In Karnataka, 18 BJP MLAs have been suspended for six months from the Assembly following disruptions linked to allegations of a honey trap scandal. State Corporation Minister K.N. Rajanna claimed that 48 political leaders, including national figures, have been victims of honey trapping. The BJP is demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge, while the government has assured a proper investigation. Additionally, Karnataka's Cooperative Minister K.N. Rajanna's claim about the honey trap scandal has led the BJP to demand a CBI probe. In a separate event, the state assembly passed a controversial 4% quota bill for Muslims in government contracts, which led to protests from BJP MLAs who tore up the bill. The BJP plans to approach the Governor over this issue.

00:00Hi Drama and Karnataka is our top focus story on this special broadcast.
00:05MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party have been suspended for six months and they're physically
00:10being lifted out and carried out of the state assembly.
00:1418 MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party have been suspended for disruption, for heckling
00:20in some instances, tearing papers and hurling papers in the direction of the speaker's chair.
00:28Really grave charges, action against BJP MLAs who stormed into the well of the house
00:33and let me tell you more, why is all of this happening in the assembly in Karnataka?
00:38You're looking at those images of MLAs being physically lifted by the marshals and being
00:43taken out and they can't return for the next six months.
00:47They can't return to the Vidhan Sauda at all, not just to the assembly but also to any of
00:52the meeting rooms.
00:53They cannot come for any briefings or meetings or for any committee discussions and this
00:58comes after ruckus in Karnataka assembly over the honey trap scandal, that alleged honey
01:05trap.
01:06Some members said they had CDs in their hands, they waved these compact discs in their hand
01:15inside the assembly saying they had proof of this honey trap and there was kiosks in
01:21the assembly on Friday after the revelation by the state corporation minister, K.N. Rajanna
01:28and it's a very very serious allegation that was made by Mr. Rajanna, by K.N. Rajanna,
01:35the minister saying that at least 48 people, at least 48 people had fallen victim to honey
01:44trap in the state.
01:46Obscene videos have been made and are being circulated.
01:50Karnataka corporation minister, K.N. Rajanna claimed that 48 political leaders, MLAs, other
01:58people in politics and in public life, they have systematically been honey trapped.
02:05And the list is not just big, it cuts across party lines.
02:11It includes not just state leaders, according to K.N. Rajanna, it also includes national
02:18level leaders.
02:19Rajanna made this claim after BJP MLA, Basagowda Patil Yatnal mentioned his name saying an
02:26attempt was made to honey trap the corporation minister and all hell broke loose.
02:31Of course, the state home minister, Mr. Parameswaran, he has indicated there will be an investigation
02:38but the opposition is demanding an investigation either by a sitting high court judge because
02:44they are saying if there's an investigation by the state police, it will not be an impartial
02:50investigation.
02:51We're getting a lot of reactions to what's happening on ground.
02:54Let's quickly cut across and listen in.
02:58See the speaker is giving his usual reasons that we have not behaved properly.
03:04That is not the reason.
03:05They just want to pass the next bill without any fight.
03:08So they're suspending, so many of them have suspended.
03:13The reason being they're going to come up with a Muslim reservation bill now.
03:16You have seen 18 MLAs of the BJP have been suspended.
03:19They're saying we have been fighting for Dalit issues and hence we have been suspended is
03:23what the BJP MLAs are saying.
03:26I am the devotee of the Babasaheb Ambedkar.
03:29I can proudly say I'm the devotee of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
03:32The simply BJP people, they're creating disturbance in the assembly.
03:35So they've thrown papers and books in front of the speaker chair and on CM.
03:40So speaker has suspended 18 MLAs for a span of 6 months.
03:43What's wrong in it?
03:44Speaker has done a fantastic job.
03:46It sends a strong message to the country.
03:48Speaker is supreme in assembly.
03:49No one else, whether it is BJP or any other party, no one is supreme in assembly.
03:54Speaker is supreme in assembly.
03:56They're saying that 6 months is taking it a bit too far.
03:58Would you reconsider because there's another monsoon session in the 3 months now?
04:01No, why should we reconsider?
04:04We strongly oppose.
04:05Sir, if the BJP MLAs, 18 MLAs, they disrespect the speaker, how do you excuse them?
04:11So I don't think so they reconsider.
04:16Speakers stand by their decision.
05:05They have suspended for a period of 6 months and this shows to what extent the Congress
05:30will go to serve injustice.
05:34I condemn this.
05:37This is disrespect that was done to the assembly.
05:50We had demanded for a judicial inquiry.
05:52Is this hooliganism?
05:53We believe in Satyamev Jayate.
05:54We believe in the truth.
05:55Instead of serving the truth, they have suspended BJP MLAs.
06:11This is a huge blunder.
06:16Speaker is the Congress agent.
06:44The decision taken by Congress government to suspend 18 of our MLAs is anti-democratic.
07:09Mr. K N Rajanna has openly admitted to being victimised in honey trapping case and that
07:1648 other leaders have been victimised in this case.
07:29It was the responsibility of the Chief Minister to provide protection for those 48 leaders.
07:55The dignity of 224 MLAs has been tarnished.
08:05Protection should have been given to these leaders by the Chief Minister.
08:13We fought for the protection of MLAs but instead we got suspended.
08:40It is not right that you suspend us while we fight for the rights of MLAs.
09:07The sins of Congress government has been filled to the brim.
09:11There is a fight for power in the Congress leadership.
09:28The Chief Minister does not have it in him to come out for the rescue of us and for the
09:43Minister K N Rajanna who was victimised in the honey trapping case.
10:00The fact that the ruling government is not coming out to rescue an SPST leader just shows
10:19that the entire Ahinda narrative is just lip service.
10:29Why aren't they coming for the rescue of these leaders who have been victimised in
10:33honey trapping case?
10:51Jointly the BJP and JDS condemns the anti-democratic behaviour of the ruling Congress government.
11:02The government is trying to appease Muslims.
11:09We will take all these matter up and go in front of the people of Karnataka and expose the Congress government.
11:29So you heard the Bharatiya Janata Party, they're making it very clear that this is being done
11:34as part of a wider conspiracy.
11:38You heard R Ashok, you heard BY Vijendra, two things that they're saying.
11:43One, all they were seeking in that honey trap case and that's a big charge.
11:48When the State Corporation Minister goes on record to say he has been honey trapped.
11:54And he says that there are 48 others including legislators, including political leaders cutting
12:00across political lines, they have been honey trapped.
12:03Others including union leaders we are told have been honey trapped.
12:07There should be a wider enquiry says the BJP by a sitting high court judge.
12:12Then the BJP goes on to say 18 people were marshalled out, 18 MLAs were marshalled out
12:18because the Congress wants to pass the minority reservation bill for 4% reservation.
12:25BJP puts it as 4% reservation for Muslims in contracts.
12:29I quickly want to cut across to India Today's Anagha Keshav for more on this.
12:33Anagha give us details when the Congress says this is just action,
12:37suspending 18 MLAs for a period of 6 months.
12:40The BJP says this is vendetta politics and they'll take it to the people.
12:44What's cooking behind the scenes?
12:50Well in fact the BJP has stated when we fought for the rights of these 48 leaders
12:54who have been victimized in the honey trapping case.
12:57Why isn't the CM protecting us but instead suspended us for a period of 6 months
13:03is what Vijendra says.
13:04He has called this entire suspension as anti-democratic and that the Congress
13:09is deliberately doing this, deliberately not really coming in support of K N Rajana
13:14is what Vijendra is saying.
13:15And he also said that in the upcoming weeks and days he will be taking this issue up
13:19to the people of Karnataka to really expose the Congress government is what he said.
13:24And he also went on to elaborate that the Congress government while the entire
13:28hangama was happening in the house was busy trying to appease the minority community
13:33is what he said.
13:34In fact this entire ruckus in the house began because the BJP assumed that the 4%
13:40reservation bill was passed.
13:41But it turns out that this particular 4% reservation bill for minorities
13:46is still under discussion in the Speaker's office.
13:49The government is re-looking at that bill.
13:52In fact the bill that was instead passed was a finance bill and another bill to revise
13:57the salaries of elected representatives.
13:59Those two bills were passed in the assembly when the BJP MLAs were busy tearing apart
14:04papers, throwing books at leaders, at the CM, climbing on to the Speaker's stand,
14:09trying to tear apart pieces of paper, shred it out and throw it on the Speaker's face
14:15while the entire marshal who were deployed in Vidhan Sardar's ward inside the house
14:20trying to protect the Speaker and the CM.
14:23Truly unprecedented kind of scenes that we have seen in the state of Karnataka.
14:27A never seen before kind of development.
14:3018 MLAs from BJP suspended for a period of 6 months.
14:35Now Anagha, while this is unprecedented, the issue of honey trap in Karnataka
14:41is not unprecedented.
14:43It had cropped up in 2021 you'd recall and it's cropped up again in 2025
14:48and this time you have a minister going on record to say he's the victim
14:53and there are 48 other victims.
14:54There were some CDs I'm told that are being circulated.
14:57What details do we have?
14:59Is this as part of some organized syndicate?
15:03Is it being done to trap them and then blackmail them?
15:07This would be very very serious if lawmakers in a big state like Karnataka
15:13have been honey trapped.
15:15Is there merit in need for an impartial investigation
15:19either by a sitting High Court judge or an independent investigation
15:23if our lawmakers, if elected leaders have been honey trapped and for long?
15:32Well certainly several of Karnataka ministers have been involved in honey trapping case
15:38right from Ramesh Charkeholi that happened right during Karnataka elections.
15:42You know now it's K N Rajendra who is coming out and saying
15:45and he also says there are 48 other leaders
15:47and the main allegation is that this entire honey trapping scene has come out
15:51because of a power struggle in the Congress government.
15:53That's the main narrative that is being sprinted out.
15:56You know if there's any truth to this is something that has to be investigated.
16:00You know but the main thing here is that there is a strong allegation
16:04that the one who is behind this honey trap scandal is in fact a political leader.
16:09Somebody influential is behind this whole scandal
16:12is the kind of narrative that's being spinned out
16:14but is there merit in this? Is there truth to this?
16:17Is something that only investigation will tell
16:19and that's why the BJP at this point is demanding for a high level investigation
16:24done unbiased by a retired High Court judge so that all the colors come out.
16:29If there is a political leader behind this who is doing it for political struggle
16:33I'm sure you know it's not just anyone who is doing this.
16:36There must be an influential figure who is doing this is what the BJP says
16:39and that's why at this point they are demanding for a judicial inquiry
16:43to really verify who exactly is you know is behind this.
16:47Why are they doing this? How many people are behind this?
16:50Because remember it's not just one or two leaders that we are talking about.
16:53The allegation that you know that's directly come up from the horse's mouth
16:57that's K N Rajanna is that 48 leaders cutting across party lines
17:01have been lured and victimized in the honey trapping case is what K N Rajanna says.
17:06In fact they are also saying that certain union leaders are also involved in this.
17:10So that's why the BJP at this point is demanding for an unbiased investigation
17:15and replying to this the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has you know openly stated
17:20that be it from BJP or from the Congress party or any party for that matter
17:24if there is a leader behind this we will not let them go unscathed
17:28is what Siddaramaiah has assured.
17:30Okay this becomes extremely extremely murky and Anaga is getting us
17:35she's peeling the story layer by layer.
17:38So the allegation is that a very very powerful leader in the state of Karnataka
17:44is alleged to be behind honey trapping at least 48 ministers, MLAs, union leaders
17:54and some very powerful entities and the people who are seeking an investigation
18:00they've been marshaled out. Will there be an investigation?
18:03Anaga will be tracking that story very very closely.
18:06Earlier Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke on the floor of the house
18:10he assured leaders that there will be a proper and transparent investigation in this case.
18:16Listening to political reactions that are coming in from across the political spectrum
18:20with the government saying there will be an investigation
18:23the opposition saying it cannot be a police investigation, it will not be unbiased
18:27let there be a judicial probe in this.
18:53Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
19:23Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
19:53Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
20:23Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
20:53Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
21:23Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
21:53Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
21:57Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:01Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:05Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:09Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:13Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:17Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:21Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking
22:30Siddaramaiah speaking
22:50some big high-level politicians and everybody is involved in this so we need
22:57a free and fair investigation to be done and done into this looked into this
23:02matter and we demand that the CM Siddaramayya should answer to this first
23:06before giving his budget speech. And Karnataka Corporation Minister K N
23:12Rajanna had made this explosive claim in the assembly he said 48 political
23:19leaders including union leaders MLAs others are victims of a honey trap he
23:27claimed there was a wider political motive behind the honey trap and this
23:32controversy emerged amidst this ongoing past struggle within the Karnataka
23:38ruling party and government. What started as a whispers of a Karnataka minister
23:45being honey-trapped has now spiraled into a full-blown scandal. State
23:52Cooperative Minister K N Rajanna claimed in the assembly that at least 48 people
23:57including national figures had been caught in honey traps
24:27Rajanna is now demanding an inquiry into the matter. I don't know I don't
24:44know I come to know only when the department you see there may be so many
24:50speculations going on but if I had to say officially then I had to get
24:55information so I was department to give me some information so far nobody has
25:00told us in the department now if there is any complaint in the department. The
25:07BJP slammed the Siddaramayya government and sought an independent trope. More
25:13than 45 48 leaders they are the victim of this honey trap and he did not name
25:20anybody but he has said that some national leaders have also been victim
25:24so I'm 100 I mean this matter you can't expect any fair investigation by SIT or
25:31anybody else or nor by sitting high court I mean retired high court judge it has to
25:36be referred to CBI investigation.
25:54Sources tell India Today Minister Rajanna met CM Siddaramayya and
26:06complained about being targeted. The scandal has triggered a political storm
26:12and embarrassed the faction-ridden Congress in the state. With Sagar Raj and
26:18Nagarjun Dwarkanath in Bengaluru Bureau report India Today.
26:49BJP MLAs had torn the quota bill in shreds in the assembly and had been
26:54thrown out 18 of them had been marshaled out leader of opposition in the state
26:59assembly R Ashok of the BJP said that this is eating into the quota of the
27:04Dalits it's injustice to Dalits you are giving the share of Dalits to Muslims
27:10that's the allegation that the Bharatiya Janata Party has leveled against the
27:15Congress Party in Karnataka in fact you have BJP's Sambit Patra who went on
27:20record to call Congress Party's leader of opposition in the center and Congress
27:26Party MP Rahul Gandhi as Alamgir Rahul you know with a very very clear bar at
27:34at the Congress Party BJP claims this is minority appeasement listen into what's
27:39happening in the state assembly
28:10okay I quickly want to cut across to India Today's Anagha for more on the
28:27story Anagha I believe the bill was tabled and passed bring us details
28:32what's happening on ground
28:36well in fact the BJP MLA's they've taken the bill and tore it apart by saying that
28:41by passing this 4% reservation bill for Muslims you are doing nothing but serving
28:46injustice to Dalits is what the BJP MLA's are saying in fact the 4%
28:50reservation bill gives 4% quota for Muslim community individuals under
28:56government contracts so it's exactly against this bill that the BJP has taken
29:01its guns against by saying that if you're giving 4% reservation for
29:05minorities then what about Dalits both these communities in the social specter
29:09have been socially backward by only cherry-picking Muslim community you're
29:13leaving behind Dalits is what the BJP is saying and that's the reason why
29:17hangama has once again broken out in the assembly session today this morning the
29:22BJP mistook that you know in fact they mistook the finance bill to be the 4%
29:27reservation bill and hence the entire hangama began and this evening the
29:31Karnataka Assembly has picked up that bill and the BJP has torn the bill apart
29:35by saying that by passing this bill you're doing nothing but just indulging
29:40in appeasement politics while trying to appease one section of the community
29:43you're cheating Dalits is what the BJP is saying meanwhile the BJP has defended
29:48the Congress the ruling government in Karnataka has defended its
29:53move by saying that this is a step towards ensuring social justice and not
29:58really serving injustice but the BJP seems to have a different narrative by
30:02saying that this bill you know is you know is anti social welfare in fact the
30:06latest update that we are getting is that the BJP MLA's are to go to the
30:10Raj Bhavan the house has been adjoined the BJP MLA's we believe will be
30:15going to the Raj Bhavan to meet the governor and give them a memorandum one
30:19against the 4% reservation bill we are yet to wait and watch if you know if a
30:24memorandum on the honey trap case will be given but for now once the house is
30:28adjoined sign time the BJP MLA's will be marching from Vidhan Sauda to the Raj
30:33Bhavan to meet the governor and submit a memorandum. So high drama high drama in the
30:38Karnataka State Assembly in the Vidhan Sauda but Anagha is there clarity
30:43because the BJP says it is 4% reservation for Muslims in the
30:49government contracts as part of this bill the Congress initially was saying
30:54that it's for minorities including Muslims and not only Muslims is there
30:59clarity on this Anagha?
31:04Well in fact that's the reality check that BJP got this morning while all these
31:08months it was believed that this contract will be applicable for all
31:12sections of the minorities which also includes the Jain community Christian
31:16community including the Muslim community but turns out this morning the BJP got a
31:20reality check that this was applicable only for the Muslim community and that's
31:25why this entire hangama has broken out once again and that's why the BJP has
31:29taken up the cudgels and has decided to march towards the Raj Bhavan in fact the
31:334% reservation bill gives reservation for individuals from the Muslim
31:37community in government contracts so it's exactly against this bill why the
31:43BJP has taken its guns once again condemning this in fact this bill was
31:47also taken up in the council to which there was objections raised but in the
31:51assembly once it was passed the BJP you know the entire house broke out into
31:56chaos and now we are witnessing that the MLAs are staging a march from
32:00Vidhan Sauda to the Raj Bhavan. That's the BJP strategy they will
32:05take it up with the governor Thavarchand Gehlot and they hope that it will be
32:10stored or sent back from there. BJP has called it unconstitutional will this be
32:16subject to judicial scrutiny will it come back BJP MLAs now as Anaga Keshav
32:22breaking that big story first here on India today the BJP says that this is
32:28illegal unconstitutional and are now heading to the Raj Bhavan. Tender
32:35eligibility level has also been changed quota for SCST 17.1% and all
32:43those numbers are now on your television screen OBC contractors can participate
32:48in specific tenders but specific we are told are there for Muslims as Anaga is
32:56telling us so high drama in Karnataka two major issues where the BJP and the
33:02Congress are at loggerheads. Anaga for the moment many thanks for joining me
33:06keep writing that story I will come back to you for more.
33:12Shifting focus to the other big story we're tracking here on India today Delhi
33:17High Court Justice Yashwant Verma has been transferred to the Allahabad High
33:22Court by the Supreme Court Collegium after a large amount of cash was
33:27recovered from his bungalow now stacks of cash apparently were recovered after
33:33a fire was reported at his official residence in Delhi the Supreme Court has
33:38also ordered an investigation into this matter and has directed the Chief
33:42Justice of the Delhi High Court to submit a report to the Supreme Court
33:46Collegium we get to more in this report. Mr. Justice Yashwant Verma sir please
33:54it is one of the biggest scandals to hit the Indian judiciary at the center of
33:59the storm is Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma unaccounted cash
34:05was found at his bungalow over the holy weekend after a fire incident after the
34:11cash recovery Justice Verma was transferred back to his parent court
34:16the Allahabad High Court after the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation
34:22whether an in-house inquiry will be conducted is still under consideration
34:28Supreme Court Collegium had sought a report from Delhi High Court Chief
34:32Justice on the case Supreme Court judges have also been informed about the issue
34:38the cash scandal has triggered big outrage I don't wish to make a comment
34:44except to say that the law must be set in motion because the minute you get a
34:49recovery of quote-unquote large amounts quote-unquote a pile of cash what is a
34:54large amount what is the pile of cash we are just going by rumors someone says
34:5915 crores someone says 50 crores I think this incident calls for a disclosure
35:06statement by the Collegium on all the questions that have raised certainly the
35:12issue of corruption within the judiciary is a very serious issue and this is not
35:17something that has been articulated by senior counsel and lawyers in this
35:22country so I think that it's time for the Supreme Court to start looking at
35:28issues of how the appointment process should take place
35:32so what happens next Dalabhar High Court Bar Association has already
35:37objected to the Justice Varma's transfer back saying that their court is not a
35:42trash bin sources tell India Today that the Union
35:46government is waiting for Supreme Court action in the case and is willing to
35:50bring impeachment motion if it is recommended with Srishti Ojai New Delhi
35:55Bureau report India Today
36:02you the DMK was a center language war that face-off has now been taken to a
36:11level higher Union Home Minister Amit Shah's scathing attack on the DMK Amit
36:18Shah said the DMK is hiding behind the language issue the Union Home Minister
36:25said the DMK is using language as a shield to keep the focus away from a
36:32very serious issue as he put it of corruption listen in to the Union Home

38:57in 21st century to divide the country.
39:00Language unites the country.
39:03Now speaking in Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah insisted, he asserted, terror incidents
39:08and not just in Jammu and Kashmir but across have reduced sharply, there have been no incidents,
39:14not one instance of stone pelting or hartal in the valley all through 2024.

45:13The BJP has asked all Hindus to join Ram Navami processions in Bengal in large numbers.
45:19And looking at the situation, the BCCI has decided to shift the Kolkata Knight Riders versus Lucknow Super Giant,
45:25the IPL match on Ram Navami to Guwahati because the Bengal police according to the cricket board
45:32wasn't able to provide security both to Ram Navami and to the cricket match.

46:11Only Hindus will rule in India.
46:16Those who work for the benefit of Hindus will rule in Bengal.
46:23First casualty of this escalation is IPL game between Kolkata Knight Riders versus Lucknow Super Giants
46:29that was scheduled to be held at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens on April 6 on Ram Navami.
