Do you think young people today are struggling more to find jobs, and could we end up with a ‘lost generation’?

00:00I do want a job because I've got three nieces and they have all found employment.
00:09I think a key to this is apprenticeships. There needs to be a bridge, I think, between
00:16black and white unemployment and black and white full-time or even part-time work.
00:21I think it is, genuinely. It's very, very difficult and it has been for years and it's,
00:25you know, I think maybe too much of an obsession on academic learning and not enough on vocational
00:30development.
00:33Younger people need to be given the opportunities to experience the world of work and blub them
00:38in what it's like rather than pitch them into a job that, although they might have all the
00:44qualifications for, they might not be very confident in doing and have a bad experience
00:47with it.
00:49We would say, well, you become a chippy or an electrician or something like that and
00:55you go and work but people aren't doing that anymore so I think it is hard for the kids.
