00:00Investigation is intensifying in the Nagpur riots case, what happened on March 17th evening?
00:06Cops have now said as the Maharashtra cyber cell is tracking the latest on that.
00:11We have identified provocative posts related to the riots.
00:14We have issued notice to take down and any information of the posts coming in.
00:18Basically, I quote from what the Maharashtra cyber cell is saying.
00:21We have identified a few people who posted provocative social media posts and they are being sent notice.
00:27Remember that there was some humor mongering, misinformation campaign that was led
00:32about something that was burnt possibly by the Hindu groups in the protest.
00:37By evening, while Hindu groups had gone back and dispersed, by 7pm this is what happened.
00:44A mob appeared starting to vandalize parts of the city, attacking even houses, homes
00:53and you can see the number of people out on the streets with sticks and rods and much worse.
00:59Vidya joins me on the phone line for the latest on that.
01:02Vidya, tell us how the Maharashtra cyber cell is leading the investigation on this and what are they looking into?
01:10Well, there is an issue that the Chief Minister himself had pointed out wherein he had stated that
01:17this entire mob violence had started after social media posts wrongly stating that there was a chadar that was burnt
01:27or a tomb desecrated that has led to this entire mob.
01:32And the way the mob went around rampaging wherein they attacked policemen and even tried to, as he said,
01:43women police cops were molested and the mob even tried to strip off.
01:49That was not right and that's one of the reasons why the police is taking strict action against those people
01:56who have vandalized and went around creating such a ruckus in this city.
02:04And that's one of the reasons why the Chief Minister very clearly stated that everyone will be identified
02:12even if they have to be brought in from wherever they are hiding.
02:16And that has to be a state call that irrespective what community, group, anywhere they would be,
02:25nobody should be allowed to indulge in mob violence and disturb law and order
02:29on some random issues in which the mob can suddenly emerge and look at that violence and aggression.
02:36Thank you Vidya. We will be tracking how Maharashtra government and the police ensures that this is never repeated again in the state.
