00:31U.S. President Donald Trump's 10 percent baseline tax on all imports announced on Wednesday
00:37began this Saturday.
00:39Trump's tariffs have triggered an escalating trade war and caused global markets to fall.
00:45The move, called reciprocal tariffs, is a key campaign promise and aims to reduce the
00:51trade gap by increasing taxes on foreign goods.
00:55The money from these taxes goes to the U.S. government to help pay for services.
01:00Trump wants to use this money to fund U.S. tax cuts, which analysts say would disproportionately
01:07benefit the wealthy.
01:08The 20 percent tax on European products could actually lower prices in Europe due to increased
01:14supply from China and within the EU.
01:17According to the World Trade Organization, U.S. tariffs are generally lower than those
01:22charged by other countries.
01:25Next week, highly, these are set to begin.
01:31Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across 40 cities in Spain to demand
01:35solutions to what they call the country's housing model crisis.
01:39The mass protests mark a milestone as they are the first to be held simultaneously in
01:45many locations a decade after the mass protests against evictions.
01:50Organizers of the protests, a coalition of tenants' rights and NGO groups, accused the
01:56government of turning housing into a business model with the slogan, Let's end the housing
02:01business.
02:02Organizers have called for compulsory rent reductions and the construction of more social
02:08housing.
02:09Rents in Spain have doubled in the last 10 years due to the country's history of real
02:13estate speculation and the lack of new and completed affordable housing.
02:20The government estimates it needs to build at least 600,000 new apartments to get a handle
02:25on what it calls a social emergency.
02:31Italy's Five Star Party called for a rally to protest against the EU's defence spending
02:38plans on Saturday.
02:39Leader Giuseppe Conte said that in a time of economic difficulty for many families,
02:46the idea of spending huge amounts of money on armament is unacceptable.
02:51Conte called the rally to oppose the rearmament plan promoted by the Italian government.
02:57The Green, Left Alliance and a delegation from the Democratic Party also joined the
03:02demonstration.
03:06Russia continues its Black Sea clean-up operation in the Kerch Strait after last December's
03:14oil spill from two storm-stricken Russian tankers, according to footage released by
03:20Russian authorities.
03:22The fuel oil spill of at least 3,700 tonnes happened in mid-December in the strait, which
03:29separates Russia and Ukraine's Russian-occupied Crimea.
03:34Two Russian oil tankers were caught in a storm.
03:37One broke in half and sank, while the other ran aground and also leaked oil.
03:42Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that more than 418 kilometres of
03:49shoreline have been cleared, over 154,000 tonnes of polluted sand and oil have been
03:55collected and an estimated €913 million has been spent on the clean-up.
