00:00It's the middle of the week, I love open-ended conversations, go where you want to go.
00:07And we thought that we would welcome each and every one of you fine listeners, 95.7
00:14The Game, to almost play a Warriors version of what we do on the Friday crossover every
00:22week which is called What's Bugging You?
00:26And just put out to you that question, what is bothering you about the Warriors right
00:32now?
00:33888-957-9570, what is bothering you about the Warriors?
00:40And therefore, it's kind of like what you just said, this allows each and every one
00:44of you to go wherever the hell you want.
00:49I will say this, I'll say a few things, we all will, we've got four hours, but I will
00:55say this, pound for pound, that was the most disappointing night of the year for the Golden
01:02State Warriors.
01:03I'm not going to say their worst game, their worst performance, they've had plenty of them,
01:08but for the entertainment dollar that we use, knowing that that was Jimmy Butler's return
01:16and everything that went into it, the time and space in the schedule as you get down
01:20to 10 games left, that was the most disappointing night on the entire Warriors schedule so far,
01:27for me, bar none.
01:31So coming off of that, we ask you, what is bothering you about the Golden State Warriors?
01:38And Dibs, here is my answer, they are getting very, very good at excuse making.
01:44Now part of that is just the way that you handle public personas, it's how you handle
01:49microphones, you don't use brutal honesty in front of microphones, you don't come out
01:54after games and go, well, our very best player's not here, and we kind of suck offensively
01:59without him, so, shrug shoulders, oh well, you don't do that, because it sells people
02:04down the river, even though I think that that is a huge part of what's going on.
02:09But what's really bothering me about this team is the constant flow of, we weren't ready
02:15to play, we're getting the other team's best shot, somebody on the other team always goes
02:22off, Quentin Grimes went off, Aaron Gordon went off, took an epic performance, and so,
02:31you know, what are you going to do, that happens sometimes in the pros, it's a steady flow
02:37of these things that are all built to mask the deficiencies that the Warriors clearly
02:44have, especially when their best player's not on the floor.
02:47So what's bugging you is the excuses, it's just the constant, maybe not constant, but
02:53the stream of excuses, and I'm glad you pointed that out because I can't help but think in
02:58my mind the juxtaposition of the Draymond Green sound when he was on TNT at the All-Star
03:03Break and he got, you know, he said it with his chest, he stood on it, he stood on business
03:07and said, we're going to win the championship, and at the same time, last night, his comment,
03:11and I'm paraphrasing, I don't have the soundboard in front of me, but it was basically, you
03:16know, everybody gets up for us, when we come to town, it's their championship game, so
03:21you can't, in my opinion, have it both ways, you can't be a championship team and also
03:26say, well, other teams get up for us because, you know, we're a ten-year dynasty and so
03:33that makes it really hard for us, that to me was about as soft as it gets from Draymond
03:38Green.
03:39Would you like to hear the comment you're referring to?
03:40I would love to hear it, yes.
03:41Would you like to sing about it?
03:42Like to hear it?
03:43Here it goes.
03:44Let's go.
03:45We just gotta, we gotta make sure that we are approaching every game like we're playing
03:46against the best team in the NBA, because that's who teams turn into when they play
03:47us.
03:48You know, they play out of their minds.
03:49This team, they're 17 for 25 for 3 or something like that?
03:50It's crazy.
03:5118 for 25?
03:52It's crazy.
03:53But, in saying that, it's the NBA, everybody got talent, so, you know, whether they have
03:54not, you know, they're not a team with a winner-take-all, they're a team with a winner-take-all.
03:55So, you know, we gotta make sure that we are approaching every game like we're playing
03:56against the best team in the NBA, because that's who teams turn into when they play us.
03:57Well, I think I could say it a different way is that if you don't guard people, they're
04:19gonna hit shots.
04:20They're NBA players.
04:21Yeah, exactly.
04:22If you've ever watched an NBA player warm up, they hit most of their shots because nobody's
04:25guarding them.
04:27You know what I mean?
04:28If you watch Steph Curry warm up, you're confused why he goes into the game and never misses.
04:32He doesn't miss in warm-ups.
04:34Sometimes.
04:35It's pretty rare.
04:37He's way above 50% from 3 when he's warming up, but then there's defense on the floor,
04:43and that changes the entire structure of it, and obviously the amount of leg and effort
04:47and everything that you need in order to succeed when someone's trying to stop you is completely
04:52different.
04:54And I want to say this now very, very clearly.
04:57I want to say this.
04:58It's not that the Warriors won't guard you.
05:02It's that too often they can't, and that's what I don't hear, and again, I understand
05:09why, but I'm allowed to be bugged by it.
05:12I understand why the Warriors aren't just gonna go to microphones and be like, well,
05:15we're deficient in a bunch of areas, especially when we're not whole.
05:22So I guess the larger point that I would make about whatever's about to happen with
05:26Warrior basketball, do not expect it to go anywhere unless everything is perfect.
05:33Everything is going to have to be perfect.
05:37Perfect health.
05:39Perfect schedule.
05:40Perfect opponent.
05:42Things are going to have to fall perfectly in place if the Warriors are going to make
05:46the playoffs and then maneuver in the playoffs.
05:50If by any stretch, anybody thinks that a hangnail for one of their best players that
05:55knocks him out for two games, that's it.
05:59That's the end of that playoff series, in my opinion.
06:02They are going to need to be absolutely 100%, perfectly healthy, in their flow, hot shooting
06:11from the right people, role players, all of that.
06:14When that happens, they're very good.
06:17But when any warts show up, this is just another team.
06:20You need Wardell to show up.
06:22Forget the warts.
06:23If you don't have Wardell, then you're not going to be anything close to 100% perfect.
06:26I feel that way about Jimmy, too.
06:28We've seen them with Steph and no Jimmy.
06:30Not good enough.
06:31Right.
06:32If Draymond's out, not good enough.
06:34That's the thing.
06:35Right now, you look at last night's a good example.
06:37No Steph because he's still hurt.
06:39All right, Jimmy.
06:40Revenge game.
06:41Jimmy, this would be the time that we would love it if you would shoot it 22 times and
06:45at least try to take over.
06:47He was very docile.
06:48Draymond Green, I said it before, later last week, earlier this week, he needs a night
06:54off.
06:55Well, you know what?
06:56You had a couple of nights off in Miami and yet you came out and he does not look like
07:00the DPOY to me.
07:01Offensively, he looks a little bit lethargic.
07:04The rest of the guys, yeah, you need Quinton to be clicking.
07:08You need Buddy to knock down a few.
07:10You need Pods and GP2 and Kavon.
07:12You need your others to all step up and play their role.
07:16Last night was an example where nobody did.
07:19Pods was pretty good.
07:20Kaminga off the bench, he was good.
07:22I wouldn't say he was great.
07:23Kaminga was, he was fine, to use your word, but what bugged me the most about last night
07:29and we're taking calls on what's bugging you, 888-957-9570, what's bugging me is the fact
07:35that you came out flat.
07:36You had a game on Saturday and last night I got home and I watched it and I rewatched
07:42what I missed on the drive home and you didn't play with a lot of enthusiasm.
07:46You were a step slow.
07:47Can I ask you something about that though?
07:50That's part of what I'm getting at.
07:52We came out flat is sort of suggesting, well, we're clearly, we're clearly better than the
08:00other team, but we came out flat as opposed to no, this is what you have right now.
08:08Like do you want to know what would have changed that game last night?
08:12I think Moody had three wide open threes in the first eight possessions.
08:16He missed them all.
08:17Yeah.
08:18If he hits two of them, we got a different basketball game, completely different basketball
08:22game.
08:23And it's just hard for us to reason with because it's not like a big enough answer, but you'll
08:29see this in the NBA a lot.
08:32Role players play better at home.
08:34They just do.
08:36It's really where the home field, home court advantages is baked.
08:40That's where it is.
08:42I know what Steph can do.
08:43He can put up 56 at Orlando and 50 at MSG, and he's one of the best players of all time.
08:48Jimmy will travel.
08:49Draymond usually travels, but does Moses Moody travel?
08:53Does Quentin Post travel?
08:55Does Brandon Podjemski travel?
08:57Are you hitting those shots on the road?
08:59That's why you can fall down by 22 in Brooklyn against a bunch of, I don't know what's, but
09:04it has.
09:05So like, I'm not saying you're wrong, but when I hear that we came out flat, it sort
09:10of sounds like what I've always called a Serena Williams press conference, which is
09:15every match, and she's not wrong, she's the best ever, but every match is about her.
09:20It just, did I play well or did I not play well?
09:23And it's never about what the opponent might have on that given day.
09:27Like they've been woefully outplayed all eight quarters on this road trip so far.
09:32Right.
09:33Period.
09:34And that for me is something that should travel.
09:35The ability to defend, defend the three, play with enthusiasm, play with hustle and
09:40heart.
09:41And you watch that game.
09:42You fell behind early because you, you weren't out there getting into people and yeah, they
09:46hit some big shots.
09:47They hit some tough shots, but there was a whole lot of open threes and a lot of situations
09:52where guys either were confused on defense or over helping or under guarding, whatever
09:58it was.
09:59Those are the things that, I'm sorry, those travel.
10:02If you're a good, hard-nosed player, it doesn't matter if you go 0 for 9.
10:06Like Moses Moody, tough night shooting the basketball.
10:09You can still go out there and contribute and play well and play hard and I didn't see
10:13that from them last night.
