00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10We've got Joanne on the phone this morning for Military Monday and we're honoring her daughter, Angela.
00:15Good morning, Joanne. How are you?
00:17Good morning. I'm doing great. How are you?
00:20We are great. So let's talk about Angela. Tell us how she serves our country.
00:23She went into the Marines for five years and then she got out because she started having kids.
00:31And the first child that she had, she got deployed two months after having the baby.
00:37Oh, wow.
00:37Yeah. So I had to take the baby for nine months.
00:41Wow. She had a baby and then two months later left and then she was gone for eight months, did you say?
00:46Yes. So she missed the beginning eight months, which is crazy.
00:50Oh, my gosh. How tough is that?
00:52It was a little rough, but we all, you know, dealt with it and, you know, I have awesome kids.
00:58I have six kids. We all chipped in to take care of this baby until she got back home.
01:03Wow.
01:03And her husband got deployed at the same time. So this baby was without a mom and a dad.
01:08Wow.
01:09Oh.
01:10Well, Joanne, you sound like a very strong woman and obviously Angela making sacrifices so that she can keep us safe over here as she is deployed.
01:18I mean, that's amazing. And I guess that is just the reason we do this, Military Monday, is to honor military members like your daughter, Angela.
01:26Now, she joined right after high school. Is that right?
01:30Right after high school. Yes, she did.
01:32What do you think her calling was when she wanted to join the Marines? I mean, what do you think drove her to this?
01:36What inspired her was her brother went first.
01:40Gotcha.
01:40And he graduated. Then the following year, she went right after him because she's always been inspired by him.
01:48And kind of in a little competition with him, too.
01:51But, you know, as she was warned that it's harder for girls, and it was harder for girls, she would call me and tell me,
01:59Mom, I'm not getting promoted because I'm a girl that literally told me that.
02:03But she fought and fought, and every time she would get promoted and get promoted.
02:07So, you know, she's a fighter.
02:09I love this.
02:10She sounds like an amazing woman. Obviously, she was raised by a good woman as well.
02:14No, listen, I'm very proud of all my kids and her also because she still keeps striving and striving and striving, and nothing stops her.
02:23Well, speaking of nothing stops her, now she is in school?
02:27No, now she teaches for a school because she was a deputy and, you know, having two kids.
02:33So now she teaches in the same school they go to, and she works for the FDLE, too, you know, part-time doing alcohol and tobacco checks.
02:44Wow.
02:45So, Marines, okay, deputy, teacher, Mom, I mean, Angela is doing it all, and we are so grateful for that.
02:54No, listen, she inspires me to keep moving and moving and moving, you know?
02:58So, you know, I am very proud of her, very proud.
03:02And now she's getting ready to donate a kidney also.
03:05Oh, my gosh.
03:07It just doesn't stop with this woman's sacrifices.
03:09Holy cow.
03:10No, yeah, she thinks about everybody else.
03:13Joanne, we want to do this for Angela.
03:14We want to give her a $100 gift card from our friends at Stingray Chevrolet.
03:17And, again, I can't say what a small thank you this is to her for all the sacrifices she's made
03:23and what an amazing person she is in our community, and we're so grateful for her.
03:26So please give our love to her, give her our thanks, and we appreciate you so much.
03:31I appreciate you, you know, saying and honoring her.
03:35It is our pleasure.
