Shrewsbury 0 Cambridge 1 - Ollie Westbury analysis
Transcript
00:00It's another day, it's another game, it's another disappointing Shrewsbury Town defeat
00:06as they are beaten by Cambridge United 1-0 here at Shropshire at the Crowd Meadow. The
00:13Hughes, who are one place above Shrewsbury in the League One table, they occupy Shrewsbury
00:17at bottom, they occupy the place above town, they have done the league double over Shrewsbury.
00:22I think it was Garrafinchie's second game in charge where they thumped them 4-1 early
00:26in the season and today they have beaten them 1-0. Michael Appleton's side are continuing
00:32to try and play and we saw that from them today but unfortunately it was a disappointing,
00:37well yet another disappointing result. It took an hour for Shrewsbury to eventually
00:43have a shot in the game. Both sides were incredibly, incredibly poor. Town are trying to play more,
00:51they're trying to do more on the ball, they're taking it in tight spaces and some of their
00:56play close to their own goal is okay and they manage to break through and they get into
01:03some really good positions but the quality in the final third or around the edge of the
01:07area or in the opposition's half is absolutely atrocious and they just cannot seem to get
01:15anything going. The disappointing thing is it's not like they need to bend one from the
01:19edge of the box and put it in the top corner, that's not what anyone's expecting but it's
01:23just simple four or five-yard passes but the basics they just seem to be not being
01:29able to get right. It's a really, really poor performance from Shrewsbury today. The fans
01:35are here, they're watching, it's a home game and they've just not given them enough to
01:38shout about on home turf. They'll be really, really disappointed going home, Shrewsbury
01:44fans, that their team have just not offered enough. There was a brief moment when Taylor
01:49Perry and Luka Hall came on, they made a bit of a bright introduction when they were
01:54brought on by Michael Appleton but other than a Luka Hall chance after Shrewsbury went behind,
02:00there was very, very little for the home side to shout about. The goal came because Jamal
02:06Blackman, and most people missed the goal because we were busy writing about a chance
02:10that had happened moments before, but Jamal Blackman gave the ball away, a bit of a horror
02:14show from the town keeper who has done a lot of good things since his arrival back
02:18in December but this is not going to be something that he has or wants to remember any time
02:24soon. A horror show from him, gives the ball away in a dangerous area and unfortunately
02:29for town, next thing you know it's in the back of the net. The question now, when is
02:34relegation going to be confirmed, when can they be put out of this misery? The sad thing
02:39is that relegation is not going to put anybody out of their misery because even if it happens
02:44on, I don't think it can happen Tuesday night on Reading but I'll do the maths, but if it
02:48happens at Lincoln, there'll still be four games that they've got to play and it's a
02:51pretty sorry sight that there's going to be so much football left to play this season
02:55and Shrewsbury are going to have their fate confirmed. We head back to Shropshire on Tuesday
03:01night for another game and let's hope that Shrewsbury can put in a better performance
03:05in that one.
