00:00Well let's go straight to that breaking news now and the JFK assassination files

00:03have been released by the Trump administration and they've revealed some

00:07surprising Australian connections. Yes, Seven News chief reporter Chris Reason

00:11joins us here on the set with more. Good morning Rezo. This is fascinating stuff

00:16tell us more. I know it's only just happening now. Intriguing and it has just

00:20happened now. They've just started releasing these documents. Bit of back

00:23story here as you know six million documents connected to the

00:27assassination back in 1963 on November 22. There's the footage of JFK in Dallas.

00:32They've been releasing slowly for years these documents and there's been one

00:37last batch, one last tranche of 80,000 documents. Donald Trump pledged that he

00:42would release those. That release has begun today. It began about an almost an

00:46hour ago and in the first several documents released an Australian

00:51connection has been revealed and guys it is quite fascinating. I've got a copy of

00:55some of those those documents here with me now. It's a series of communications

00:59between the head of ASIO, a guy called Sir Charles Spry and the head, the

01:04director of the CIA begging the CIA not to release certain documents. So the

01:10Australians begging the Americans. The Americans not to release some documents

01:13and this is intriguing. There's been all sorts of connections made between JFK

01:17and Australia but we've never seen it this clearly and we're still digging

01:20through the documents to find out what but here's one of the most important and

01:23critical parts of that communications to the Director of Central Intelligence

01:28from this Charles Spry, the the head of the ASIO, saying our investigations of

01:34anonymous telephone calls to the Canberra Embassy before and after the

01:39assassination of President Kennedy. Now this is ASIO asking for the information

01:44about those calls to be kept secret by the CIA, not to be made public and it

01:49came just as they were building up to the all-important Warren Commission in

01:531963, the big investigation, and they were worried the Warren Commission was

01:57about to release this sensitive information that was recorded in the

02:01Canberra Embassy, something to do with JFK's assassination. Phone calls before

02:07the assassination and after the assassination. Raises more questions than

02:12I can give you answers here today but we're still going through those

02:15those files and those those released documents now to see if we can find out

02:19what exactly was the content of that phone call and those phone calls made to

02:24the Canberra Embassy. I mean hard to know here Rezo but do we think that the contents of

02:26those calls could be contained within the 80,000 files? We don't know, I know

02:30the name of the of the file I'm searching for it now, CD 971, if we can

02:34find that that will tell us. The file was sealed when it was in those

02:38communications back and forth. It'll be fascinating to see what it says. It was in

02:42Australian communication and the fact that it was before the assassination and

02:45after, is this indication of knowledge? I don't want to get ahead of ourselves

02:49here but what significance is yet to be determined.
