02:17support and reassurance.
02:20So in that case, what happens in case of a new Russian attack?
02:25One thing is clear, is that the Kremlin has repeatedly said that any sort of intervention
02:31would lead to a direct conflict.
02:38At least five people were critically injured in a stabbing attack in central Amsterdam.
02:44The incident happened near Dam Square in the southern part of the Dutch capital.
02:49The suspect behind the attack has been apprehended by police.
02:54This afternoon there are multiple people stabbed by one person.
02:59They're wounded and they're brought to the hospital.
03:03The suspect in this has been arrested and also wounded.
03:07At this moment we're investigating what happened.
03:10Eyewitnesses say the incident was horrifying.
03:36Local media say the attack interrupted a city council meeting involving Amsterdam's mayor.
03:50Police say it's not yet clear what the motives behind the attack were.
03:54Authorities are urging people who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with
03:58any evidence to assist in the investigation.
04:04NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned Russia that the alliance would always stand
04:09by Poland or any other member, saying its reaction to an attack would be devastating.
04:15Rutte gave the warning on Wednesday during a visit to Warsaw, the Polish capital.
04:20If anyone were to miscalculate and think they can get away with an attack on Poland or on
04:29any other ally, they will be met with the full force of this fierce alliance.
04:36Our reaction will be devastating.
04:38This has to be very clear to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and anyone else who wants to attack us.
04:46Rutte, as in the past, warned that Russia could be capable of launching an attack
04:51again on European soil by the end of the decade.
04:54For his part, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk thanked the NATO Secretary General for
04:59his support and urged preparations for different scenarios of US negotiations with Russia and Ukraine.
05:25NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that Poland has been a valued ally for 26 years
05:31and is an example for other member states, with a 4.7% defense capability.
05:39During his visit to Warsaw, Mark Rutte also met with President Andrzej Duda and the heads
05:45of the Defense Resorts and Foreign Affairs.
05:48He also gave a lecture at the Warsaw School of Commerce.
05:52From Warsaw, Aleksandra Gałkareczko, Euronews, Poland.
05:59Scenes of a bomb hitting Sana'a with smoke rising as residents stayed awake during Ramadan's
06:04final days. Suspected US airstrikes have hit multiple sites across Yemen controlled by
06:09Houthi rebels early on Friday. The intensity of the strikes appeared greater than in previous
06:14days in the campaign that began on March 15. While the extent of damage and casualties
06:20remains unclear, initial Houthi reports claim at least seven people were injured.
06:24Other targets included the Sana'a International Airport, which is used for both civilian and
06:28military purposes, the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, and areas in Al-Jawaf, Amran and
06:34Marib. The Houthis say the strikes have killed at least 57 people since the campaign began,
06:39following their threats to resume targeting ships linked to Israel over Gaza 8 blockades.
06:45Earlier this year, they attacked over 100 merchant vessels, sinking two, while also
06:49targeting US warships without success. The strikes come a few days after it was revealed
06:55a journalist was inadvertently added into a group chat among US national security officials
07:00as they coordinated plans to strike Houthi targets earlier this month.
07:08US official cars were seen departing Greenland's capital Nuuk on Thursday after US Vice President
07:14J.D. Vance and his wife Usha downscaled their planned visit. The couple were scheduled to tour
07:20the capital as well as visit the pitific space base in the northwest. But after a public outcry
07:26from Greenlandic and Danish lawmakers, who slammed the trip as aggressive,
07:30the itinerary was reduced to just the base.
07:44US President Donald Trump has for some time routinely expressed his desire to control the
08:10self-governing region of Denmark. He has recently renewed his interest in doing so,
08:15adding that he will achieve his goal, quote, one way or the other.
08:20Russian President Vladimir Putin is not surprised with Trump's persistence.
08:24The Russian leader noted that Washington first set its eyes on the arctic island
08:28in the 19th century, but added that the current administration has serious plans.
08:40In a further show of defiance to US threats,
09:03Greenland formed a new broad coalition government on the eve of the Vance's visit.
09:08The new unity government brings together four of the five elected parties in parliament
09:13and aims to send one strong message. Greenland is for its people.
09:23The European Commission is preparing its response after the US rolled out new tariffs on car
09:29imports from Europe. The latest measures will factor in the car tariffs announced Wednesday
09:35night, as well as reciprocal tariffs expected next week. It is unclear whether these tariffs
09:41will affect European countries individually or the EU as a bloc. The Commission is set to consult
09:48member states on a list of American products that have been subject to suspended tariffs since the
09:54first Trump administration. A second list is now also reportedly under consideration as Brussels
10:01weighs its options. Soaring trade tensions threaten European automakers already struggling
10:07with tepid economic growth and rising competition from China. I think it goes too far to say that
10:13this will be existential right away, but it's impacting definitely a lot and it comes at a
10:21moment where there is already a lot of pressure, competition also from other corners in the world
10:28and a time at a time where we need to manage a huge transformation, a green decarbonization
10:34transformation, a digital transformation. The stakes are enormous for European automakers
10:42and their vast network of suppliers, as well as the entire European economy. The heavy burden
10:49could punish consumers and companies alike on both sides of the Atlantic.
10:59And the EU official told Euronews that once Washington announces its reciprocal tariffs next
11:19week, the bloc may need to respond with further measures. This could potentially impact US
11:24services in Europe and would mark a significant escalation in the brewing trade war.
