00:00Now, back to Stiney and Gurum on 95.7 The Game.
00:05All right, it's crossover time.
00:08That means it's brought to you by Atko Pest Control.
00:11No, hold on.
00:12It's, oh, God.
00:13Hey, Isaiah Thomas has me flustered.
00:15Shut up, Ken.
00:17What happened?
00:18Should have just given him a kiss.
00:19The crossover is brought to you by Abundant Life Weight Loss.
00:21They know the secret to losing up to one pound of fat every day.
00:25Go to AbundantLifeWeightLoss.com.
00:28That's the crossover.
00:29Willard and Dibs in the house.
00:31What's up, gentlemen?
00:32Why does Zeke have you flustered?
00:33Well, he almost got the station canceled.
00:36Dropped an MF.
00:37I never walked into a room and said, I'm the leader, I'm the lead dog, I'm the bad and
00:41all that.
00:42Yeah.
00:43I mean.
00:44Let's go.
00:45What's wrong with that?
00:46You dumped it and you move on.
00:47Like, have we not?
00:48No, Ken.
00:49Solid job.
00:50No, Ken was on it.
00:51Of course.
00:52Way to go, Ken.
00:53And we've all had guests who have, you know, bombed away.
00:55When you get that second bomb in the next answer that gets a little bit dicey.
00:59I want to say that Cedric Cornbread Maxwell is a guy who might be footloose and fancy
01:05free with the language.
01:07That's true.
01:08But you know that before he comes on.
01:09Right.
01:10You get two dumps.
01:11You get two dumps.
01:12Rick Barry will throw the S-bomb in there.
01:14OK.
01:15Yeah.
01:16Yeah.
01:17He will.
01:18Have any of you ever cussed on the air?
01:19Not me.
01:20Yeah.
01:21That felt like a lie.
01:22You were here.
01:23Yeah.
01:25I said the, uh...
01:26I don't give a...
01:27Yeah.
01:28S-H.
01:29Yeah.
01:30Oh.
01:31I said it to you, too.
01:32Remember?
01:33You always say that to me.
01:34No.
01:35We've been on a roll.
01:36It's been a couple years now, but you got hot.
01:37If I brought a cookie now, would you eat one?
01:38Yes.
01:39No.
01:40OK.
01:41Not from you.
01:42It's my favorite.
01:43This ought to be good.
01:44Any cussing on the air?
01:45I think so.
01:46Yeah.
01:47On a Saturday show, actually.
01:48I think I let one slip.
01:49Oh, you waited for the weekend.
01:50That's smart.
01:51There's so many.
01:52Me and Dan will just start riffing about whatever.
01:53Right.
01:55I'll let one go.
01:56It'll happen.
01:57Casey Schmidt.
01:58I swore in the most ridiculous, innocuous, and stupid way, because Mark's, like, doing
01:59a thing, and he's like, we're going to go through it in alphabetical order.
02:00And I said, oh, Schmidt.
02:01Like, I had no reason to use the S word.
02:02I was expressing nothing other than some profanity.
02:03This is actually going to be in alphabetical order.
02:04Oh.
02:05It just comes out.
02:06That's actually when it happens.
02:07Yeah, that was tough.
02:08I actually...
02:09Oh.
02:10I'm one of those people.
02:11I'm one of those people.
02:12I'm one of those people.
02:13I'm one of those people.
02:14I'm one of those people.
02:15I'm one of those people.
02:16I'm one of those people.
02:48Let's go live out to the ballpark.
02:49Oh, boy.
02:50The Southern Oregon Timberjacks are in town.
02:51Let's check in with Rob and Mark.
02:52And Rob was doing the hit, and while he was sitting there kind of doing whatever the hell
02:53we do pregame, I grabbed the other headset and, like, whispered into the microphone,
02:54bullschmitter.
02:55Oh.
02:56You're a bullschmitter.
02:57Oh, no.
02:58But what I didn't know is that the microphone was just turned up.
02:59Oh, no.
03:00Oh, no.
03:01Oh, no.
03:02Oh, no.
03:03Oh, no.
03:04Oh, no.
03:05Oh, no.
03:06Oh, no.
03:07Oh, no.
03:08Oh, no.
03:09Oh, no.
03:10Oh, no.
03:11Oh, no.
03:12Oh, no.
03:13Oh, no.
03:14I didn't know that the microphone was just turned up just a little bit.
03:18Not hot.
03:19Not hot, but it was warm.
03:20Oh, boy.
03:21It was warm.
03:22Just enough.
03:23Yeah.
03:24Yeah.
03:25And then I got sold down the river by the guy back at the studio instead of somebody
03:26like, you know, warn somebody off-air, let somebody know.
03:32Somebody doesn't realize there's a hot mic.
03:34He literally, when it goes back to him, he goes, hey, Rob, it sounds like Mark's right
03:38next to you and does not realize that it sounds like there's some profanity coming out on
03:43the air right now.
03:44now. Speaking of games actually. Fly ball by Castellon. That's gonna be a home run.
03:51Bill King actually got ejected for that. Yes he did. And it got leaked out over the air
03:55because back, I forget what season it was, but reading about it, apparently, and this
04:02was struck from the tape, but he turned his mic off to curse out an official, which he
04:08then got ejected for. The only play-by-play broadcaster, to my knowledge, has been ejected
04:12from a game, but he didn't turn the crowd mic off. And so the crowd mic picked up every
04:17single word that he uttered that night to some official and they had to go in and chop
04:23the tape to make sure that it never made its way into the records. So shout out to great
04:29Bill King. Yeah, the legend. You know, for me growing up, it was, uh, you know, Warriors,
04:34A's and Raiders and the whole thing. And you know, back then it was radio. You didn't get
04:38every game locally on TV. And so if you wanted to follow your team, you turned in your AM
04:44radio and you tried to like move the antenna. Holy Toledo. And you got Bill King on, you
04:51know, just about everything East Bay. And so yeah, getting a chance to meet him a couple
04:57of times fairly late was like, it was beyond goosebumps. It was like, I can't even really
05:03speak. That's awesome. Yeah. You know, it's like a handshake and it's like, you know,
05:07so, so Bill King, the legend. Kind of like how you sounded when you called us Thursday
05:12from Vegas. I'm not going to disagree. I got a text from Stiney and, uh, well, I don't
05:19know what the words were. No, his words were like, I think, wow. And I was like, wow, what?
05:25And like an hour later he responds with, uh, you're calling. And I'm like thinking to myself,
05:32my, my, my calling, my calling, my calling. Have I found my calling? I mean, you wanted
05:38me to be Lucy Goosey. It was a Lucy Goosey era. I thought you nailed it. I didn't swear.
05:43I thought you nailed it. That's for sure. We don't even know what you said. It doesn't
05:46matter. All I know is, uh, there were a couple of buckets that went against me and make sure
05:50that I was allowed in the sports. You were talking to three different people at the same
05:54time. That's what it was, right? You were talking to us. Yep. You were talking to the
05:58TVs and talking to myself. Well, then four, because then you were also talking to the
06:03people that seemingly you kept bumping into, which made me wonder why you were so mobile
06:08on this phone call, like sit down, but no, no, you were moving through a place that had
06:13no elbow room, apparently a sports book. Yeah. And, and so you're having just a lot of conversations.
06:19And the thing about me going, uh, to Vegas for March madness is I meet people. And when
06:25you meet people, you bond with people and you're either with them or against them. And usually I
06:30try to find the people who I'm with. And it's like, you become friends for three days and it's
06:34kind of fun. Uh, no, but there's some, uh, social media activity with my group from Texas tech,
06:40Texas text. I met a, uh, that's the way to do it now, by the way, that's the soft, like,
06:46I don't really want to commit to getting each other phone numbers, but I'll follow you on
06:50Instagram. Every girl denies me. Just follow me on it. It's private by the way.
07:01Anyway, go ahead. There's like four or five of these 23 year olds from Texas tech. And so,
07:06you know, they were fun and they're so young and, you know, wet behind the ears and all the rest of
07:11it. So I tried to impart a little bit of knowledge and they're a great group, you know, I think it
07:15was three guys and two young ladies. And it was completely like, you know, they're looking for the
07:19OG for advice. Cause what I was telling them is this is our 35th year of doing it. Me and all my
07:25friends from college. And it's like their first or second year. And, and I was telling them,
07:29it doesn't matter if you win your money line, better not. It's like, this is the thing. Like
07:34you show up every year, you see your friends that you don't see all year and you do this.
07:39And so I was trying to use the wisdom, right? Not if Tennessee covers the 18 and a half, even
07:43though he had a five grand on Arkansas on the money line, which, which hit, which was nice.
07:49Which is funny. So it's him and his two buddies and, you know, they got five grand on Arkansas
07:54money line and it looks like it's about to win and come to find out in the closing moments,
07:59here come their two lady friends showing up right at the time that Arkansas is going to cover that's
08:04perfect. Five grand on the money line and I'm like, ah, where did you two come from? Yeah.
08:08Did all the guys sit down and act like they did not have any action going or did they keep
08:12celebrating? Yeah. And I think everyone knew what was the money. What was the line? Five
08:16grand like one 75. So it turned into like, you know, seven large 7,500. I don't know exactly
08:22where they got it, but you know, he and I, this young man, we're talking about it and he's like,
08:26I'm going to do it. I said, do it, do it, bro. Do it, do it. And this, uh,
08:32you like it. You said Texas tech. So this isn't, you have connections to the Texas A&M.
08:39I did. Yes. But he's now actually on the coaching staff of the New York jets. Oh,
08:43so my old neighbor, you know, Cameron Davis, the guy that was with the lions. Correct. Got it. So
08:49it was my center fielder in high school. Exactly. So he and I have mutual friends, his classmate,
08:54my neighbor, he made his way all the way up to the lions. And then last year it ended the way
08:58it ended. And then Aaron Glenn went on to leave the, he was defensive coordinator as the DC.
09:03So he left DC and he goes to the jets and he took with him a large number of the staff,
09:08including our friend, Cameron Davis. Yeah. I don't know what position he's going to. He was
09:12the same D line coach again, assistant D line assistant. Yep. Yeah. So he went from Detroit.
09:17Now he's in New York and he's like, yeah, he's, I mean, he's keeping it moving. And so Aaron Glenn
09:23liked him enough to where, and you know how this works, where a coach gets promoted as head coach
09:28and he takes as many of his little stafflings as possible. Is he still your neighbor? No. Okay. No,
09:33no, no. I was going to say like, he's moving the family with him each time, right? Right. And I
09:37mean, this is when he was a kid, but I moved into Oakland. He was nine. And as the moving truck
09:42pulls up, this kid comes up and the moving van opens up and he's like, can I have your bike?
09:48Can I have the skateboard? Can I have those frogs? And my ex-wife Chanda, she's just given stuff
09:53away. I mean, she's just given things away. And all of a sudden now you've got, you know,
09:57the full neighborhood, all these kids are like, you know, can I have this? Can I have that?
10:01I'm like, no, that's mine. You can ask Chanda if she's going to give stuff away. And she did.
10:07And so he's now, what, he's got to be 30? Yeah, he's a couple years older than me.
10:12And you're 30, right? Yes, I am. So, I mean, this is, we're going back 23, 24 years ago.
10:17And this young man's come all the way up. So. You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and
10:23HD1 San Francisco, always live on the free Odyssey app. And now broadcasting from the
10:28Laughing Monk Studios. Laughing Monk, righteously brewed in San Francisco. Hey, San Francisco.
10:35San Francisco. Was his name Ira Winderman? Winderman. Okay. Ira Winderman. Yes. He was
10:41pretty good, wasn't he? He was fantastic. He was awesome. He's great. He was fantastic. But,
10:45and for anybody who's just joining us, this is what, a columnist in Miami? He's covered the
10:50heat for 37 years. And so, right. And he had a big personality. And I thought he very, very well
10:56spoken at this point. No, no, no. No, no, no. There's just an observation. Okay. Very, very
11:01fun. Listen, first and foremost, I think maybe, actually, I don't know if I told
11:06Grandy this. I'd like to get a couple of the things he said to play back to everybody.
11:12Because what I kept hearing was somebody who was like, I know he's fitting out there in golden
11:19state, but right. This is who Jimmy is. He does this. And I'd go, I'm okay with that. Yeah. But
11:28he does this. Totally okay with that. And then he'll do this to your organization. And every
11:35time I was like, totally okay with it. So in other words, this whole idea of Jimmy will implode your
11:41organization. It sounded like that was how he feels. But every time he'd tell a story about
11:46something Jimmy did, I'd be like, that's fine. Why? What's, what's wrong with that point in
11:51case in point, the missed plane flight, right. That Jimmy had with the Miami heat.
11:58Correct me if I'm wrong. Iris said earlier in the year, he missed a flight.
12:02He told SPO, I have an event I need to be at. So I'm going to take my own flight,
12:07but I'll be there at shoot around in Milwaukee on time. Yeah. And the heat said, no problem.
12:13Then later in the year, now people aren't getting along and the losses are piling up. Right. So
12:18Jimmy says the same thing and the heater, like, no, you have to fly with us. And Jimmy said,
12:23screw you. I'm doing it myself. I'm on team Jimmy. That's the heat change in the rules.
12:29You move the goalpost. He also mentioned that there were games where Jimmy just simply wasn't
12:34trying. And so for every story that's on Jimmy's, like, I agree with you. I thought he was very
12:39fair. Like he was, this is where the heat messed up. This is where Pat Riley was wrong. This is
12:43also where Jimmy has to take some ownership. Like you standing in the corner, acting like
12:47a three point shooter, shooting 22 percent is not going to help your team. And you're doing
12:51that on purpose. That's where I can understand someone watching those games saying, yeah,
12:57I mean, that's it's not exactly professional, but that's a little bit more of an opinion.
13:02I bet Jimmy would be like, right, like you weren't trying is different than you missed the plane.
13:08One of them is a little bit easier to say is a fact. Well, I look at it and I don't
13:14I, you know, I don't know. I mean, I, I was, you know, I have a lot of respect for him. So
13:19if he thinks Jimmy was up to something play, you know, it was like it's like when Durant had this
13:23last year and he wasn't shooting and people actually were like, oh, he's working on his
13:27other part of the union. Everything's fine. Well, it wasn't. But it's like when Kobe wouldn't pass.
13:33Yeah. The thing, you know, anyway, the thing about Butler and the more I think about it is
13:37where Draymond and Steph really come in. I think it's this. I'm trying to envision this. So there's
13:43a player. He's the best player in your team. And but he's he separates himself from the team
13:49a fair amount. All right. So he's he's not with the team in the hotel sometimes. And he's
13:55kind of is just not as embedded as another player. So then when he comes onto the team,
14:01he's their biggest, you know, personalities, their best player. He
14:06it all revolves around him. And maybe there was a perception that
14:10was not even invested because he's not even here, but he's got the big personality coming in
14:17when he's practicing. But then he's leaving and we don't see him on the plane. And that's where
14:22but he's not the best player here. But is that how he acted for the whole six years? Yeah,
14:26I don't know. That's the person doesn't seem like it. I don't watch it. Yeah, I don't know.
14:31Well, because if he did and it was like fine to act that way when you're leading us to the NBA
14:37finals, but now suddenly we're annoyed with you because we're in a negotiation. Now you need to
14:43start acting different. If that's if that's what the Heat did, the Heat are wrong. I think there
14:49was some disconnect between Jimmy wanted to win and he also wanted he wanted more help. But Riley
14:57is a stickler. I mean, there's I think there's a report out there. They were interested in Lillard
15:00when he was available going from Portland and he wanted to go there. He wanted to go to Miami,
15:05but Riley didn't want to give up any of their young players, which is obviously what Portland
15:09was looking for. And so Jimmy saying, well, you're not giving me enough help to show you I can get
15:15you to the promise, like to the edge of the mountaintop. But I need some help to get over it.
15:21And you're not giving me that. And now you're saying that I'm not even a max player. Well,
15:26to hell with you, like I'd be a max player and I'd be a championship player if you would just get me
15:31a dude, a running mate. But I'm busy dragging Tyler here on Bam out of Bios first five years.
15:37And this is the best that I can do. So I could see some disconnect between
15:41Jimmy wanting just to be like Steph was saying, in those meaningful moments,
15:46playing meaningful basketball, the Heat not giving him the best opportunity to do so
15:51and then blaming him for not being available and saying, well, I'm still a max player.
15:55It's interesting when you look at the game log based on what your guest had said and what we
16:00all know about Jimmy, because I'm looking at a game against Detroit over time. He plays
16:04forty four and a half minutes and he goes for thirty five and a loss. The next night he plays
16:09seven minutes and 19 seconds and doesn't score. Then he's suspended for five games, comes back
16:14for two, mostly ineffectual, non participatory. Then he's out for seven games, comes back for
16:21three, plays OK once and not great twice, gone again. Then he's traded. So clearly the breaking
16:28point for me is that game against Detroit, where he plays forty four and a half minutes of fifty
16:33three. He goes for thirty five. He's a plus eleven. They lose in overtime at Detroit. And
16:38then four days later against OKC, he plays seven minutes and then that's basically it for his
16:43Miami tenure. Look, outsider view, you know, we're not there. I threw all of this as he goes back
16:49there tonight. I have failed to see what the caught red handed absolute no no is that Jimmy
16:57committed. I still don't know. To this day, I know he walked out of a practice. Sure. They
17:02kicked him out of games practices. They suspended him. Like I'm not saying it's all Miami's fault.
17:08I'm saying two people weren't getting along. Two people were fighting and both of them acted on
17:13that. But this idea, Jimmy implodes everywhere he goes and blows the organization up. And
17:20I heard Iris say it. He he imploded their season and grenade in the locker room and grenade in
17:26the locker room. I didn't hear it. I haven't heard it yet. I have not heard conduct detrimental.
17:32Well, but again, two to tango. Obviously, Pat Riley drives a very hard bargain when it comes
17:37to this stuff. This is a man who took cookies from LeBron James. So I think we could also argue
17:44that you have a micromanaging mega boss and that's not great, too. So I'm not saying Jimmy's
17:51perfect. I'm just I still have not heard what this awful thing was that he did.
17:55Well, correct me if I'm wrong. So I didn't sound like I was saying that he's perfect. He's just
17:59saying that it's going to work until it doesn't. And then everywhere he's gone, there's a reason
18:06why. And to me, money's been at the center of all of it. But I don't know. I mean, I was like,
18:12also, he's going to be awesome because he's paid. He's bought in and this team is competitive. So
18:18he said there's no reason to to worry about Jimmy now. It's just that'll be for down the line.
18:23Yeah. Oh, and I like the way I look at Jimmy Butler in the war. I don't think anything's
18:28going to happen this year. Like they're going to go as far as they go. But I I will. Like when
18:35next year rolls around, I do feel like, well, now everything starts over with Jimmy Butler.
18:41Like kind of like now we'll see if there's anything there. We're going to see it next year.
18:47And I don't know if there's anything there. Yeah, I don't think there's anything there.
18:51And I read this later piece again in The Athletic today and just some of the things that he was
18:55talking about with Jimmy. And, you know, even the quote about Steve Kerr has two non-negotiables.
19:01One, show up on time to compete to win. And if you're Jimmy Butler and you're allowed to like
19:07fly to Miami and be with your kids and as long as you're back on time, that's OK. Like no questions
19:12asked. And if you're Steph Curry and you want to play 18 holes or 36, that's fine. Or if you're
19:17Kavon and Moses Moody and you want to do yoga, which apparently is like jogging yoga that they
19:23do, we learned years ago, do what you need to do and be ready for practice. And so that combined
19:29with the fact that, you know, Jimmy Butler's quotes in that article about, you know, Steph
19:33Curry being the nicest guy on and off the floor and Draymond being a dog and Jimmy wants to win.
19:39Jimmy wants to be able to do what he wants to do and he wants to get paid. For me,
19:44those three boxes are all checked. He got paid and he's with a team that's won way more than
19:48he ever will. Jimmy Butler will never win four titles unless Steph and Draymond get eight,
19:53you know, so which is hilarious. But so Jimmy wants to win. They've done it. Jimmy wants his
20:00freedom. You've got it. Jimmy wants money. You got it. I don't see where this could possibly
20:05go south unless he gets through next year and it's like, I want another extension. I'm just,
20:10I'm not the only one. I'm a big fan of everything starting over when a new relationship happens.
20:17You know what I mean? Like this is a weird comp maybe, but everybody made a big deal yesterday
20:22about that tweet from, from Tiger Woods and, and what, like he's now officially in a relationship
20:30with Donald Trump Jr's ex-wife and hold on a minute. Yeah. You didn't know about this is all
20:37his proposal started with, Hey, maybe it did, but like he sent out pictures of him laying on
20:43by a pool together. He's a tiger. His love is in the air and all this stuff and people
20:50and she has, I'm going to need a cabinet position, right? And so she like a lot of people
20:54are coming at her cause it's like, well, wait a minute. You left Donald Trump Jr.
20:59Cause he supposedly cheated and now you're picking tiger. And my thing was like, hold on.
21:05It doesn't know brand new relationship. We start over, we start over. And if you want to say she's
21:14stupid, if he ends up cheating, fine. But bottom line, you start over just because he did that
21:21once or a billion times doesn't mean that that's going to happen this time. Start over same with
21:27the warriors and Butler. Some would say that, uh, cheaters cheat. And if you cheat once,
21:33you're going to cheat again. And that is, I don't believe, do you believe that? Yes, you do. Yeah.
21:38I believe that you can't shake. I'm not saying it's genetic, but there's no growth, but I do
21:45believe that when you have exhibited that behavior, you are more likely to do it again. I don't really
21:51like to have a name in my head, but I bet there's a good number of people who make that mistake
21:56in their whatever, twenties or thirties or whatever, and then go the other way and have a
22:01wonderful monogamous relationship. I would say it's more likely that somebody who cheats is going
22:08to cheat again, as opposed to the, I've learned my lesson crowd. I'd like to hear from Stiney
22:12because your face is just doing all kinds of great stuff right now. It is weird. Like you're
22:16making an exception on his diet. So he's well, who doesn't cheating on my diet? What do you mean?
22:24Come on. Cause you know, we weren't going to go have one. Yeah. And then guys, before we go,
22:30Randy and the staff back there, they have found the number one offender in cursing on the air
22:38in the we're coming up on 14 years here at 95, seven of the game. I've been here for almost
22:43all of them, except the one year where I was let go back in March of 2011. I remember that. Yeah.
22:47Actually it was 2014 and you don't, here it is the number one swearing moment in the history
22:54of the game. It was more horn hit him. And I mean, he hit him hard. And I told Derek,
22:59get your ass up. I was like, get your ass up. And I said, Nate, call the same plate.
23:05And the fishers knew I was mad. And he tried to come in. I say, you guys didn't do nothing.
23:10And I said, call that same place. And I promise you any of these mother touch Derek McKee,
23:15I'm going to break somebody's jaw. And so Xavier McDaniel on the roast,
23:21the uncomfortable Bonte laughter is my favorite part. I mean, I mean, what do you do? What do
23:27you do when that happens? My favorite part is the description of, uh, from Xavier McDaniel about
23:32what was going to take place. If any of you individuals touch him, I'm going to emphatically
23:38break your jaw. And I put my own words in there, but it's not, do you remember Xavier McDaniel?
23:43Sure. A little before your time, which is all state. Yeah. And then Seattle,
23:48they had a team, uh, Evan back in the, uh, you know, I'm just kidding. You're so astute. I have
23:53to tease cause you're so young and I'm envious. Oh, let's uh, we're looking forward to that game
23:57tonight. Four 30 start three 30 warriors live from now. Yes. And, uh, I mean, you know, the deal
24:06people keep it locked. Bye. I'm 95 seven. The game. There you go. Correct.
