00:00Yesterday, I was playing GTA 5 with my favorite pet ant, DPD.
00:03He was staring intensely into the screen as I drove around the map running pedestrians over.
00:08I couldn't help but think, maybe my ants want to play GTA with me.
00:11And it gave me an idea.
00:13What if DPD and the rest of his family had their own city?
00:16But not just any city.
00:18They needed Los Santos.
00:19Yep, I'm about to 3D print the entire GTA 5 map as the brand new home for my ant colony.
00:31But there's a big problem.
00:33The ants are going to take 10 days to arrive,
00:35but the entire GTA 5 map is going to take 45 days to print.
00:39And there's no way I'm going to be able to print this in time with just one printer.
00:43And if I don't print this in 10 days,
00:45then when my ants arrive, they won't have a home and they'll most likely die.
00:49So here's the plan.
00:50I'm about to 3D print the entire GTA 5 map as the new home for my ant colony.
00:55Once complete, my ant colony will take part in GTA style missions,
00:58such as bank heists and gang wars.
01:00The first step was to find a 3D model of the map online.
01:04But to know how big I want this thing to be,
01:06I had to scale this map to a suitable size for this room in my house.
01:10Once I knew how big I wanted it,
01:11this 3D model had to be scaled up and dissected into printable segments.
01:20Frank?
01:22Yeah?
01:22Do you think you'd be able to cut the entire GTA 5 map up for me
01:26into like 82 individual pieces?
01:30Why the f-
01:31So this is Frank.
01:32Frank is plan B because plan A didn't exactly go to plan.
01:37And to be frank, he's now our designated 3D artist for this project.
01:41Over the next few days, Frank worked his magic.
01:43And I sat there pretending to help.
01:45Once it was done, we had 82 pieces of Los Santos,
01:49which is when I actually realized the scale of this project.
01:52And I still don't have enough printers.
01:54Basically, I've got a huge project
01:56and I've got about 800 hours worth of printing to do for a YouTube video I'm making.
02:01No.
02:02The person you are trying to reach is currently unavailable.
02:04Basically, I'm trying to print 800 hours worth of 3D prints.
02:08And I'm going to need quite...
02:11I don't have any friends who have 3D printers.
02:13I've called different companies, rental companies.
02:16I've even emailed, Instagram DM'd brands.
02:20It's not looking good.
02:21Or at least it wasn't until Jack made one final suggestion.
02:25Bro, put a story up.
02:26Do you reckon?
02:27Surely people would be down to print.
02:30I don't know if people who watch my videos would have 3D printers though.
02:33I wasn't very helpful, but I gave it a go anyway, just in case.
02:36And within minutes, the email started to come through.
02:39Oh, yes, let's go.
02:43Yes!
02:45The army is here.
02:46So these are the people that have volunteered to help me 3D print the GTA map.
02:51But here's the catch.
02:52These kind people don't even know what they're actually printing.
02:55There are 82 individual parts to this giant print.
02:58So for all these people know, they're printing any old useless piece of plastic
03:02and they'll only find out what they've contributed to once this video goes live.
03:07There's one piece that I've seen and I think it's the GTA 5 map.
03:11Oh, shit.
03:13Here we go again.
03:14What makes you think it's the GTA 5 map?
03:16Which piece is it?
03:17I've got a bridge and like a loop road and I think I recognise it.
03:21This might throw you off a little bit.
03:22So the GTA map is based on LA.
03:25I should do it.
03:26I won't suspect a thing.
03:27I think it's the GTA 5 map.
03:28I also agree.
03:29I think it's a map and I do go down the route of like thinking it's GTA.
03:33I don't think it's GTA 5.
03:34I think it might be GTA 5 map.
03:36Never mind.
03:37But what they haven't figured out is what exactly I'm going to be doing with the map.
03:41I think you're going to make a map and then you're probably going to destroy it in the most
03:44J-Swing-ly type of way.
03:45You're going to wear one of those T-Rex suits and trample the thing,
03:49maybe like a transformer or something.
03:51I don't know, maybe throw a dart on it and go there.
03:54I believe you're going to like fire like cannons,
03:57balls at it and just blow it up and just destroy it.
04:01Yo, you lot don't think very much of me, do you?
04:04I think it's going to surprise you all what we're actually doing with this.
04:07If I'm lost, I have no clue.
04:09As soon as I end the call, it's go time.
04:10So, and I appreciate you all so very much.
04:13Like this video wouldn't be possible without you.
04:15So, thank you.
04:16Good luck.
04:17Love you guys.
04:17See you.
04:18Bye.
04:18See you.
04:19Bye.
04:19Let's get printed.
04:21Crunch time starts now.
04:23Let's get this show on the road.
04:24Number 17, please.
04:26Number 17, please.
04:27Number 17, please.
04:28Number 17, please.
04:29Number 17, please.
04:3017 pieces.
04:31I'll show you.
04:32You guys can see I've got 17 pieces here.
04:34I only got enough material to do this one, so I wish me luck.
04:38This is the start of my journey.
04:39Got my 3D printers that I've purchased.
04:42Got the 3D printers in.
04:44Currently setting them up.
04:45Here's the first piece.
04:46It's going to take 8 hours 17 minutes.
04:48So, let's send that to our first printer.
04:50For the first few days, this was going extremely well with everyone's prints looking great
04:55until we hit our first big print issue.
04:58We've had our first failure.
05:00I don't even know what happened.
05:01The printer thinks it did it.
05:02This cannot be happening, man.
05:04This keeps playing up on me.
05:05It keeps zeroing out.
05:06See, look.
05:07It's just gone to zero.
05:08This is not what you want when you've got three prints to do and they take 13 hours each
05:12and only a couple of days to do it.
05:15This ain't going to work.
05:16They even started sending images into our Discord chat of their print fails and, man,
05:20I was getting extremely worried.
05:22But after a few hours, the community did what it does best and they started helping each
05:26other out.
05:27The guys in the community chats, they have just given me some advice and I think we've
05:31got it sorted.
05:32Okay, we're hitting send to the 3D printer and in the next 8 hours, this thing should
05:37be printed.
05:37Over the next two days, people's prints just kept coming and coming.
05:41But something's still missing.
05:44The paint.
05:45This hotel is where I'll be hosting this massive community painting project where people have
05:50actually volunteered to help me bring this ant colony to life.
05:53But I didn't really believe that 30 plus people would turn up to a random hotel to
05:58help out a man in need.
06:00But just after setting this venue up, two people walked through the door, then another
06:04one, then another one, then another four, then another three.
06:09And before we knew it, we had tables filled with people painting away each piece of Los
06:14Santos.
06:15But here's where it gets serious.
06:19This is not a deliberate hook, I promise you.
06:21This is the reality of the situation.
06:23We only have five hours to paint 82 pieces of the GTA V map before we get kicked out
06:29of the venue.
06:30We're on a time crunch here, so every second counts.
06:34Cue the montage music that makes this seem 10 times easier than it actually was.
06:45Yo, ladies and gentlemen, can I make an announcement, yeah?
06:47We only have to paint two more each, and this will be completely finished by the end
06:52of today.
06:53So let's go.
06:55Can you do like a really fake reaction for YouTube for me?
06:58Yeah, man, you see that?
07:02Yeah, man.
07:03Like the video on Earth.
07:05Now, just painting two pieces each might sound quick and easy on paper, but some of these
07:09pieces were taking hours to paint, especially this city.
07:13One guy even spent five hours painting the tiny little details.
07:16Is it actually your first piece?
07:17It's not my first piece.
07:18Broski.
07:19It's not, it's not.
07:19It's quarter to two.
07:20It's not.
07:21And then just to add a bit more pressure to the situation, I found out that two people
07:25had flown all the way from Northern Ireland to help us paint, and if we weren't done in
07:30time, they'd miss the flight home.
07:31Left the house at half four, arrived here at 10 o'clock.
07:34As the day went on, though, I started to become hopeful.
07:36The finished pieces kept coming, and with less than an hour to go, we had all 82 pieces
07:42painted and ready to go.
07:43I don't really know how to end this, because I feel bad.
07:45You've all put in loads of effort today, and a thank you doesn't really cut it.
07:50Massive round of applause, guys, for everyone.
07:53It's finally time to start putting the 3D prints together to make the full map, and
07:57for a start, I need to make sure they don't escape.
07:59This is a piece of clear perspex.
08:01You can see through this just like a normal window.
08:04You see this little ridge that we've put into this wood here?
08:07This allows us to slot the perspex in.
08:08We're able then to look through the perspex into the dirt and into the GTA city.
08:14And that brings me on to how the ants are going to function inside the map.
08:17I needed to fill the container with 300 kilos of sand for the ants to use for burrowing,
08:22commuting, and protecting their queens.
08:24And finally, I'd like to present to you something I've been dreaming about for the
08:28last seven days, a 3D print of Los Santos.
08:32But, of course, there's still one thing missing, the ants.
08:48What I immediately started noticing was that the ants were grabbing the eggs and running
08:58away with them.
08:59You see, there's a reason why I chose the ants.
09:01To be the subject of this video, because they're incredible at working together as
09:05a team and communicating with each other.
09:07These ants are the worker ants.
09:08Their job is to serve the queen, look after the eggs, and go about their daily lives around
09:13the city.
09:13Some of the worker ants even have their own businesses.
09:15And to run those businesses, they use Odoo.
09:18Odoo is an all-in-one management software that provides entrepreneurs like my friend
09:22Greg here, an ant, with a range of applications to simplify the day-to-day management to their
09:28businesses, including invoicing, accounting, project management, website creation, and
09:33so much more.
09:34Isn't that right, little buddy?
09:35Say yes, Greg.
09:36Greg, say yes.
09:37Your first Odoo application is free for life with unlimited hosting and support.
09:42They even offer a free personalized domain name for an entire year.
09:46Even Greg can run his business stress-free without worrying about hidden website fees
09:50or overpaying for his domain name.
09:52And I guess better.
09:52The Odoo Website Builder application is a powerful tool for creating websites quickly,
09:56easily, and efficiently.
09:58And it's free of charge, so you can get your business up and running in no time.
10:01Odoo keeps pace with your growing and evolving business needs, allowing you to add additional
10:06applications to the service as your business grows and your needs change.
10:10So, if you've had an idea and you want to start a business just like Greg, visit odoo.com
10:15to find out more.
10:16Off you go, Greg.
10:18Oh, s***!
10:20Of course, it wouldn't be Los Santos without a few troublemakers now, would it?
10:24All right, let me break it down.
10:26These are the Mafia Rants.
10:27Just one of the seven upgrades I'll be making to the city throughout this video.
10:30The Mafia Rant's job is to shake things up around the place.
10:36You can catch them at any given time robbing a bank, hiding bodies, or stealing food from
10:41other ants.
10:42To begin with, I thought introducing Mafia Rants was a good idea.
10:45Shortly after, I definitely regretted it.
10:47A few hours later, Los Santos started to feel like a lawless city.
10:51Things weren't looking good.
10:52Ants were fighting in the street and the worker ants, well, they were reducing in numbers.
10:57To begin with, I was kind of confused as to why the worker ants had disappeared.
11:01But I think I found the answer.
11:04This is Bobby.
11:05Born in massive Italy, he quickly rose from small-time scams to leading a local ant farm.
11:10Known for his ruthless ambition, he orchestrated a massive sugar heist, solidifying his power.
11:16He then expanded into illegal activities, eliminating rivals and traitors with brutal
11:22efficiency.
11:23Though his rise to power came at a terrible cost.
11:25His beloved wife, once his closest confidant, began to question his violent path.
11:30Paranoia consumed Bobby, and in a twisted act of loyalty to his empire, he ordered her
11:35execution, personally overseeing her demise.
11:39Now, as a powerful crime boss, he controls the underworld.
11:42His name's synonymous with fear and respect.
11:45Haunted by the ghost of the woman he sacrificed for power.
11:49And this is Joey.
11:50He does f**k all, to be honest.
11:52He's just, um, he's just one of those guys.
11:54He's got like a scar on his face.
11:56He just looks like a bad man.
11:57If you break him down psychologically, you'll see that he's basically nothing.
12:01He's just an insecure little man that just basically robs people on the street because
12:04he is projecting on other people.
12:07Things were going great.
12:08We had a smoothly running economy, bar the mafia causing havoc.
12:11The buildings were still intact.
12:13No riots were going down, and no one seemed to be on strike.
12:16But after a few hours, things got quiet.
12:19A little too quiet.
12:24I was starting to wonder where they were all disappearing to, until I made this incredible
12:29discovery.
12:30The ants had started an entire underground army under Los Santos.
12:34But, I've got some bad news.
12:37You're about to go to war.
12:39And there's only one way to defend yourself.
12:42You've got to use-
12:42Ha ha!
12:43I can't do it!
12:44You've got to use this.
12:46I know, I know, I'm a disgrace to humanity, but if you want to let these ants take over
12:51and beat all of your asses watching, then be my guest.
12:54But, if you've got a pair of balls and you want to step up, then hit the subscribe button
12:57to claim your weapon to defeat my ant army.
13:00I mentioned earlier that the ants are incredibly smart, and this is a great example of it.
13:04Here is a single ant that has identified what it believes to be the safest place for
13:08the queen to live, and where she'll face the least threat from the outside world.
13:12That single ant has then sent a chemical signal out to the other ants in the colony, communicating
13:16with them, and letting them know of its discovery.
13:19Through chemical signals, that message has then gone back to the queen ant, who's relocated
13:23herself to the location the ant discovered earlier.
13:25From there, the ants, who have incredible memories by the way, are now transporting
13:29the eggs to and from the queen, so she can feed them and allow them to grow and survive.
13:34Eventually expanding the colony, resulting in a much bigger, better, and smarter one.
13:39These creatures are fascinating, but this isn't the only thing that makes them so unique.
13:43I'll touch on that in just a second.
13:45For now, we've got a mafia problem to deal with.
13:48If this city is ever going to grow and expand, it's going to need some control, and what
13:52better way to do that than the police?
13:57These guys are five times bigger than the ants, and hopefully they'll keep the mafia
14:01in check.
14:02They're not predators to the ants, but compete for the same food, and therefore the mafia
14:07ants will think twice about stealing from the workers while the cockroach police are
14:11around.
14:12At least that was the plan.
14:18Yeah, this guy's in pieces now.
14:20He's got a different limb in each county.
14:22The mafia ants are going to use this guy's limbs as currency in the casino now, you know.
14:26My man Tony's going to walk into the casino, yeah, and put three legs on black on a roulette
14:31table, you know.
14:32Anyway, this is another example of why these creatures are so fascinating, though.
14:36They can actually carry up to 50 times their own body weight, and it might not look impressive
14:40to us, but that is the equivalent of me carrying an entire giraffe, and as a result, once the
14:45cockroach police have been flipped onto their back, they don't stand a chance against these
14:49mafia ants, despite being five times bigger than them.
14:52This cockroach will be pulled apart limb by limb and eaten by the ants within hours, but
14:57of course, if you behave like this in Los Santos, your star rating is going to go up,
15:01and if the ants hit five stars later in the video, I'll be releasing a mystery predator
15:06into Los Santos, the ultimate test of the ants' teamwork.
15:09For now, though, here's a quick update.
15:11The workarounds have been busy upgrading the city over the last few days, so let's see
15:14what they've been up to.
15:15They built Los Santos Customs, they also built a brand new casino, and they also made the
15:21Vinewood sign, but all of these changes in the city are causing some extreme weather
15:25conditions.
15:26Never knew construction had an effect on the weather, to be honest, but we move.
15:30This could cause major problems for the ants, as they've buried all of their eggs underground.
15:35What the fuck is this video?
15:37If this weather causes...
15:43I'm sat here making stories up about ant simulations, man.
15:49What am I doing?
15:51Okay, if this weather causes flooding...
15:56If this weather causes flooding, their eggs could be at risk.
16:00So, they instantly kicked into action and began transporting the eggs to a safer part
16:04of the map together, but once the storm had passed, they had another problem.
16:08A lot of their food washed away in the storm, and now the ants had very limited resources.
16:13They began fighting over the remaining food, and things got out of hand very quickly.
16:21It's time for the predator to take control.
16:24This is Mr. Wiggles, a falcus phalangoid spider.
16:30Literally, yeah, daddy long legs, but that just sounded scarier.
16:32And for the next 24 hours, the ants have to communicate to avoid him.
16:36But this is where the pair of these ants shocked me the most.
16:39They didn't just avoid him, they fully attacked him.
16:42One single ant quite literally jumped on the back of this spider and rode it like a bull.
16:47Not only that, the ant was stinging and biting this thing in the back of the neck until it
16:51was dead.
16:51At this point, the ant had overcome a challenge even I thought would be too much to handle.
16:56And in many ways, so have I, to be honest.
16:58Throughout this video, I haven't been completely honest with you.
17:01You see, this wasn't a video about ants.
17:04In many ways, when you zoom out on a global scale, we are just ants.
17:08We have the same traits, the same problems, the same roles, and the same shortcomings.
17:13But unlike ants, we often overlook the value of community, and we overestimate what we're
17:18capable of alone.
17:20We have big dreams and big ideas, but we're often too worried about the opinions of others
17:24to share and pursue them with a group of like-minded individuals.
17:28The ants don't think about any of that.
17:30When they have a goal, they come together as a community and they figure it out, just
17:33like I had to do in this video.
17:35Without my friends, my family, and this community of you all watching this video at home, none
17:39of this would ever have been possible.
17:41To 3D model, 3D print, paint, and assemble a model of this size and scale on my own would
17:48have taken over a year.
17:49But because of community, it took me two weeks.
17:52From Chloe and my mom preparing food for the painting day, to Frank spending his entire
17:57weekend cutting up the map, to the 3D printers who spent hundreds of hours solving problems
18:02and perfecting the prints, none of this would have been possible without any of them.
18:06My name is Romuald Henry.
18:08Ryan.
18:08Bobby.
18:09Pat.
18:09Kerry.
18:10Nick.

18:13Lewis.
18:14Ryan.
18:14Jess.
18:15Mikey.
18:15Lewis.
18:15And I've painted one piece.
18:17One piece.
18:18Twelve.
18:19Two.
18:19One.
18:20Three pieces.
18:20Three.
18:21One piece.
18:21One piece.
18:22Four.
18:23Four pieces.
18:23Three pieces.
18:24I printed eight pieces.
18:26I printed 25 pieces.
18:27Six parts.
18:28I printed six pieces.
18:29I printed 10 pieces.
18:31If you do want to support my channel, I'm holding an auction over on my website right
18:35now, jimmys.store, where you can place a bid on any of the 82 pieces from the actual map
18:41from this video.
18:42All the money that's raised off that auction too will just go towards funding bigger and
