A damp start for southern England and the Midlands, with rain clearing from the far southeast by lunchtime. Brighter skies following for all areas, with frequent showers across northern and western areas in particular. Showers merging into longer spells of rain at times for western Scotland, and some producing thunder and hail and falling as snow over the high ground of Scotland. Feeling cooler, particularly in a gusty wind and where we have frequent showers. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 28/03/2025. 00:00Hi there. High pressure is going to return to the UK on Sunday onwards, but for the time
00:06being, the next couple of days we're into a more changeable spell of weather. That doesn't
00:11mean it's going to rain all the time, although it is a damp start to the day for the Midlands
00:15into southern England, the rain persisting until lunchtime for the south-east corner.
00:20Brighter skies do follow, albeit with a fresher feel with those winds coming from the north-west
00:25and containing frequent showers, particularly for northern and western parts of the country.
00:29More especially, western Scotland will see longer spells of rain at times, and some thunder,
00:34hail, hill snow as well because it's going to be a colder airflow. But in between the
00:39showers, still scope for some sunny spells, albeit with that cooler feel to things, 13-14
00:45Celsius in the south, 8 or 9 further north and feeling even colder than that in the gusty
00:51wind and where we've got those lively showers moving through. Nevertheless, the showers
00:55in many places continue into the evening, but eventually they're going to peter out
00:59across much of England and Wales, southern Scotland, Northern Ireland as well, becoming
01:04more restricted to central and northern Scotland as the night progresses. Where we've got clear
01:09skies elsewhere and with the winds easing overnight, it's going to be a chilly start
01:13to Saturday, temperatures dipping close to, if not slightly below freezing, one or two
01:18spots widely 2-4 Celsius across central and eastern parts of the country. But Northern
01:24Ireland, western Scotland, a bit more cloud building here as a result, generally frost-free.
01:30And a cloudier start across Northern Ireland and western Scotland compared with elsewhere
01:34across the UK on Saturday where there will be plenty of sunshine, so although it is going
01:37to be chilly first thing, it will soon warm up. With light winds across the Midlands,
01:41eastern England, and the sunshine continuing into the afternoon, a very pleasant day is
01:45expected. But further west and north, a band of rain moves in. That rain will tend to be
01:51light to moderate across the south-west, as was Wales by the time it arrives early
01:55to mid-afternoon. Heavier for northern England, much of Scotland and northern Ireland, but
02:00it does clear through. Followed again by showers, and those showers will be most frequent across
02:04western Scotland later in the day on Saturday. It's going to feel cool as a result in western
02:10Scotland. And again, cool as that rain turns up across western parts of England and Wales
02:15into the afternoon. Scope for the mid-teens in the south-east given the sunshine persisting
02:20here. But the front, as it clears through, well that's going to weaken and not bring
02:27much rain at all to the south-east as it clears away, and it runs into high pressure which
02:31all the while is building from the south, and that's going to bring more widely settled
02:35weather to many parts of the UK on Sunday and into Monday. So a quiet lamb-like end
02:42to March, and as we begin April, high pressure is going to be sitting very close to the UK.
