Rain is clearing away towards the east, lingering for a time this afternoon across southeast England. Then plenty of showers, these heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder, sleet and snow possible over high ground across northern England and southern Scotland. Some bright spells in between the showers, with the best of any dry weather across northern Scotland. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 26/02/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00It was a bit of a wet start to the day for many of us, some heavy rain pushing through.
00:05There was even a bit of hail mixed in.
00:07But that whole weather system that brought the wet start today is now clearing away towards
00:12the east.
00:13That being said, lingering for a time this afternoon across parts of East Anglia and
00:17into Kent.
00:18Some blustery winds here in association with the heavier rain eventually does push through.
00:23Behind it though, plenty of showers on offer and some of these showers will be a bit heavy.
00:28There could be a bit more hail and thunder mixed in, even some winteriness, some sleet,
00:32some snow over modest higher ground, particularly of northern England, maybe southern Scotland
00:36as well.
00:37Some bright or sunny spells in between the showers, but not many of these.
00:41Perhaps the greatest chance of some dry, brighter weather will be across parts of northern Scotland
00:46where it actually looks like a mostly fine day.
00:49Temperatures are just about around average for the time of year.
00:52Towards the south getting into double figures.
00:55north.
00:56A few degrees lower than this and worth bearing in mind there will be some brisk winds, especially
00:59near those hefty showers and so those will make it feel a little bit chillier still.
01:04Later on, still some more showers for a time through this evening, but many of them dying
01:08out.
01:09A spell of rain pushing into parts of Wales as it meets the higher ground, the hills,
01:13the mountains likely to bring a bit of snow for a time.
01:16Also some outbreaks of rain pushing into parts of northeast England and towards the Midlands.
01:20Away from the cloudier zone with the rain, there will be some clearer breaks, particularly
01:25across parts of Scotland, perhaps some clear spells for Northern Ireland and later down
01:29the northern western parts of England as well.
01:31And where we see the clear skies, temperatures will take a bit of a dip.
01:35So a chilly night to come.
01:37Most places, particularly your towns and cities, holding up a few degrees above freezing.
01:41But especially where we get the clear skies, the sheltered glens of Scotland likely to
01:45dip a few degrees below.
01:47So a bit of frost here.
01:48Otherwise, as we go through tomorrow, a bit of a blustery start across eastern parts of
01:52England towards Lincolnshire, also East Anglia, some showery outbreaks of rain as well, particularly
01:57through the morning.
01:58But the winds, the showers, they should ease as we go through the day here and elsewhere.
02:02A lot of fine weather on offer.
02:04That being said, there will be a few showers around the showers most frequent across parts
02:08of Scotland, particularly towards the north and west.
02:10Also some showers for Northern Ireland and the showers could still have a bit of a wintry
02:14element to them as they hit any higher ground, particularly the highest peaks.
02:18Some sleet or snow quite possible.
02:20There will again be some sunny spells on offer, perhaps more sunshine than through today.
02:25But once more, temperatures still only just around average for the time of year.
02:29Just about double figures in the south, maybe further north.
02:31It will be a couple of degrees warmer than today.
02:35As we go through Thursday and into Friday, high pressure is going to continue to build.
02:39So that's going to help clear those showers away.
02:41But with high pressure, calm winds, clear skies overnight into Friday, it's going to
02:45be chilly, a frosty start to the day for many of us, but then a bright fine day on Friday
02:50for most.
02:51However, a front coming in from the northwest does mean we're going to see increasing amounts
02:55of cloud and a bit of rain pushing into the far northwest as we go later on in the day.
03:00There is then going to be some rain across northern parts as we go through this weekend.
03:04But further south, it's looking mostly fine and dry.
03:07But if you want to know more about what it's looking like further ahead, why not check
03:11out our 10-day trend, which will be available with Honour on both our YouTube channel and
03:15our app later on this afternoon.
03:17See you again soon.
03:18Bye bye.
