00:00The escalation uh has been so bad by the way you need to cover it again it's been getting much
00:03worse they're about to put the guy in jail they don't even let the lawyers in blocking tv channels
00:07from showing it what demonstrations are planned at universities across istanbul today amid calls
00:15for wider protest over the arrest and detention of president erdogan's top rival the istanbul mayor
00:21ekram imamolu on wednesday students so you just put him in jail
00:30oh is somebody running against me put him in jail
00:34protesters clashed with riot police in the capital ankara
00:38holy shit deployed tear gas and water cannon on by the way i think this is totally justified
00:44if you are usurping the democratic process the only alternative is violent protest
00:52i hate violent protest i think it's horrible and destructive
00:56but the only thing that's worse than that is taking away people's democratic representation
01:04in the capital protesters also gathered in cities across turkey
01:08despite a government ban which extends online change no i never have detained 30 it was the
01:13same argumentation that i used for why i thought that for example like the boston tea party was okay
01:19versus like people attacking the capital building on january 6th or something like that
01:24uh no i've been completely consistent about this the entire time
01:30if the government is invalid then so is the law exactly despite a government ban which extends
01:37online police say they detained 37 suspects for allegedly making what they called provocative
01:43social media posts provocative social media but what a bunch of fucking bullshit man
01:49oh my god i think we really uh we really forget how lucky we are here in america
01:55uh man some of these other countries in the world are really fucked up
02:03mr emma moly was set to be named as the presidential candidate for the opposition
02:07republican people's party known as the chp the government say they are cracking down on corruption
02:14and accuse the opposition of links to a terrorist group the opposition say this is
02:19about erdogan consolidating his power our reporter emily withers brought us up to date
02:26so i think what's interesting is that imam olu may have spent the night in custody but it's the
02:31opposition party that still controls the municipality here in istanbul so when people woke up
02:37this morning and commuted into work using the metro they heard the voice of imam olu blaring out
02:43on speakers there are already calls today for more large demonstrations to happen at universities
02:50across the city there's calls for more wider protests well i still go to turkey now no in
02:55my opinion i don't think this is going to stand i think they're going to have to acquiesce they're
03:00they're going to cave to this like you you can't be putting your political opponents in jail
03:08you can't do that like i'm sorry like turkey is not like a third world country turkey is a developed
03:17educated country i don't think this is going to fly now i could be wrong
03:24but i i don't think it's going to happen particularly here in istanbul and in ankara
03:28as you said third world i didn't say it's first world either i said it's not third world
03:32like this this country is not a complete shithole i've seen videos of turkey and i've seen videos
03:36of turkey a place is not awful there were large crowds tens of thousands out on the streets in
03:44istanbul and ankara last night who clashed with police but the numbers still aren't quite large
03:50enough to really put major political pressure on the president president erdogan we may see the
03:56protests grow as we move into the weekend but turks know that it's very risky to protest here
04:02in turkey there are many detentions that happen here and they may not want to take that risk
04:07we're also seeing arrests related to online media so the turkish authorities have said that they
04:13detained 37 suspects already something somewhere happened years ago with bigger protests until
04:19erdogan took out the tanks on the street and caved the protests countless arrests and everything
04:23ended his way fuck man
04:30is that true well fuck maybe i'm wrong i didn't even know that for allegedly making what they
04:37called provocative social media posts over the over the detention of imam olu we also expect
04:44that there will be more arrests of opposition figures in the coming days meanwhile when it
04:49comes to imam olu we know that the authorities here have now seized his construction company
04:54that he co-owns and it may be that in the coming days he is replaced with a government appointee
05:02pending his investigation so this is the guy also who in order in turkey for you to run for office
05:09you need to have a degree of a higher education and didn't they also revoke this guy's degree
05:16uh degree i mean like that's that that's is that it yeah same guy okay all right good
05:25that's kind of weird though you're wrong though it might happen germany probably wanted to change
05:29us laws during world war ii if they won the war i mean i don't know like i i i mean i we could we
05:36could talk about this on both sides right where it's like i could look at russia right we're like
05:41russia like you've had like basically they've had a culture of i would say oppressive government
05:48for a very long time right i think that china is to an extent the same thing but like a shift in
05:54culture to oppressive government isn't quite as common and the most recent example of that change
06:00actually failing would be south korea right when the south korean prime minister tried to institute
06:05martial law and then he was totally fucking out but then you can also use the argument of iran in
06:101979 so those are like i i just i don't know since the beginning of russia yeah so it's like it could
06:16be both 1989 tenement square and protest yeah tell us a bit more about him it's always different why
06:24the concern around him from president erdogan
06:27Ekrem Imamoglu is incredibly popular he's very charismatic he appeals to people across the
06:37political divide and on sunday there was supposed to be a major opposition voting round where they
06:45were going to name Ekrem Imamoglu as their presidential candidate in future elections
06:51the opposition say that that's still going ahead despite what happens to Ekrem Imamoglu
06:57and you know this is part of a months-long crackdown that we've seen here in turkey where
07:03many opposition mayors business leaders and journalists have been rounded up in a nationwide
07:10crackdown and you know Imamoglu wouldn't be maybe my understanding was wrong because i really thought
07:16turkey was much more i i don't i i don't like using the word because there's a lot of baggage
07:23with it but much more progressive i've always thought of turkey as like one of the much more
07:28progressive countries muslim countries yeah yeah exactly first political leader to be put in jail
07:36just earlier this month the leader of a turkish opposition party was arrested and detained he's
07:42currently in jail right now pending a trial on charges of insulting president erdogan
07:48and inciting hatred he too has called the charges political and this is all part of
07:54erdogan trying to shore up power potentially ahead of early elections i also think like i i don't
08:01want to make this an argument with trump but like can you guys see the difference between like some
08:06of these guys like in these other countries that are getting put in jail for stuff and like the
08:10stuff that trump did like these guys are getting put in jail for like total fucking bullshit
08:15right like it's and i think also even trump getting put in jail or potentially being put in
08:20jail for things that were like kind of legitimate um even that galvanized people completely against
08:26the democrats i i always i said this you like two years ago three years ago when they started
08:30trying to like charge trump with a bunch of stuff i was like you either you either take him out with
08:35this right you put him in jail you totally destroy him or he's going to win it is literally one or
08:42the other this is crazy yeah i didn't know about any of this so this is the event right here
09:08holy shit
09:12so
09:21and and and by the way like you can't criticize them for wearing masks and shit right
09:27because like these people do get apparently politically prosecuted
09:34i know a lot of people look at that as a bad thing because like here in the u.s
09:37you have people that usually wear masks if they want to commit the crimes
09:42they're shooting gas all the time oh really
09:48about outside istanbul municipality for the fourth night in a row to
09:52protest the detention of mayor emogu oh my god
10:01wait what the fuck
10:12holy shit
10:16oh my god look at all this
10:31oh
10:42this is corruption
10:48i mean
10:55it doesn't look like anybody's really fighting
10:57back at all it's like they're throwing things at the cops
11:03so
11:15wow i just want you guys whenever you hear about some pampered uh you know you know 30
11:24something millennial that lives in a middle-class area that's a gated community in the united states
11:30talk about fascism and government oppression i just want you to think back on this
11:40this is crazy and by the way all of these protests all the oh there's there's a there's a
11:46bad boy okay all of these protests are because the democratic process apparently just you know uh
11:55it just decided not to do it you know like
12:01they just decided you know what let's just not do it oh my god and uh yeah remember this
12:08no this is a song i don't know i mean like i i'm not sure like what hasan thinks about this at all
12:14right i've i've no idea but i mean it's not like hasan's like what are you guys you're trying to
12:21blame this on his son why are you trying to blame this on his son didn't do anything
12:35why would his son do this
12:40i don't know guys yeah i don't think this got anything to do with the man and uh yeah wow
12:48wow this is insane oh my god let me see if i can look at a few more of these
12:55and it's just incredible two days these are more of the protests here
13:01and this is a live this this is a live broadcast so it's literally happening right now
13:12holy fuck man
13:17some countries use paint and no water
13:24ganon so violent protesters are easier to identify if they try to run
13:30really this is uh this is a live view right now
13:47they just split screen this yeah
13:55it's surreal to see major events like this go down in real time yeah it's crazy we didn't
13:59even really watch the serious shit that happened it just kind of happened over a couple of nights
14:07and here's another one right here i'm gonna listen to this without the audio
14:12isn't it crazy to see a country where everybody's wearing the same flag
14:16i can't relate wish i could
14:26this is terrifying yeah it is
14:33i guess polis is obviously police
14:36oh
14:42arresting your opposition and not allowing free elections is tantamount to violence in the first
14:46place some people just say enough is enough no like i said this before like
14:56uh what do you call it uh fuck what is the martin luther king quote violence is the language of the
15:03unheard or something like that and it's something to that effect and uh basically this is this is
15:11this this is that like these people like they're they can't vote like they're putting the guy that
15:17they're gonna vote for in jail like protest not violence the thing is that i disagree with
15:26violence inside of a democracy but if you don't have a representative democracy then how else can
15:32you what else can you do the protesters are not violent by the way you're right they're not
15:39actually that's a really good point yeah like there's a couple of bad boys for sure but most
15:46of these people are actually very well well mannered you're right no that's a that's a
15:51really good point even these guys they're not attacking the police there's nobody at least
15:56right now that are throwing anything at the police they're just standing there some are throwing
16:03stones yeah and that's bad but what i'm saying is that it's a very small minority and it's nothing
16:08like what you see here in america like i would even say that this is mostly peaceful i would
16:14say it looks like it's 99 peaceful and the times where it's not it's whenever they're
16:20spraying the fucking water at the people that are protesting
16:33and we've got shit like this man this is us this is us right here
16:42fucking embarrassing absolutely fucking embarrassing
16:57intellectual distance so so you're you're you're trying to uh you're trying to sneak this me
17:01what are you unhappy about that i'm saying which bad faith argument are you going to make
17:08what do you mean by that
17:20yeah let me see which one which one is it going to be
17:24let me make sure i move this over to the side
17:33you're bending backwards to give reasons why this protest is okay
17:37okay here's the reasons why i think that it's okay the democratic process has been
17:43apparently ignored the jailing of political opponents the um seemingly escalation
17:51of oh right there's also government censorship too so the government is censoring people's speech
17:59and then number four uh you also have the violence that is being initiated seemingly
18:06by the government so all of these things are totally different than what i would look at in
18:13america people aren't being put in jail for opinions in america unless the opinion is
18:19they're gonna fucking kill somebody uh people are like the vote happens it's just that they
18:25lose the vote um and also there's tons of people that are protesters that are massively violent
18:32look at this look at that store if this is america there'd be 50 people in that store
18:37stealing everything out of the store this is nothing like the united states
18:42the guy was arrested over corruption and fraud
18:46really then why'd they take away his degree
18:51and why'd they do it to other people as well where's the proof of that
18:56yeah according to who like i mean you don't find this to be unsettling
19:11the level of violence doesn't matter it's an illegal protest so in your terms it should not
19:14be allowed yeah no uh but like of course it shouldn't be allowed but like what my point is
19:20is that it's also illegal to just basically disregard the democratic process so if they're
19:26not following the laws then why should you that's a totally different thing
19:34nuance is hard yeah it's not even close like if they were protesting because they lost an
19:38election i'd be saying they're retarded the same as i do with people here yeah this is not america
19:43yeah this this is not happening in the united states there's no dissonance here there's no
19:48double speak here it's just common sense different situations and reasonable viewpoint
19:53this crisis moron yeah this person comes in argues every day it's one of these serial
19:57disagreers it's fine um anyway let's see here he sounds the opposition by planning
20:03freight charges on them it's possible that's the case and is that no not yet not yet
20:12the government's changing the rules
20:20i bet they are yeah this is awful man i didn't know this at all
20:28there shouldn't even be a topic the number of people that agree with the
20:30opinion is being targeted and not being able to protest on top of that yeah
20:34i mean like if he's been ruling for that long and uh you know they did apparently they rolled
20:40out tanks in 2016 to like stop protests as well like i i don't know i don't know if that's really
20:45making your argument
20:54he's lying about the illegal protest oh maybe you're right i just don't know that
20:57bro that was a coup
21:022016 was attempted coup though he didn't roll the tanks okay
21:08man wow this video does a good job explaining yeah no if somebody wants to uh defy coup
21:27man wow this video does a good job explaining yeah no if somebody wants to
21:34the fake coup yeah I mean again like I'm kind of like I don't really know a lot
21:40about Turkey's politics right I mean I'm gonna be totally honest like I'm just
21:44looking at this is like basically a spectator so like I don't understand
21:47like how it got this bad I don't really know their laws I'm not sure about their
21:50culture like I you know like I've looked at it just very very you know casually
21:56so if I get something wrong I apologize I just I'm just basically just stream of
22:03consciousness talking about this
22:12they have a lot of controversy with the government
22:18you'll probably see more of it tomorrow with good info yeah I'd like to see a
22:22video on this like a good a good video that explains everything that happened
22:272016 there was a coup but it was civil compared to the other international
22:31affairs the current leaders very similar to Putin I don't know
22:44did they even hold a trial to remove the dude's degree probably not but I don't
22:48know now you understand why in France we're always protesting as soon as we
22:54don't agree with our government we manifest it so it's important to
22:57manifest and let the government know that they're not all powerful and they
22:59work for the country I mean
23:10my friends literally on the ground getting gassed it's messed up Turks have
23:14a lot of national pride won't stand for this oh no no I know that I remember the
23:18our slash place bro the Turkey flag was always the biggest flag it was that one
23:23and and the France flag oh my fucking god like yes like they are the the most
23:31patriotic it is crazy best references read it yeah I don't know bottom right
23:43sure looks peaceful what are these paintball guns yeah I think they're
23:47paintball guns holy shit man it's crazy to see what's happening around the world
23:57like this too like I had no idea about this
24:05Wow
24:10Wow maybe this is a good video I don't know if I want to watch this right now
24:16but yeah I might watch this tomorrow and just look at everything that's
24:21happening black belt Putin yeah apparently he was like into jujitsu and
24:27or judo or whatever yeah would you agree this is why we need Second Amendment to
24:31remain intact so we can fight back against our government trying to write
24:34this I think that the Second Amendment has like a lot of purposes like obviously
24:39it has a purpose of like yeah like as some sort of collateral against
24:44tyrannical government sure but it's also for self-defense as well and I
24:50think that it's also based off of the premise that I think that like really it
24:56should be about like why can't you have something rather than why can you have
24:59it and so I think people should be able to have guns right unless there's a
25:03really good reason for them not to
25:07someone's only in Turkey the reason to the protest is the unfair trial one of
25:10the two strongest candidates against Erdogan I'd also like to point out that
25:13the head of the opposition party has been detained for two months without any
25:16justification that's insane don't listen anyone who's against the first or second
25:21amendment you end up like my country yeah I mean like again I just I wish
25:27that more people in America they saw how extreme this was to like
25:33compare you know because it is it is fucking wild
25:42second amendment isn't gonna stop a drone or a tank little bro no no I agree
25:46with you and I think that like by the way I think that convergence began in
25:51like I think was like 1790 when the Supreme Court decided that a person
25:55can't own a military naval vessel with a cannon so like I agree with you and then
26:01it even goes back like that far so yeah sure well bro yeah that's a it's
26:08deterrent yeah it's a deterrent
26:16the 30k civilians to do a lot yeah maybe a little bros Chris disrespectful I
26:20think he was just I don't think he meant it that way but maybe he would maybe he
26:23did another ruled the opposite maybe it was a different one I'm thinking of it
26:34was like some variation of that we're like basically they ruled that you
26:37because like the argument was that the intention of the Second Amendment was
26:41for people in the US to have equivalent arms as the as the military but then
26:47very quickly as the military grew and advanced you know it became like okay
26:52well we can't do that Second Amendment see a nuclear in American thing well
26:59there's a few countries that stick that have doesn't Switzerland everybody has a
27:02gun too it's not super uncommon
27:14yeah I don't know what to think about this it's kind of insane to see Wow
27:22yeah it's kind of insane to see all this happen to be honest this is BLM or
27:30left-wingers would you think that they had the right to protest that was my
27:33point no I don't think that they have the right to protest because the
27:36democratic process was not being postponed their candidates were not
27:40being put in jail and they don't have systematic oppression that removes the
27:44right to free speech so here in America and also you can protest whatever you
27:50want like I wasn't against BLM riots I was against be oh I wasn't against BLM
27:55protests I was against BLM riots like if all these people are breaking into the
28:00buildings I would say that's really bad like I just I don't think you're doing
28:05anybody any favors by trying to like you know paint with this massive broad brush
28:10where like all protests are the same they're not all the same and the the
28:15goals that they have are not the same the countries that they exist in are not
28:20the same everything about it is different it's a total bad faith
28:24argument and it's based off of a pretense that doesn't even exist so
28:30which one's really different yeah I don't know
28:39logic has its place instead of violence it's a balance well logic violence has
28:44its place when logic is ignored right and democracy is ignored which seems
28:50like what's happening try to watch news from the US Europe and also China and
28:59Singapore see if there's discrepancies between coverage oh I'm sure that it's
29:02massively like biased your logic in the US is being ignored yeah I know you've
29:13been pretty consistent on saying protests where illegal activities aren't
29:15done or totally fine I don't know why people try to twist it on you the reason
29:19why it's because they want to be violent and protest and they think that if they
29:22violently protest that they can force people into doing what they want that's
29:26the reason why you have so much of that happen that's the reason why you have so
29:30many people that are like okay with it is because they think that if if if we're
29:35okay with this and we let this violent protest happen then maybe we can bully
29:39people into doing what we want
