01:32The first ever EU-Central Asia summit, where the EU's Antonio Costa and Ursula von der
01:36Leyen were present, has concluded after two days of meetings in the Uzbek city of Samarkand
01:41with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
01:47In today's international context, the importance of a functioning rules-based multilateral
01:53order cannot be overstated.
01:58Our meeting today encourages even more EU-Central Asia cooperation in multilateral fora, reinforcing
02:08our shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous global order.
02:15Promoting the new strategic partnership between Central Asia and Europe, Commission President
02:19Ursula von der Leyen said she believes this will lead to new opportunities, especially
02:23in the energy, tourism, trade and transport sectors.
02:26A strategic location can open global trade routes and investment flows, and these new
02:34investments will enhance sovereignty.
02:38They will strengthen your economies.
02:41And most importantly, they will make new friendships.
02:45At the Samarkand summit, the EU sent out a key message that they want to be a big
02:49economical player in the region of Central Asia, and they are willing to put big money
02:55on the table in order to do this.
02:57The 12 billion euros investment plan is focusing on climate action, water management, infrastructure
03:04and mining.
03:06These are areas where European companies are traditionally very good, and they are now
03:11hoping for new contracts.
03:13In terms of geopolitics, the EU also had a clear message.
03:18At the times when Brussels is facing trade war from the west and land war from the east,
03:24they got a new partner in a strategic location, Central Asia.

03:47Yun Suk-yo was impeached by the National Assembly in December, with his presidential power suspended
03:54after he imposed martial law, triggering the country's worst political crisis in decades.

04:21Anti-Yun protesters welcomed the verdict with cheers at a rally near the old palace,
04:28while outside Yun's official residence, his supporters chanted angry slogans, calling
