00:03:46Prime Minister of Canada and the 30th Canadian ministry.
00:03:49I'd like to take a moment to share with you a traditional activity that was initiated
00:03:53just prior to the beginning of the ceremony, the laying of the houlek, a traditional Inuit
00:03:58lamp. This lamp is used in the north to bring light and warmth to the home. We light the
00:04:04hulik to mark important events such as today's ceremony. And we are grateful for the presence
00:04:09of Elder Canon Iga Atikuziak from Arctic Bay, who lit the hulik and will remain and maintain
00:04:17its light and warmth throughout the ceremony.

00:04:49Kwek Akinna. Hello everybody. I'm very honoured to be here today and I'd like to welcome you
00:04:56to our traditional unceded lands here and I'm very honoured, Your Excellency, for the
00:05:04invitation. I do many openings for constituents in Ottawa here, but I always talk about the
00:05:12significance here because this is so special for us as Algonquin. We're known as the Mamaniniwak,
00:05:19the nomads, and we're known for the birchbark canoe. And we would meet here in the summer
00:05:24prior to contact to talk about what's going on on the land. But this confluence here is
00:05:31very special because it represents balance, balance of the four directions, the four seasons,
00:05:36the four stages of your life. And I find it interesting that Parliament and Rideau Hall
00:05:45and all the government headquarters are located here because I think this is special too as
00:05:51well for leadership. And I'm honouring the new leader today too as well. And I was thinking
00:05:57about you today, I said it's like the geese and you have the head, the person at the head,
00:06:05and they face the head waters. And I think we're in for all these challenges, but even
00:06:12more so today. So I'm going to honour you and all of you with a little opening prayer
00:06:17and thanking everybody.
