00:00Here at Lantern Academy today, I'm speaking to a couple of pupils who are having a great time outside on the lovely tyres you've got.
00:07Guys, what a fantastic school you've got here in Telford. What do you love most do you think, each and every one of you?
00:14Seeing Kate and Fiona at lunchtime, when we're allowed the equipment on the playground.
00:21Okay, what about yourself?
00:24Pretty good. I think I like most of it because I like sort of the lessons and places just going outside.
00:33Okay, what about yourself?
00:35So for me, my favourite lesson is math because I like doing the quiz and problem solving and drawing. That's all I like for lessons.
00:46And one of your teachers said that you have a lot of visits from people coming in to inspire you and lots of trips.
00:53Are there any interesting ones that you've been on recently you want to tell us about?
00:57We went to Shrewsbury Prison in Shrewsbury when they were old and people got executed because it was part of my history lessons.
01:08Well that sounds great. And you're the head boy I've noticed as well. How much have you enjoyed that role?
01:15Pretty good. We get to, like in assemblies, we get to build it all up. And she's head girl but she's got a bag.
01:30What have you been doing as part of that role?
01:33For head girl, I've been showing visitors around us with the deputy head girls, Miss Barney and Miss Gilmore.
01:42They told us, we had deputy head boys and deputy head girls inside our class to show us around and help us to succeed.
01:51And finally, you're in year six aren't you, the pair of you. Are you going to be sad to leave when you do in the summer?
01:56Yes.
01:57Yeah, I'm sure you'll miss it a lot. Well thanks guys, that's been great and we wish you all the best in the future of course.
02:01Michelle, what a wonderful school you have here in Telford. First of all, tell us what you love most about it.
02:06Well, obviously the children. The children always come first at our school so they are the things that make our school what it is.
02:13And we've just been in a special little unique room that you've got, a great facility where parents are invited to come in and learn with the children. Tell us about that.
02:22Yeah, so family learning is something that we've been trying to set up for a while. So we're on our second family learning course.
02:28So the first one was healthy food, cooking, so that the families had a meal to take home at the end of it.
02:35This one really involves the children. It's all around arts and crafts, so the children get to spend some time with their families.
02:42Oh that's brilliant. Another special thing we've noticed and seen around is the great sand hubs you have here. You're big on that aren't you?
02:48Yeah, so we've got a very high percentage of children that are on our special needs register. 37% of our children are on the special needs register.
02:56We've also got 6% of our children that have an educational health care plan, which means that they need something a little bit different to a normal mainstream classroom.
03:06So we've developed two sand hubs which really support their needs, utilising some of our staff's amazing skills that they've got.
03:15Yeah, now you've been here since the Trust took over in 2022. How have you seen the school develop and grow since then?
03:21Well, the first thing is the extensive work that the Trust have invested on the building. So we've had almost a million pounds spent on updating the building.
03:30We've developed our own curriculum. Our data is improving year on year and our children are leaving here with really good education.
03:39And are you big on having a real connection with the community that you're in here?
03:43Yeah, a real big connection with the community. So for me it's all about making sure that our community get what it is that they need.
03:51We've got an excellent relationship with our parents and the wider community, the parish council and all sorts.
03:57And finally, something to celebrate recently, you've had a fantastic Ofsted report as well. I can only see you smiling. How delighted are you with that?
04:06Absolutely delighted with all of the staff. We've got a great team here and every single one of them has put so much work and effort in to get the results that we did.
04:15Yeah, it's fantastic. Well, congratulations to you. Fantastic school and thanks very much for having us.
