14 Day Outlook presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there and welcome to your 14 day outlook. It's going to feel more like winter this week,
00:05feeling cold in some brisk north easterly winds. Not only this, but it's dragging in
00:10plenty of showers for the rest of the week. Some of these a little bit wintry at times,
00:13particularly along North Sea coasts. And it's all thanks to this area of high pressure just
00:18to the southwest of Iceland, bringing in a northerly flow, so dragging in some very cold
00:23air from the Arctic, stretching its way across the country and bringing in plenty of showers.
00:28As I say, some of these a little bit wintry, particularly across the Scottish Highlands,
00:32the Pennines, the North York Moor, for example. So bringing in some snow, perhaps even some
00:37flurries to lower levels, but it's melting away quite quickly through the course of the
00:40day. But definitely some frosty mornings on the cards and also an ice risk. So do take
00:44care throughout about during the early hours of the morning and keeping an eye on this
00:48area of high pressure as we head towards the weekend. It's slowly shifting its way eastward,
00:53so that's going to kill off any remaining showers from the week. So lots of dry weather
00:57for Saturday and Sunday, lots of blue skies, but still a frost and ice risk during the
01:01course of the morning. We still remain in that colder plume of air, so still feeling
01:05chilly by day and also by night. Then what about after that? Well, as we head into next
01:11week, that high pressure continues to shift its way eastward. That's allows low pressure
01:15to build out into the Atlantic, so changing our wind direction for more of a south southwesterly
01:20rather than a northerly. So that means things are going to turn a little bit milder, particularly
01:24from the south during the during the start of next week. Not only is it going to be turning
01:29milder, though, this this allows more Atlantic mobility, so more frontal systems allowed
01:34to push their way up from the southwest. So not only is going to be turning milder chance
01:37we could start to see more cloud from the south, possibly even some rain. But for the
01:42first week, high pressure largely dominates. It's normally as we get into the second week,
01:46we see a few more of these bluer colors, so an indication that something a little bit
01:50more unsettled, some more low pressure taking hold. But it's just figuring out the details
01:55of those. But this is also widely signified in the zonal trend. So the red colors shown
02:00in showing more of an easterly flow. And then as we head further into March, more of the
02:05blue colors, more of a westerly flow. So something a little bit more unsettled, more cloud and
02:09rain, particularly for western areas. But it is going to be turning milder now as we
02:14head towards the end of the 14 day period. Once again, there's a good signal of low pressure
02:19now, this time to the northwest. So bringing in rather than a southwesterly, more of a
02:23westerly type. So that means, yes, possibly seeing more cloud, more outbreaks of rain
02:27moving in here, particularly across northwestern parts of Scotland. But temperatures largely
02:32improving. So turning milder, particularly across the south. So it's not going to be
02:37feeling quite as chilly. A change is on its way. Turning milder, yes, but it's likely
02:42along with this milder weather, it's also going to turn wet and windy, too. So after
02:47a dry weekend, likely to see more rain into next week. But if you're not a fan of the
02:51cold weather, it is going to be turning milder. Bye bye.
