00:00:40in any country and have welcomed measures taken by Bangladesh's interim government to
00:00:45ensure safety and security for all in Bangladesh.
00:00:49That's what we're watching, that's what we expect, and that will be what continues.
00:00:55So that's the big news coming in.
00:00:56And remember days since Tulsi Gabbard, who was in India briefly to meet Defense Minister
00:01:01Ajit Oval and others, had also said that she's aware about the anti-minority violence in
00:01:08Bangladesh, it's concerning.
00:01:10Now America says we are watching carefully what's happening in Bangladesh and we welcome
00:01:16any security measures being done.
00:01:41Investigation is intensifying in the Nagpur riots case.
00:01:43What happened on March 17th evening, cops have now said, as the Maharashtra cyber cell
00:01:49is tracking the latest on that, we've identified provocative posts related to the riots.
00:01:54We have issued notice to take down and any information of the posts coming in.
00:01:58Basically, I quote from what the Maharashtra cyber cell is saying, we've identified a few
00:02:02people who posted provocative social media posts and they are being sent notice.
00:02:08Remember that there was some rumor mongering, misinformation campaign that was led about
00:02:13something that was burned possibly by the Hindu groups in the protest.
00:02:18By evening, while Hindu groups had gone back and dispersed, by 7 p.m. this is what happened.
00:02:24A mob appeared starting to vandalize parts of the city, attacking even houses, homes
00:02:33and you can see the number of people out on the streets with sticks and rods and much
00:02:38worse.
00:02:39Vidya joins me on the phone line for the latest on that.
00:02:42Vidya, tell us how the Maharashtra cyber cell is leading the investigation on this
00:02:48and what are they looking into?
00:02:50Well, there is an issue that the Chief Minister himself had pointed out wherein he had stated
00:02:56that this entire mob violence had started after social media posts wrongly stating
00:03:05that there was a chadar that was burned, a tomb desecrated that has led to this entire
00:03:12mob and the way the mob had, you know, went around rampaging wherein they attacked policemen
00:03:19and even tried to, as he said, you know, police cops were molested and they even tried to
00:03:28strip off.
00:03:29That was not right and that's one of the reasons why the police is taking strict action against
00:03:35those people who have, you know, vandalized and went around creating such a ruckus in
00:03:42this city and that's one of the reasons why the Chief Minister very clearly stated that,
00:03:50you know, everyone will be identified even if they have to be brought in from wherever
00:03:55they are hiding.
00:03:58And that has to be a state call that irrespective what community, group, anywhere they would
00:04:04be, nobody should be allowed to indulge in mob violence and disturb law and order on
00:04:09some random issues in which the mob can suddenly emerge and look at that violence and aggression.

00:04:17We'll be tracking how Maharashtra government and the police ensures that this is never
00:04:22repeated again in the state.
00:04:26So here's what has happened in the latest.
00:04:28Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has given a stern warning to the writers who
00:04:32you see on your screens.
00:04:34Speaking in the assembly, Fadnavis said, no rioter who attack the police specially will
00:04:39be spared.
00:04:40The Chief Minister has added, the rioters will be punished even if they have to be dragged
00:04:43out of their grave or wherever they are hiding right now.
00:04:46Fadnavis said that there was a rumor on the burning of an effigy and that a holy chadar,
00:04:53a holy chadar with regard to how the Muslim community perceives it was being burnt and
00:04:59these rumors were not true because many believe that it was because of some rumor like that
00:05:04that suddenly led to aggressive members of the Muslim community who came out on the streets
00:05:09and then the arson violence that happened.
00:05:11This comes however after shocking details in the FIR that reports and just remember
00:05:16many of them have come forth are cops, women personnel from the police force who said that
00:05:23the mob molested tried to strip a woman cop as well, possibly multiple women cop.
00:05:30Rioters according to the FIR were making lewd gestures, chanting hate slogans and hurling
00:05:36petrol bombs on the cops as well.
00:05:39If this was such a spontaneous protest, how did the petrol bombs suddenly come forth?
00:05:44Opposition however has hit out questioning law and order situation in Maharashtra under
00:05:47Fadnavis accusing the state of fanning communal flames over Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
00:05:53Eight rioters of the Bajrang Dal who had surrendered to cops were let off within few
00:05:57hours after the court granted them bail.
00:06:54In Nagpur, there is a MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party, there is a house of the Chief Minister
00:07:03of Maharashtra, there is a house of a big central minister.
00:07:08After that, even though they have all the power, if there is a riot going on, then either
00:07:13they have a big question on them that there can be such a big riot in the house of the
00:07:18Chief Minister, then the state is not safe.
00:07:20If this is not happening on their instructions, then it is a question.
00:07:24But one thing is to be thought, why does this happen where the government of Bharatiya Janata
00:07:30Party is?
00:07:31Why doesn't it happen elsewhere?
00:07:38I have news coming in, in the gold smuggling scandal allegations that have come in in Karnataka,
00:07:42the DRI cracks down on the drug smuggling at the Bengaluru International Airport, seizes
00:07:48cocaine allegedly worth 38 crore rupees.
00:07:51Cocaine remember is a hard narcotic substance and clearly of course not permitted.
00:07:56But the manner in which over 38 crore worth rupees of cocaine that has been accessed and
00:08:03has been seized by the DRI.
00:08:05The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials have said that over 3 kilogram of cocaine
00:08:11which remember 3 kilogram is not a massive amount but it is the worth in terms of money,
00:08:16over 38 crore rupees.
00:08:18And we are told that he is a Ghana national and was caught at the airport, accused has
00:08:23been identified, arrived in Bengaluru from Doha in Qatar.
00:08:27Based on a tip-off, DRI officials conducted a thorough inspection and realized there was
00:08:33the contraband.
00:08:34This is a woman national we are told, a woman who was carrying these drugs and what was
00:08:41the intention?
00:08:42Sagai Raj joins me for the latest on that.
00:08:44Sagai to bring all of that into India.
00:08:47This is not a very small amount either.
00:08:493 kilogram given the kind of protocol against is a massive amount and plus the money that
00:08:55comes with it.
00:08:56Tell us more about this crackdown.
00:08:58Now what we get to learn is the accused has been identified as Jennifer Abe and she is
00:09:05a Ghanaian citizen and she had travelled from Bengaluru to Doha, Qatar and based on a tip-off
00:09:13from DRI officials, they conducted a thorough inspection and discovered the contraband in
00:09:18her position.
00:09:19And if you notice, this comes after a huge discovery from the DRI when it comes to gold
00:09:27smuggling racket of Rania Rao.
00:09:30And this time they have found around 38.4 crores worth of cocaine, that is around 3.186
00:09:36kg that this lady was carrying with her position.
00:09:42And the DRI which had first found out this much of cocaine and now she has been arrested
00:09:49and trying to ascertain what is the smuggling racket of her, who are the suppliers and they
00:09:55are trying to find out the nexus behind this particular cocaine racket.
00:10:01Alright, so that's a, remember a big amount in terms of money worth breaking the guidelines
00:10:08and protocols and but was it just for her?
00:10:13Clearly not.
00:10:14Was there a bigger nexus that the DRI will be looking at?
00:10:18But remember Karnataka of course has been in the headlines for different reasons and
00:10:24in the latest there is this 4% reservation for minority contractors for government tenders
00:10:31that will be discussed in the assembly.
00:10:33So expect fireworks.
00:10:34The Bharatiya Janata Party already attacking Siddharma Government accusing that this is
00:10:38appeasement politics.
00:10:39Why would you have a religion based vote bank and specifically with this regard and that
00:10:45this is just for Muslims?
00:10:46Questioning why did the Congress not work for the upliftment when the UPA was also in
00:10:50power.
00:10:51But the Congress has hit back at the BJP accusing the party of remaining silent on the creamy
00:10:55layer quota suggesting BJP instead was appeasing their own vote bank.
00:11:00Now the amendment, remember this is important, the amendment sought by the SCST contractors
00:11:05include a separate provision for them in the quota policy.
00:11:09Raise the tender eligibility limit from 1 crore to 2 crore rupees.
00:11:1317.15% quota for the scheduled caste.
00:11:176.95% quota for the scheduled tribes in tender below 1 crore.
00:11:23Permitting OBC contractors to participate in specific tenders.
00:11:28So in many ways a caste based quota coming in for government tender projects.
00:11:35Objections are misconceived because this does not in any way affect the reservation given
00:11:44to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe in contracts.
00:11:48In addition to the earlier reservation that the government had provided in contracts to
00:11:54scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, we have now put in a proposal to provide for reservation
00:12:01to backward classes.
00:12:02Now these backward classes includes category 1, category 2A, category 2B.
00:12:08Therefore, whatever percentage of reservation that the backward classes are entitled to
00:12:13presently in the state of Karnataka, in terms of that percentage of reservation, these backward
00:12:19classes will be entitled in contracts.
00:12:22I urge, I demand Chief Minister Siddaramaya, he should learn lesson from Chief Minister
00:12:31Umar Abdullah.
00:12:32He has openly appreciated Central Government, Narendra Modi Government and Nirmala Siddaram
00:12:38for helping J&K to come out of the economic crisis.
00:12:43So what is the state of affairs in Telangana?
00:12:46His Chief Minister has admitted that their Telangana Government does not have money to
00:12:53pay the salaries of the state government employees.
00:12:56So Karnataka situation is not too far.
00:13:00Economic situation, financial position of the Karnataka is going from bad to worse.
00:13:06But unfortunately, Siddaramaya is more busy attacking Narendra Modi Government rather
00:13:13than addressing the issues here in the Karnataka.
00:13:15In the Karnataka budget, Siddaramaya Government has made two unconstitutional announcements.
00:13:23One is regarding the 4% religion-based reservation for Muslims in government contracts, which
00:13:29is impermissible in the constitutional scheme.
00:13:32And second, a very divisive and a devious policy of allotting 1000 crore rupees for
00:13:40a policy called Chief Minister's Minority Colony Development Fund.
00:13:46Both these are against the spirit of the constitution.
00:14:17Let's take a look now at some international news coming in after Vladimir Putin, US President
00:14:22Donald Trump speaking to Zelensky.
00:14:24President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky held an hour-long conversation on Wednesday
00:14:29morning following Trump's discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:14:33Now in a social media post on Truth Social account, Donald Trump has stated that the
00:14:37call aimed to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their request and need as part
00:14:42of efforts to establish a ceasefire between two nations.
00:14:45Zelensky also taking to social media site X to share details of positive and substantial
00:14:52conversation with Trump.
00:14:53Remember that coming in after what you see on your screen was a full-on spectacle on
00:14:58camera.
00:14:59He also expressed appreciation for the progress made in the initial meeting between Ukraine
00:15:03and American teams in Jeddah as well.
00:15:05This comes after Russia and Ukraine exchanging 175 prisoners of war.
00:15:10Russia handed over additional 22 heavily wounded Ukrainian prisoners.
00:15:14They were in need of urgent medical care.
00:15:44President Trump and Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky had a fantastic phone conversation.
00:16:08President Zelensky thanked President Trump for a productive start for the work of the
00:16:12Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah on March 11th.
00:16:15The leaders agreed Ukraine and America will continue working together to bring about a
00:16:19real end to the war and that lasting peace under President Trump's leadership can be
00:16:24achieved.
00:16:25President Zelensky asked for additional air defense systems to protect his civilians,
00:16:29particularly Patriot missile systems.
00:16:31And President Trump agreed to work with him to find what was available, particularly in
00:16:36Europe.
00:16:37The two leaders also agreed on a partial ceasefire against energy.
00:16:41Technical teams will meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to discuss broadening the
00:16:45ceasefire to the Black Sea on the way to a full ceasefire.
00:16:50But I want you now to take a look at this special report that while Russia and Ukraine
00:16:55appear to be heading to a ceasefire, possibly the war could come to an end.
00:16:59But Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky maintains that what Russia or Putin has been
00:17:05saying is very different from the reality on the ground.
00:17:09Here's what's happening meanwhile among the netas and on the ground.
00:17:40This just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a limited ceasefire to halt
00:17:46attacks on energy infrastructure in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump.
00:17:52Ukraine accused Russia of rejecting a ceasefire after saying it attacked civilian infrastructure,
00:17:58including hospitals.
00:18:00Kremlin continues to maintain that Putin and Trump are paving the way to normalizing Russia-U.S.
00:18:06relations that previous administrations destroyed.
00:18:24The U.S. has meanwhile signaled that European partners will be included in peace talks.
00:18:30This even as Russia pushes for lifting of EU-imposed sanctions.
00:18:35Ukraine and its Western allies have long described Russia's invasion of Ukraine as an imperialist land grab.
00:18:43Now, with both Russia and Ukraine accusing each other of attacks, a temporary ceasefire
00:18:48is still a work in progress.

00:19:18at the Harvard University, discussing key challenges for India in achieving climate
00:19:22sustainability and deregulation in federal setup like India.
00:19:26Remember, India has been pushing forward and with U.S. with a commitment to global
00:19:31climate goals. Here's a special conversation.
00:19:35Joining me is Mr. Tarun Khanna who is professor at the Harvard Business School,
00:19:39also first director at Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute.
00:19:43Thank you very much Mr. Khanna for joining us.
00:19:46You're here in New Delhi and at the India conference on a climate resilience future.
00:19:54Tell me what is the biggest challenge for our country to achieve a climate sustainable future?
00:20:01I think one of the biggest challenges is to, as Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi
00:20:08said, that we have to both deal with the realities of providing energy as we are rapidly developing,
00:20:15hopefully even going from 6-6.5% growth to much faster, but that requires energy.
00:20:23We know that the energy intensity of economic growth, in other words how much GDP we add
00:20:29per unit of energy consumed, has been declining quite rapidly, which is a sign of enormous progress.
00:20:34We have to do much better on that front, so that's a big challenge.
00:20:37But, you know, I think we in India also want to be global citizens and it's not appropriate
00:20:43for us to say that we should be developing regardless with only fossil fuels.
00:20:50Because if we want to be global citizens and a global or at least a regional power,
00:20:56then we have to do this responsibly.
00:20:59That is why the ministry has cooperated with my colleagues at Harvard.
00:21:04And we come here in all humility to say that we don't have the answers,
00:21:08but we want to work with our colleagues in India, our scientists, social scientists,
00:21:13policy makers, to find ways to address these challenges.
00:21:19Mr. Khanna, you did talk about India's initiative and policy making a bit.
00:21:24I'd like to address that.
00:21:26The government has been talking about deregulation,
00:21:29cutting down the compliance in order to achieve the 6-6.5% growth or even higher GDP growth.
00:21:36When it comes to India's climate agenda,
00:21:39do you see the need of stronger policies from the central and state governments?
00:21:46I think policy making is always a bit of an art and some science.
00:21:53There are probably some areas where we have excess regulations.
00:21:57As social changes occur and technological changes occur,
00:22:01places that we might have been tight from a policy standpoint in the past
00:22:05may be appropriate to loosen the strings now.
00:22:07Maybe things that could be less safe in the past are now more safe
00:22:14because of the ways that we know how to do things better.
00:22:16On the other hand, there might be other areas where policy has to be tightened.
00:22:21An example that is true not just for India but the rest of the world
00:22:25is the carbon credentialing space.
00:22:28The carbon credits market is vibrant in some pockets,
00:22:33in Europe for instance, some parts of Europe,
00:22:35but it's quite moribund in many other places.
00:22:38The whole idea of carbon credits, as you know,
00:22:40is to say that if I don't know how to change my production process
00:22:44as an entrepreneur in the short run,
00:22:47and I am obliged to keep producing greenhouse gas emissions,
00:22:51I should be allowed to buy carbon credits from someone
00:22:54who is engaged in offsetting activity.
00:22:57That offsetting activity has to be something that can be credentialed
00:23:01so that the market can be based on a true asset exchange.
00:23:06So that's an area where regulation has to be more carefully thought through.
00:23:10But the straightforward answer to your question,
00:23:14not an easy answer, but a straightforward answer is that
00:23:16in some places we need tightening, in some places we need loosening.
00:23:19Some places tightening, in some places loosening.
00:23:21On a global scale, we have seen that a couple of countries
00:23:25have had a lopsided view when it comes to climate commitments.
00:23:29The US, in fact, with its new presidency,
00:23:32has its focus currently on other things
00:23:34and not much on commitments under the Paris Agenda or the UN.
00:23:39Does this bother you or concern you?
00:23:42Because this could have a direct impact on a lot of developing countries
00:23:46who are trying to reshape their strategies.
00:23:49Well, I think we are in a complicated geopolitical moment.
00:23:53And I'm certainly not an expert in policy in the US
00:23:57on what's going to happen in any of those areas.
00:24:00I don't really have any sensible thing to say
00:24:02other than to echo something that my friend and colleague,
00:24:05Suman Beri, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, just said on the stage,
00:24:09which is in this period of enormous positive technological ferment
00:24:15as well as unnerving geopolitical uncertainty,
00:24:19I think the task of the policy planner or the policy enthusiast
00:24:24as well as the entrepreneur is to be incredibly nimble
00:24:28and to build in that flexibility
00:24:30so that we can deal with these contingencies
00:24:32and to realize that excessively centralized,
00:24:35to go back to one of your earlier questions,
00:24:37excessively centralized policy may not serve us as well as it has in the past
00:24:42and that we need some decentralization
00:24:44so as to permit local empowerment, local experimentation
00:24:48to deal with turmoil that comes from technology or geopolitics.
00:24:53And very important when it comes to a country like India
00:24:55because of its democratic nature and the federal and state cooperation.
00:25:00But thank you very much, Mr. Khanna.

00:25:07I have news coming in from the border area of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana
00:25:11where the Punjab government has cleared the Kisan protest site.
00:25:15Nearly 700 farmers have been detained by the cops.
00:25:19The day after, the Farmers Center talks that took place,
00:25:24border areas was where some of the farmers who had been squatting.
00:25:28Protest tents have been bulldozed.
00:25:31Massive police deployment is presently at the border.
00:25:34Remember, specifically at the Punjab-Haryana borders
00:25:37where farmers had been protesting earlier
00:25:39but in the past few days, it appeared that the protest had also escalated.
00:25:44But now we are told that Punjab government has cleared the site.
00:25:50The tents have been bulldozed.
00:25:52The temporary tents that were built by these farmers who were protesting.
00:25:58We are told also Haryana police is clearing the Shambhu border blockades
00:26:03after the Punjab police have done it.
00:26:05So it's happening simultaneously now.
00:26:07Basically, Punjab police clearing the protesters from the Shambhu border.
00:26:11They have detained some of the farmer protesters, activists as well as other agitators.
00:26:16So these are the latest information coming in.
00:26:18You can see the JCB, the Rapid Action Force that has been deployed.

01:01:09attacks in Mumbai, the massacre of innocent people, over 100 people were killed by Pakistan's

01:01:16Tahawar Rana's latest application officially has been referred to the US Supreme Court
01:01:21judge, likely to consider application in the first week of April.
01:01:26So this is a legal process, remember?
01:01:28It's a legal option that's available to him.
01:01:30Tahawar Rana and his legal team are ensuring to do whatever it takes, at least legally
01:01:35to approach the court so that he's not extradited to India because if that happens, that means

01:01:57Well, Pooja, you remember that earlier in March, the Supreme Court had rejected his
01:02:02plea seeking a stay on his extradition, after which he had made a special request to the
01:02:07Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court asking for his application to be reconsidered.
01:02:12So it is this application that is now going to come up in a private chamber conference
01:02:17of the US Supreme Court judges on the 4th of April.
01:02:21The update that we have is that a copy of the application along with all other relevant
01:02:26documents has been distributed to all the judges who are going to be part of the conference
01:02:30on the 4th of April, but remember it's not necessary that there might be a discussion
01:02:35on Tahawar Rana's application.
01:02:37The judges might decide to just dismiss it or reject it even without having any discussion
01:02:43on it.
01:02:44And keeping in mind the fact that from all earlier courts he's got rejections, it remains
01:02:49to be seen what the Supreme Court does.
01:02:51But on the 4th of April is when it's going to be taken up and most likely on the next
01:02:56working day, which is on Monday, is when the court is going to read out the decision in
01:03:01open court.
01:03:02So it remains to be seen what happens, but this is the last option that is available
01:03:07for Tahawar Rana before the US Supreme Court.
01:03:10So if this doesn't go his way, then it means that his expedition will happen without a doubt.
