00:00On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the country agrees with the U.S.
00:14proposals for a ceasefire with Ukraine.
00:23Reliefed Palestinians denounced the severe tortures they had gone through while they
00:26had been kept in Israeli prisons.
00:34And the Argentine police repressed brutally senior retirees and football fans who were
00:40vying against President Mele's neoliberal policies.
00:49Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Caracas,
00:53Venezuela.
00:54We begin with the news, stay with us.
00:56On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the country agrees with the U.S.
01:10proposals for a ceasefire with Ukraine.
01:13However, the President assured the ceasefire must lead to a lasting peace and eliminate
01:17the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.
01:20Let's recall, U.S. negotiators are in Russia to present their plan for a 30-day ceasefire
01:25in Ukraine.
01:26In this context, Putin assured that any proposal has to be a long-term solution and that he
01:30needs to speak to U.S. President Donald Trump, as he has a number of questions and concerns
01:35regarding this deal moving forward.
01:46We agree with proposals to end hostilities, but we believe that this cessation must be
01:56one that leads to long-term peace and addresses the root causes of this crisis.
02:04Russian President also expressed his reservations regarding Kiev's compliance with the agreement
02:09in Ukraine.
02:18If we halt the hostilities for 30 days, what will it mean?
02:22Will all those who are there, in the Kursk region, come out without a fight?
02:27Should we just let them out after all the crimes against civilians they committed?
02:32Or will the Ukrainian leadership order them to lay down arms and simply surrender?
02:37How will it work?
02:39It's not clear.
02:46In this order of ideas, President Putin expressed his support for the idea of concluding the
02:50conflict with Ukraine through peaceful means.
02:59So the idea itself is correct, and we certainly support it.
03:03But there are issues that we need to discuss, and I think that we need to discuss it with
03:07our American colleagues and partners.
03:10Maybe call President Trump and discuss it together.
03:13Overall, we support the idea to end the conflict by peaceful means.
03:23Russian President Vladimir Putin received his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko
03:27who arrived in Moscow on Thursday for an official visit.
03:31The Russian President described relations between Russia and Belarus as special relations
03:34of cooperation and brotherhood, recalling the historical ties that unite the two nations.
03:40Lukashenko, for his part, stressed the very high level of bilateral relations, noting
03:44that together with Russia they form a unique entity in the form of the State of Union.
03:49It is planned that the heads of state will discuss key issues for the further development
03:53of the Binational Strategic Partnership and alliances.
04:19Reliefs Palestinians denounce the severe tortures they had gone through while they had been
04:22kept in Israeli prisons.
04:24On a joint communique, the Commission of Detainees and Former Detainees Affairs and
04:28the Palestinian Prisoners Club unfolded testimonies of the released Palestinians as evidence that
04:33Israeli authorities tortured them on their time in prisons.
04:36Both entities specifically denounced that in the Negev Israeli prison inmates have been
04:41suffering from starvation due to the fact that they used to receive little food.
04:45In addition, they rejected the policy of humiliation prison authorities have upheld against Palestinians.
04:52Several sworn statements confirm Israeli officers used to keeping detainees seated
04:56and handcuffed to iron beds, most of the time as a way of breaking them psychologically.
05:10And on Wednesday, the UN Special Rapporteur Michael Faki warned that the Zionist regime
05:15of Israel is carrying out an unprecedented famine campaign in the Gaza Strip.
05:19In a press conference in the city of Geneva, Switzerland, the rapporteur explained that
05:23by restricting access to humanitarian aid in the Palestinian enclave, Benjamin Netanyahu's
05:28government has carried out the fastest campaign in modern history.
05:42The Egyptian government, in its capacity as mediator between Hamas and Israel, is advocating
05:47a plan that will lead the Palestinians to peace and real justice for the sake of stability
05:51in the region.
05:53Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has ratified the establishment of a Palestinian
05:57state as the only solution to the displacement of Palestinians in their territory due to
06:01the Israeli genocide and occupation.
06:03Let us recall that the Egyptian leader presented to the Arab League an initiative to rebuild
06:08Gaza within five years, at an estimated cost of 53 billion dollars, without the need to
06:13displace its people.
06:15The plan will be developed in three phases, emergency aid, shelter, and reconstruction
06:19under international supervision, with the funds provided by the international community.
06:40In the United States, protesters gathered at Trump Tower in New York City to demand
06:44the release of a Colombian university student and Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who
06:50was arbitrarily arrested and remains in immigration custody.
06:54Khalil, who was a lead organizer of activities to denounce Israel's genocidal operations
06:58on Palestine at the university, was detained by ICE on Saturday.
07:03The demonstrations to demand his release, which were organized by a progressive Jewish
07:07group, occupied the Trump Tower, chanting slogans such as, Bring Mahmoud Home Now.
07:13Amid Trump administration attacks on universities over pro-Palestinian protests, observers say
07:17Khalil is being used as a test case for mass arrests, while Trump has expressed his arrest
07:22is the first of many to come, amid threats to deport students.
07:31We are hoping to help spread the word and support the protests that are happening all
07:37over the country in support of Mahmoud Khalil, demanding that his unconstitutional abduction
07:42be revoked, demanding he is freed, but also calling on people everywhere to speak up now.
07:49I'm just standing up for my rights and I'm standing up for Mahmoud Khalil, who has been
07:55abducted illegally and taken to an undisclosed location.
07:59Does that sound like America to you?
08:02A former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was handed over to the International Criminal
08:06Court on Wednesday after his arrival in the Netherlands.
08:10He is accused of crimes against humanity during his 2011 and 2019 anti-drug campaign in the
08:15Philippines.
08:16More than 250 people gathered outside the detention center in support of the former
08:20leader.
08:21The former president entered the detention center with an arrest warrant for alleged
08:25crimes against humanity in the Philippines.
08:28The former leader landed in the country after a stopover in Dubai, where he underwent a
08:32medical examination and all passengers on the plane were issued with essential documents.
08:39And the Vatican Press Office reported that Pope Francis spent a peaceful night after
08:50having confirmed his health condition is on demand on the 12th anniversary of his pontificate.
08:56The Holy See detailed no further initiative to celebrate the commemoration, even though
09:00the just X-ray performed from Pope Francis corroborated his health improvement.
09:06Almost a month earlier, the Pope had been admitted into the Gemelli Hospital in Rome
09:10due to his bilateral pneumonia alongside other collateral respiratory issues.
09:15After having overcome several crises, Francis' health condition is no longer in a preserved
09:19prognosis.
09:20Currently, his physicians reveal he is out of imminent danger.
09:33We now have our first break coming up.

10:00The Argentine police repressed brutally on Wednesday senior referees and football fans
10:04who were rallying against President Mele's neoliberal policies.
10:08The Mele administration, namely the Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, had ordered offices

10:58this Friday, March 14th.
11:00Washington Special Envoy Richard Grenell announced the agreement through his social media account.
11:04Previously, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, stated that sanctions against the
11:08oil company Chevron affected the new channel of communication with the U.S. authorities
11:13and the repatriation flights of migrants.
11:15In addition, the Venezuelan government reaffirmed that most of the returnees are people who
11:19migrated in search of economic horizons, and just a few of them have criminal records.
11:25In this regard, the Venezuelan government reported through a communiqué that, within
11:37the framework of the Return to the Homeland Plan, it has reached an agreement with Special

11:45States.

13:34The event, which will be dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the multi-state channel
13:38Telesol, has among its objectives to reclaim the memory of political communication in the
13:42South, analyze the influence of digital platforms on political participation and the confirmation
13:47of power, identity, challenges and generate proposals for an ethical and liberating use
13:52of technology.
14:07In Honduras, the National Electoral Council appeared publicly to speak of past Sunday's
14:11electoral process, which it described as a success, regardless of some delays.
14:41All our people are still as or more committed than before in this work to advance in this
14:45process, not for us, not for our ego, not only for the entity, but for Honduras as our
14:50homeland.
14:54Inequal, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities held a plurinational popular assembly to define
15:00a plan of action for the runoff election in defense of such a field.
15:04The convention aimed at establishing a consensus position with a view to the two candidates
15:08for the next ballot in April.
15:10Sosa's unanimous position was not achieved during the first round due to divergences
15:14with the Amazonian groups.
15:16Several organizations of the Central Highlands support the candidacy of President Daniel
15:20Novoa, while the National Federation of Farmers, Indigenous and Black Organizations is leading
15:25towards the campaign of Lisa González.
15:27In this regard, CUNAI President Leonidas Issa reaffirmed his commitment to the democratic
15:31respect of all positions within the movement.
15:40In this context, Ecuadorian Presidential Candidate Luisa González took to her social platform
15:45X to thank the organization and address its requests.
15:49Precisely, González stated,
15:51The path of unity is the one we will travel together for the life of our nation.
15:55As a woman and as a Montuvian, I am deeply grateful for the support expressed by CUNAI
16:00and all the social organizations and collectives that represent the burgeoning nationality
16:04and interculturality of our peoples, and who have expressed themselves within this movement.
16:09They have expressed themselves with the height and urgency our country demands.
16:13They are taking a historic step with their firm intention to build a project that prioritizes
16:18the human being and dignity based on social justice and respect for our fundamental rights,
16:23which guarantees us the Constitution and the law.
16:26I assume with total responsibility the request for the construction of a programmatic agenda
16:31that promotes better days for Ecuador.
16:34I am also convinced that this path will be much wider and will invite all sectors that
16:38support our country to walk forward together without leaving anyone behind.
16:43Absolutely convinced that our coincidences are much bigger than our differences.
16:48Now more than ever, I think the days of fear will soon be changed by those of hope,
16:53polarization and hatred for unity and the light for the truth.
16:57We will leave behind the indolence and abandonment and will give way to the collective well-being
17:02and peace that all Ecuadorians long for, integrating into the world and the international community.
17:07Our fight is for life.
17:27And also in Ecuador, according to the latest official damage assessment,
17:31the number of people affected by the rainy season exceeded 96,000,
17:35including more than 11,000 victims, 19 dead and 100 injured.
17:39So far, eight of the country's 24 provinces are still in a state of emergency,
17:43including the six that make up the Guayas Coast, Los Rios, Manabe, El Oro, Esmeralda,
17:48Santa Elena and the Andean provinces of Loja and Azuay, located in the southern part of the country.
17:54The province of Manabe has been the most affected by the rainy season,
17:57with 62,000 people affected.
17:59Between March 13th and the 17th, the National Secretary of Risk and Meteorological Prevention
18:04warns that high-intensity rainfall will continue in part of the country,
18:07especially in the coast and the south in the afternoon and early morning.
