00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05The air remains cold through the next 24 hours and beyond.
00:09It's coming in from a northerly direction, the source of the air, the Arctic.
00:14We do have some organisation to the showers through this evening and overnight as they move southwards.
00:20Now the strongest winds will always be in the north and the northeast
00:24and these winds will continue to deliver those showers as we head through Wednesday.
00:29And they'll have a wintry element to them as well, particularly over the higher ground.
00:34In between in shelter, some brighter skies, but the air remains cold everywhere.
00:39Now, so through this evening you can see the distribution of those showers.
00:42The western side of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Irish sea coast down towards Wales and the West Country
00:47and a cluster moving in and extending along this eastern side as well.
00:51Notice inland, yes, you can see some snow over the Cairngorms, the Highlands, the Southern Uplands.
00:58Perhaps if they push inland, you could see also some across the northern Pennines.
01:04Temperatures will be sub-zero under clearer skies in shelter, particularly towards the north there.
01:09So expect a frost in places to start the day.
01:12And we're talking significant wind chill through tomorrow.
01:15You can see where the strongest winds are, coastal districts down this eastern side, the North Sea.
01:20It will be windy also for Northern Ireland and the showers frequent along this eastern strip,
01:25but they'll penetrate further inland and develop inland across England and Wales through the day.
01:29Some dry skies for Northern Ireland, western Scotland where you'll see some sunshine.
01:33Further showers though across coastal routes down this eastern strip of Scotland.
01:38Temperatures then around 7, 8 degrees Celsius.
01:41Add on the strength of the wind and the source of the air, it's going to feel colder than that.
01:45So that's the picture through Wednesday afternoon, Wednesday evening.
01:49Those showers continue, especially across coastal districts.
01:53They'll tend to fade away inland.
01:55Temperatures again are dipping quite low.
01:58Where you've seen those showers, the risk of ice into Thursday morning.
02:02A cold start to the day then yet again.
02:04A mix of clouds and sunshine further west where you'll see fewer showers,
02:08but they will push in across much of England as well as central and eastern northern parts of Scotland.
02:13So this is the picture on Friday.
02:15Coastal showers, a few will develop inland,
02:18but notice any shower activity dampening down as we see a ridge of high pressure extending from the west.
02:24So we hang on to some stronger winds on Saturday across the far north with a few showers.
02:28Be a quieter day elsewhere with a lighter breeze.
02:31Before that though, here's some detail for Friday.
02:34A scattering of showers, some sunshine coming through particularly towards the west
02:38and temperatures around 7 or 8 degrees Celsius.
02:41I'll see you later.
