00:25to continue peacefully protesting the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
00:32Israel's defense minister ordered the military to advance deeper into Gaza, vowing to hold
00:37more land until Hamas releases its remaining hostages.
00:42After retaking part of a corridor dividing Gaza's north from south, Israeli troops moved
00:47towards the northern town of Beyslahiya and the southern border city of Rafah.
00:53The military said it had resumed enforcing a blockade on northern Gaza, including Gaza
00:59City.
01:00Nearly 600 Palestinians have been killed since the truce between Israel and Hamas was shattered
01:06on Tuesday.
01:09Hamas is still holding 59 hostages, though at least 35 are believed to be dead.
01:16The militant group says it will only release the remaining hostages in exchange for a lasting
01:21ceasefire and a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza.
01:31Thousands of protesters flooded a popular square in the Slovak capital to voice their
01:35opposition to Prime Minister Robert Fico and his pro-Russian policies.
01:39Over the last three months, tens of thousands of people have rallied every second week in
01:44Bratislava and other cities demanding his resignation.
01:48This began in late December after the Slovak premier made a rare visit to Moscow by an
01:52EU leader to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
01:57Fico is one of only three EU leaders to make the trip since Russia launched its full-scale
02:02invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
02:06Since his return to power in 2023, he's on numerous occasions floated the idea of pulling
02:11the country out of the European Union and NATO, favoring closer relations with the Kremlin.
02:17Fico, who survived an assassination attempt in May 2024, has been undergrowing domestic
02:22pressure for his opinions which differ radically from the European mainstream.
02:27He's publicly defended Putin's motives for invading Ukraine and has cut all financial
02:31and military support to Kiev, further distancing the country from the EU and angering Slovaks.
02:40The leader of Turkey's main opposition, the Republican People's Party, CHP, has renewed
02:45calls for supporters to take to the streets to peacefully protest the arrest of Istanbul
02:49mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
02:51Imamoglu was arrested in a dawn raid of his residence on Wednesday over alleged corruption
02:56and links to terror groups.
02:58Many view the arrest as a politically driven attempt to remove a popular opposition figure
03:02and key challenger to President Erdogan in the next presidential race set for 2028.
03:08Erdogan denies any involvement in the legal probe, insisting that Turkish courts operate
03:13freely and independently.
03:15Since his arrest, thousands of people have gathered at Istanbul's city hall, the designated
03:19office of the mayor, calling for his release.
03:23Clashes have erupted between protesters and police in Istanbul and also in the capital
03:27Ankara.
03:28A five-day ban on protests was instated in Ankara after protesters clashed with police
03:33on a university campus, where tear gas and water cannons were deployed to disperse the
03:37crowds.
03:38But despite this, CHP leader Özgür Özel is urging people to exercise their constitutional
03:44right and continue participating in peaceful demonstrations.
04:14More than 1,300 flights were cancelled and around 200,000 people were left stranded on
04:21Friday.
