00:00Also, Wiggins tipped it back to Moody. Here's Curry. Curry takes a handoff. Screen by post.
00:06Curry trapped at midcourt.
00:08Dribbles around the trap all the way to the rim. Flipped it up and in! Somehow, some way!
00:14119 to 115. Warriors down four.
00:17Dubnation, it's the voice of the Warriors, Tim Roy. You're listening to Willard and Dibbs on
00:2395.7 The Game. I wonder, you know how people do the Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti thing when they're like warming up to sing?
00:29Yeah. I wonder if Tim Roy, as he gets ready for this game tonight, is like
00:35Vuchavich. Maybe. Vuchavich.
00:39Vuchavich. Vuchavich. Vuchavich.
00:42Because who knows? Maybe he'll be saying it a lot for the rest of the year. I don't know.
00:47Yeah, and I wonder how much pods practice there was before he made his debut, just to make sure you get that one right.
00:54The Poughkeepsie Kid? Yeah.
00:56Well, let's find out. Tim Roy, the voice of the Dubs, is on with us here on Willard and Dibbs. Hey, Tim, what's going on?
01:02What's going on, guys? How are we doing today?
01:04We are good. Tim joining us on the River Islands guest line.
01:08Are you practicing Nikola Vuchavich's name just a little bit extra?
01:14Well, when I get upstairs, I'll look at it. But, you know, I've seen him so many times.
01:19I mean, he's been in the league a long time.
01:21So, you know, it's the new guys who come in the league who you don't have a, you know, maybe you've only seen them on tape and things like that.
01:30So those are the ones you have to really, you know, look at and maybe practice a little bit so you know what you're doing.
01:35And I usually check in with my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, so to speak, and find out exactly how they pronounce things.
01:44So, but once a guy gets in the league for a few years, usually you've got it down pat.
01:50Tim, I got to tell you, watching Quinton Post a little bit last night, it made me even more interested in the idea of the Warriors acquiring a stretch five.
02:00Not because Quinton can't do some things going forward, but just that look, that look on the floor looked like something the Warriors could really use.
02:09What did you think?
02:11Yeah, you know, especially, you know, this year, because, you know, offensively they're challenged right now.
02:17And they don't have the shooting they've had in the past, where in the past, it didn't matter if the five wasn't a, you know, a pick and pop guy.
02:25He could dive to the rim.
02:27He could get a dunk.
02:28He could get a lob.
02:29And so, yeah, with this year's team, it looks a little different.
02:33It stands out when you see a big do that.
02:35And the other thing, you know, and maybe not for this year, maybe a little bit next year, but down the road, what I was impressed with last night with Post was there was no deer in the headlights moment.
02:47You know, he was out there.
02:48He was just playing ball and got into the flow of things.
02:51And yeah, he had a couple of things he liked to do a little bit better.
02:55But to me, the things he could do better are things he can work on.
03:00And I really liked his poise for the most part last night.
03:04When you watch that, Tim, and it's a little bit of a different experience, obviously, than the championship years.
03:10But you look out there and it's closing with Guy and Quinton and you've got Lindy at times and, you know, Buddy in the corner and whatnot.
03:18Is it is it tough to really watch?
03:20I know you enjoy it and you love the team and all the rest of it, but you're watching Steph Curry trying to go out there and and do it with a lot of players who are wildly inexperienced.
03:30Is it is it frustrating to see as a as a fan and as a broadcaster?
03:35Well, you know, you you don't want to give in to the temptation of thinking, what if, you know, injuries are injuries and when you're without, you know, Draymond, Kamiga, Pudzemski, Kyle Anderson, that's, you know, three year top eight, probably right.
03:49And then maybe if you throw Kyle in there and before your top 10 or 11, so that's hard to overcome when you're playing a team that's fully healthy and has firepower like the Kings do.
04:01So, yeah, it's it's frustrating, but it's also the way it is.
04:05So and every team goes through this at some point, you know, and every championship team goes through what the Warriors are going through right now.
04:14And so, you know, it's a very tough position to be in.
04:20But on the other hand, you know, the the glass half full of me will say, well, yeah, but I do get to watch, you know, Steph Curry try to figure it out.
04:31And how many people get a chance to do that?
04:33Yeah, I like I think everybody gets that as far as just the Steph Curry experience and where it is in this given moment.
04:41I wonder what what the vibe is.
04:43What do you feel in this moment, for example?
04:47Here's a statement I made earlier.
04:48When the Warriors are up 17 at half, that's not like what I used to know to be a Warrior 17 point lead at half.
04:55In other words, that would normally mean I think they are highly likely to win.
05:00Now, with the way this team scores in the final five minutes of games, I look at a 17 point half lead and I go, well, they'll have a chance to win this game in the end.
05:10It'll be close.
05:12Like, do you sort of have that same feeling as you're coming into the second half of games that those Warrior warts are going to come out at some point?
05:23Well, what you what you worried about and what you're talking about is a an offensive lull, and they went through that and the Kings got back into the game.
05:32There's two things going on here.
05:33One is the Warrior offense isn't where you want it to be, where it should be, so on and so forth.
05:40And then B, you know, everybody in the league is shooting threes now.
05:45And so what that does is that a 17 point lead is probably maybe during the championship run was probably like a 12 point lead or a 10 point lead.
05:54And, you know, where it wasn't totally safe.
05:57And so now teams can come back a lot quicker.
06:01I mean, we'll look at the runs that happened last night in almost in succession, like a 9-0 run for the Warriors, a 10-0 run for the Kings, 8-0 push for the Warriors.
06:10And it happens in like a minute.
06:12OK, and that's because of the three point shot, because you can add points very quickly.
06:17And so I think any kind of a lead, you know, unless you've got a 30 point lead, I don't even think a 20 point lead is safe in this league anymore.
06:24And so, you know, but but especially with a team that is struggling on the offensive end, because that that's where you need.
06:32You know, the the things you need to win games are things like like that are things the Warriors are getting an easy buckets and free throws.
06:42They don't get to the rim enough and they don't have a guy that can break down the defense and penetrate to the rim and they don't get fast break points and they don't get, you know, free throws.
06:52And so those are the things that stave off runs.
06:54When you get a fast break, get a bucket, you get a pump fake, get a guy at a free throw line.
06:58Those are the things that can kill a run.
07:01And right now, the Warriors don't have that in their arsenal.
07:04And when you watch the offense and it gets a little bit stagnant, I can't help but think about Dennis Schroeder and how he's struggling to adapt to the warrior way offensively.
07:14When you watch Dennis now through a dozen and a half games or so, what do you see that he's doing well in other areas where maybe they need to integrate him more?
07:25Well, I think what he's doing well right now is is he's taking ball handling pressure off Steph and you know that when Steph's off the floor, you have an NBA class point guard on the floor and, you know, he can get guys and get guys shots by just his penetration.
07:42I, I think, you know, for Dennis, I think he's almost trying too hard to fit in at times.
07:48You know, I almost like say, just go, just go play, go do what you do.
07:53And and I think I think he's trying to fit in.
07:56And let's face it, you know, he just hasn't shot the ball well.
07:59And I think once, you know, he can get a couple of games back to back where he's shooting the ball.
08:04Well, I think we'll start to see the guy, you know, we saw in Brooklyn earlier this year.
08:08And I hope that happens for him because, you know, he's really giving them a good effort on defense.
08:14He's probably, you know, right now, especially with Draymond out, he's one of their best defenders on the ball.
08:20And no question of the guard line, he's the best defender on the ball.
08:23So so he's doing a lot of other things.
08:26I just think, you know, it at times I think he's trying to fit in too much.
08:30I think he just needs to go and do his thing.
08:32Tim Roy, voice of the Dubs with us, Willard and Debs, 95-7 the game.
08:36Tim, Brandon Podjemski should be returning for this game, at least we think.
08:42What would you sort of say about, A, what that will add to the team?
08:46And B, what has been, in your words, the Brandon Podjemski experience this year?
08:54I think that there's a, you know, I think of any second year player, I think there's a little bit of an adjustment because,
09:01you know, teams study tape in the offseason, they look at different, you know, especially if you're in the division or in the West,
09:06you know, you're going to play the Warriors a few times, you're going to have somebody break down that tape.
09:10And they, you know, they probably are countering some of the things that he likes to do.
09:16And so I think that now he has to make that adjustment.
09:19I think a lot of second year players have to do that.
09:22And I think the other part about it is, I think, you know, again, I think at times he might have been trying a little too hard to do things.
09:32And if he just goes out and relaxes, he has very good basketball instincts.
09:36We know he has good footwork.
09:38And so I think when he goes out and makes the right decision and just, you know, plays within the game, that's where he's really effective
09:47because he makes the right play, he makes the right pass, and that's where he stands out for Golden State.
09:53So I'm hoping that, you know, especially with this time off, it's given him some time to watch and to think and to kind of imagine himself
10:01back into the meat of the offense and on the defensive side.
10:05And so hopefully this time off will be a good little mental break for him and he'll come back and be the kind of player, you know, we know he can be.
10:14I mean, we saw it last year.
10:16He can be a very, very effective player.
10:19And without Draymond Green, they need his grit a little bit in there.
10:23And one guy I've been impressed by, Tim, just the way he comes in and makes things happen is Guy Santos.
10:29What has been your impression of the way his game has kind of blossomed here out of necessity?
10:36Well, if he hit a couple more threes last night, he's going to be three Santos, you know.
10:40Thank you. And I'm still waiting for a D-diculous when he hits a big three.
10:46Well, we'll wait on that one. That may have to be a game winner.
10:50Okay, I appreciate that.
10:51But, you know, I think he's got a real chance.
10:55You know, I had him on a postgame, I think in Detroit, and he gave me this great answer.
11:01I asked him about where he sees, you know, his role with the team.
11:03He goes, look, I just want to be in the NBA.
11:05I'll do whatever it takes to stay in the NBA.
11:08He goes, the ball's on the ground.
11:09I'm going to go on the ground and get the ball.
11:11You know, if you need me to rebound, I'm going to rebound, shoot, I'll shoot.
11:14You know, whatever it takes.
11:15And that's a great answer because you can tell he really wants it.
11:19And what's cool about him is he's got size, he's got a little toughness,
11:23and his confidence is growing with each, you know, appearance on the floor.
11:28And I thought last night he was really good for a while in that game.
11:31You know, everybody kind of melted down a little bit in the third quarter,
11:34but I thought he was pretty good.
11:37And I think he's a player now that Steve can go to with confidence,
11:42knowing he's going to get something out of Guy.

11:59We're hanging with the voice of the Dubs.
12:01None other than Tim Roy as he arrives at Chase Center
12:04to go against the Bulls later on tonight.
12:07You'll hear it all right here on 95.7 The Game.
12:09Tim, we've been playing one of your calls
12:12along with Tommy on the road last night.
12:14When Steph pulled up...
12:15Tommy on the road? What an upset.
12:17How about that?
12:17What an upset.
12:18Come on, man.
12:19Yeah.
12:19Like out of nowhere.
12:21And then I really thought the commentary between the two of you
12:26when Steph pulled up from over 30 feet down by two
12:31with a minute and a half to go was fascinating
12:34because to me, it signaled a guy
12:37who had almost reached the level of exhaustion
12:40trying to find an open shot by going through the offense.
12:44How did that play resonate with you?
12:48Well, I think, you know, Tommy, I think nailed it.
12:50He said, it looks like that was a shot of frustration
12:54that he hadn't been able to get a shot
12:56and he was just looking to get a shot
12:58and the game was starting to go the other way.
13:01And so I think he just got a little anxious about it
13:05and wanted to hit a shot to kind of get, you know,
13:08things back going the Warriors way.
13:10So, yeah, you know, it's frustrating.
13:14And let's face it, you know, if the Kings play them that way
13:19and you got Draymond, Kuminga, Pudzemski,
13:22you've got a full squad in that game.
13:24That's totally different then, you know,
13:26because say if they double team, you know,
13:29Steph and Draymond pops out, he gets the ball.
13:31He knows what to do when it's four on three.
13:33Okay, he's got to find the open guy
13:35or try to make the player get the ball to the rim.
13:37And so, you know, and Kuminga can get an angle
13:42and slash off of that if it's four on three.
13:44You know, Pudzemski can make a play off that.
13:46So I think if they had a full squad last night,
13:49they could have made Steph's life a lot easier.
13:51And I think the Kings might have had to
13:54back off that coverage a little bit
13:56because I think the Warriors would have made them pay.
13:58And I think that's where the frustration came in
14:01was that he was getting double teamed all night
14:03and coming down the stretch, they weren't able to execute
14:06to make them pay for that double team.
14:08And you look at the deadline, Tim,
14:10which is a little less than two weeks away,
14:12two weeks actually from today at noon.
14:15Is it your sense that it's not so much
14:17about exterior acquisitions as it is
14:21getting the players healthy?
14:23If they get everybody healthy,
14:24do you think that that's enough for them
14:26to make a playoff push still?
14:29Yeah, I think so because, you know,
14:31look at their record right now.
14:32They're right there.
14:33I mean, they're right in this pack of about,
14:36you know, six NASCAR, you know, cars, you know,
14:38and they're all like, you know,
14:39trying to get in line here and, you know,
14:42wait for the last two laps.
14:43And then everybody's going to try to run to the finish.
14:46And so I think, and Robbins Racing did,
14:51just so you know.
14:51Of course.
14:54So I think they have more than enough
14:57on the roster right now.
14:58I think they'd like to get better,
15:00but I think what you can take some assurance in
15:03is that, you know, from what everybody has said,
15:06they're not going to make a move just to make a move.
15:08And they're not going to make a move
15:10that doesn't make sense,
15:12not only for today, but for tomorrow.
15:15And so I think that's, and I think that's a really,
15:18you know, good thing to have,
15:19because you don't want to make a move.
15:21You know, if you're going to make a move for today,
15:23it's got to be a move
15:24that's going to push you toward the top
15:26and give you a chance to compete for a title.
15:28And I don't think this year that moves out there.
15:32And, and, and it could, it could be out there.
15:35You never know.
15:36Deadline day does crazy things.
15:37Teams all of a sudden change direction,
15:39you know, in just a drop of a hat.
15:41But, but I think that, you know,
15:43the saying is, you know, right now is like,
15:45hey, we're not going to make a move to jeopardize anything,
15:48you know, two or three years down the road.
15:50It just doesn't make any sense right now.
15:52And so I think that's a really smart,
15:56measured way to, to take that in,
16:00as opposed to pushing all your assets
16:02and try to get somebody who may not get you to a title.
16:05Tim, do you think that the Bulls and Warriors
16:08are potentially a good match on a conversation?
16:10Uh, you know, I, I, I guess, you know,
16:15the, the, the matches you have to make,
16:17and I know you guys play with the, uh,
16:19the trade simulator, which is always fun.
16:21Yeah, we were there about an hour ago.
16:24Um, but you know, so it, the way you find out if it's a match,
16:27if, if you can make contracts work,
16:30because really it's, it's about trading the contracts
16:33so that everybody stays, you know, within the cap rules.
16:36And so, um, so if you look at the contracts,
16:39the Bulls have, and look at the contracts,
16:41the Warriors have, then you can play around with it
16:44and see if it, if they're going to be a trading partner.
16:46I think they could, you know,
16:47anything can be a trading partner in a minor deal
16:49because a low salary deal.
16:52Uh, but I think the, the bigger this salary goes,
16:56I think the less likely partner, uh, for Golden State,
16:59just because, you know, you don't want to, again,
17:01you don't want to gut your team to make a move
17:04unless you're, you know, uh, you know,
17:06unless you're getting a prime Michael Jordan coming back.
17:09Tim, uh, go have a good call.
17:11We'll be hearing your voice here in a matter of hours.
17:15Well, you know, as, uh, we, we like to say on, on,
17:19on, uh, Warriors, we'll endeavor to persevere tonight.
17:22I like it.
17:23That's a good, uh, it's a good endeavor.
17:24Make sure that, as you're delivering.
17:26I stole that, yeah, I stole that from Chief Dan George
17:29and, and Chief, and, uh, Josie Wales.
17:32I did steal that line, so.
17:33Okay, yeah, I, you can have it.
17:36And, uh, and this is, this is the stretch, uh, Tim,
17:40where right, not only at home, but I, I would, I would say,
17:44I know I don't want to assume anything with the Warriors,
17:46but there's a stretch of games that, uh,
17:49maybe they can make a move here.
17:52Yeah.
17:52You know, I did, especially they can get, you know,
17:54I, the, the, the problem is, you know,
17:56Draymond coming in, they're going to be reevaluated
17:58Sunday and Monday.
17:59And even when they're reevaluated because of the types
18:02of injuries they have, they still have, you know,
18:05rehab looking at them in the face.
18:07So, but then getting Podjemski back, being Kyle Anderson back.
18:11Yeah.
18:11I think they may have a chance to get pile up some wins here
18:14and, and maybe, you know, start to climb and,
18:17and give themselves a chance before they go on the road,
18:20you know, to, uh, to put themselves in position.
18:22They can get to the all-star break and be a little bit
18:25farther up the ladder.
18:26You know, I really like where they are at this point.
18:29They're, they're not, you know, they're only like three
18:31backer, I think it might be three or four back in the
18:33lost column to the number five spot.
18:36So there's plenty of time to get a half of a season left.
18:39So I still think there's a time for them to write the ship
18:42and get it going and, and, and start climbing the ladder.
18:45If you will.
18:46Okay.
18:46We, uh, we look for it to start tonight, Tim.
18:48Thank you so much, my friend.
18:51All right, guys.
