00:00Welcome to your afternoon update from the Met Office. Cold wind continues to
00:04blow and continues to blow some wintry showers around us. You know a few
00:08flurries of sleet and snow here and there. Out to the northwest of the UK
00:14there's a chunky area of high pressure and that eventually will be building in
00:18but for the time being we've got low pressure nearby and the winds going
00:21around that high drawing down the air from the Arctic hence why we have the
00:26chill. Plenty of showers packing in across the east and a clump of showers
00:30earlier on brought some sleet and snow across parts of southern England. Still a
00:33few flurries into the early afternoon mostly over the hills at lower levels
00:38chiefly of rain. The showers further north over northern England, southern
00:41Scotland, moving down towards the Midlands and parts of East Anglia. They
00:45will be a wintry mix so hail, sleet and mostly rain but the odd flake of snow
00:51is still over the higher ground. Feels cold in that wind despite some good
00:55spells of sunshine across parts of western Scotland, Northern Ireland, some
00:58breaks in the cloud across southern England and South Wales too. Seeing the
01:02temperatures climb up to nine maybe up to double figures but it's certainly a
01:06lot colder than it was at this time last week and those northerly winds while
01:11bringing a real chill to the east. Six or seven that's what the thermometer will
01:15read but it'll feel closer to freezing when you add on that brisk and chilly
01:19wind. Which will continue to feed some showers in across these central and
01:23eastern parts well into the evening time and then as temperatures fall
01:27wherever we've got these showers it could lead to things turning quite icy
01:30as we go through the night and for first thing on Thursday morning. Further west
01:35many places staying dry and some long clear spells will allow frost across
01:40parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Many towns and cities just about
01:44holding up above freezing but certainly feeling colder still first thing across
01:49the eastern and temperatures dropping down below freezing in many rural spots
01:52which means these showers which will still have that wintry mix, sleet, hail, a
01:57little bit of snow first thing in the morning making for some pretty icy
02:00conditions across parts of southeast Scotland and eastern England. The showers
02:04will develop again through the day some getting into the Midlands perhaps parts
02:07of East Wales, a few more across northern Scotland but a good part of
02:11Scotland, Northern Ireland staying dry tomorrow, most of Wales as well. There'll be some
02:15breaks in the cloud revealing a bit of sunshine. The wind's not quite as strong
02:19tomorrow but still feeding the air down from the north so temperatures will
02:23again be below average and particularly on those North Sea coast when the
02:27showers come along in that breeze it will again feel pretty chilly for the
02:32time of year. Highs of 8, 9 maybe again double figures where we see a little bit
02:36of sunshine. Still a few more of those showers drifting in, some heavy ones
02:39possible, still some hail and some sleet mixed in and then things turn a bit
02:44wetter across the northwest during Thursday evening but that high pressure
02:47will topple in to bring many of us plenty of dry weather into the weekend.
