00:00Becoming an empty nester is every mom's biggest fear, and while Joanna Gaines admits that
00:04she thinks about it all the time, especially now that she's got one cadeau in college and
00:09another preparing to follow suit, the Magnolia Network co-founder has been working hard to
00:13embrace what's to come.
00:15She tells us in the new issue of Us Weekly,
00:17"...I've had to practice a healthier mindset about this beautiful rite of passage that
00:21my kids are experiencing right now."
00:24Now Joanna just released her children's book, The World Needs the Wonder You See, which
00:28was inspired by her youngest son, Crew.
00:31She tells us,
00:32"...When Crew came, as a surprise, I was older.
00:35And I don't want to say that I was wiser, but I did have these four older kids as living
00:40proof that time really does move as fast as everyone promises.
00:44I knew that I wanted to hold Crew's childhood differently.
00:48He slows me down."
00:50But being a mom of five does challenge her and give her a fresh perspective.
00:54She tells us,
00:55"...We've lost a lot in the last 20 years, but there have been so many losses and failures.
01:00So when it comes to our kids, we've tried to instill in them the perspective that it's
01:03not always about making it to the championship game.
01:07It's the journey along the way, the skills you're developing, how your character is being
01:11refined.
01:13That really matters."
01:14And she and her husband, Chip Gaines, have been together for over two decades.
01:18And she tells us of the secret to their marriage,
01:20"...We just started taking dancing lessons, which is another fun and hilarious thing for
01:24us to do.
01:25Really, just continuing to find new ways to partner up is what keeps us strong."
01:31She adds, "...it's been fun to see how our relationship is just consistent, no matter
01:35what we're tackling."
