[Up close: AsiaOne chats with voters] Join AsiaOne as we find out about the key concerns of residents in the renamed Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.

Marine Parade GRC was one of the tighter races in GE2020.

00:00As the estate ages, access to different places is key.
00:06The Thompson East Coast Line has played a significant improvement to the transportation network.
00:12However, there are still gaps.
00:18Hello, I'm Hans from Asia One and we are in Marine Parade,
00:22part of the renamed Marine Parade Brattle Heights GRC.
00:25If you recall, Marine Parade GRC was one of the title races in GE 2020.
00:31Will the possible exit of Minister Edwin Tong and departure of former Speaker Tan Tran Jin,
00:37as well as the absorption of the People's Action Party Stronghold McPherson, affect the vote split?
00:43Let's have a look at the issues that are top of mind for voters living here.
00:48My biggest concern is the cost of living.
00:51Currently, I'm working as a part-timer, so it's very hard for me to support my children.
00:58I hope that the government could actually help out and then continue with the rebates and all.
01:04There's been a lot of apprehension about foreigners and Singaporeans losing out
01:10or not being able to secure very affluent and good jobs.
01:15So, I strongly believe that taking care of Singaporean interests and jobs and lifestyle will be very important.
01:22One of the most pressing issues that I have is just outside my house, there is two walkways.
01:28So, one is a pedestrian walkway, another one is a cyclic pathway.
01:32And I have PMDs just using my pedestrian walkway.
01:36And as a pedestrian, I feel very insecure.
01:38There are enforcement, and I do appreciate the government taking a very active approach about it.
01:45But I believe that more can be done, especially where we are living.
01:49There is elderly and there is young children, and we won't want anyone to get hurt.
01:55Getting to Bedok from Renpere, there are still certain gaps within the public transport node.
02:01And I hope the WeCare transport can help plug that gap.
02:07But the hours and frequency could be extended to be convenient for young families.
02:12So, young families will be in the evenings as well as weekends.
02:16Something very worrying, you know, that has happened over the few years is they have placed a lot of fencing.
02:22I imagine it's for a better use, for safety purposes.
02:25Being in Marine Parade, where the citizens are very old, making them walk so long just to reach, let's say, a mama shop.
02:33Again, I'm happy that the fences are outside in the main road.
02:37Just don't block the interlinked society of Marine Parade.
