00:00Man, this is a thing, getting lunch shamed at work.
00:03This is a thing.
00:0499.5 QIK.
00:05It's Mark and Melanie, Tampa Bay's morning crew.
00:07So, I don't bring my lunch to work.
00:10So, I don't really know this.
00:11I guess I could get breakfast shamed.
00:13But you bring your lunch to work and then people shame you for what you did or didn't bring?
00:17No.
00:18So, that's what lunch shaming is when you're a kid.
00:21Right.
00:21It starts when you're a kid.
00:22Remember, someone would have the cool lunchable pizza one and then you would have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or whatever and you'd get shamed.
00:29Yeah, or like there's two kind of Cheez-Its, right?
00:31There's the real Cheez-Its and then there's those other Cheez-Its that just come in a red box and they just say...
00:36The Chez-Its.
00:37Something like that.
00:37Yeah.
00:38Yeah.
00:38We know.
00:39That's what I'd get lunch shamed for.
00:40Well, so, yeah, it starts way back in the day when you're in elementary school and now it's moving on into people's adult lives.
00:48But people aren't criticizing what you're eating.
00:50It's the fact you're actually taking a lunch at work.
00:53So, a new study came out saying that less and less people feel like they can leave.
00:58Even though everybody has their hour for lunch, less and less people are leaving because they feel like they're being shamed either by coworkers, they're being judged, or by their boss if they're leaving and going and eating lunch.
01:12So, people are eating at their desks.
01:14Yeah.
01:14So, bosses probably like that, right?
01:16Yeah.
01:17You don't have to leave and you're not, like, having fun, going somewhere and having fun.
01:22But the study goes on to say that actually it's backfiring because even though you're there and you're still getting some work done and you're eating your lunch at your desk, ultimately you're more productive and a happier employee when you have that mental break and you go to lunch.
01:36Yeah.
01:36You get to go out and see the world and get some fresh air.
01:39Yes.
01:40And then, plus, you're more excited to eat something that you order and it's, like, made right there for you as opposed to a ham sandwich that you made last night that's been sitting in the back.
01:50You know what I mean?
01:51Oh, absolutely.
01:52If you had a ham sandwich versus going to Chili's with some of your coworkers, obviously you want to do that.
01:57Oh, you just got Kevin excited.
01:59You said Chili's.
01:59He's ready to go.
02:00He loves Chili's.
02:01He's ready for Chili's.
02:02Chips and queso.
02:03Let's go.
02:04The morale's already up.
02:06The morale's through the roof right now.
02:08Kevin, you love Publix for lunch.
02:09You'll go over to Publix and eat lunch?
02:10Yeah, I definitely like their subs.
02:12I will grab their lunch meats.
02:13Actually, I will bring it back here.
02:14I do have a little fridge here and then make my sandwiches here.
02:17Yeah.
02:18Kevin, if anybody.
02:18I'll eat at my desk.
02:19That is so all-American of you.
02:21Like, you'll go and buy all the meats, the cheeses, and then he makes it here.
02:25Of course.
02:25Like my mom.
02:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:26That's pretty good.
02:27So, Kevin, would you care at all if someone gave you crap for leaving to go get stuff for lunch?
02:33No.
02:33Although, it has happened because I'll come back and I have my Publix bags because I'll put them in my fridge.
02:38It looks like you went grocery shopping at lunch and he comes and takes it.
02:42But, yeah, people have said stuff to me about it.
02:45Like what?
02:46Just, you know, I don't know exactly.
02:50Where'd you go?
02:50What are you making?
02:52You know, the reality is you're being resourceful and financially responsible.
02:55You save more money when you do it that way.
02:57Yeah.
02:57100% because I'm spending $20 for a week.
03:00A week.
03:00A week.
03:01As opposed to going to get a sub for eight, nine bucks once you get, like, chips in a chip.
03:04Every day.
03:04Every day.
03:05Right.
03:05But I will say the sandwiches you make are no Pub subs.
03:08I agree.
03:09I've seen your subs.
03:10They're fine, but they're not.
03:12They're not a public sub.
03:13No.
03:13You're correct.
03:13Nobody subs their public subs.
03:14I would shame you for that, but.
03:16That's okay.
03:17I deserve that one.
03:18No, no, no.
03:18It's fine.
03:19I'll make it up for it.
03:20We'll go to Chili's today.
03:21Yes.
03:21I'll make it up for you.
03:22We'll do some happy hour, too.
03:23That's how you do it.
