A county MP has called for the Government to ensure Market Drayton is provided with "proper funding" to improve sports facilities in the town.

Speaking in a House of Commons debate today (April 3), North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan told the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport that the Conservative county council "wont provide any Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding".
Transcript
00:00Market Drayton, in my constituency, has really poor grassroots sports facilities for a town
00:07that serves more than 12,500 people. Shropshire's Conservatives will not allocate any of the
00:12still money from the significant recent development there to improving the facilities, so will
00:16the Secretary of State meet me to discuss how we can get proper funding in to provide
00:19Market Drayton, Shropshire's third-largest town, with the sports facilities it deserves?
00:23I am sorry to hear that she is not receiving the support that she needs, but we are absolutely
00:27determined to provide it to her and any other Member of this House that is a champion of
00:31grassroots sports facilities. I know that sites in Market Drayton have been awarded
00:35grants totalling over £6,000 through the multi-sport grassroots facilities programme,
00:40but we are also very aware that there are huge numbers of people, particularly young
00:43people, who want to get involved in sports, and we will work with her to make that a reality.
