00:00A multi-risk project with an interdisciplinary approach that combines STEM skills with human and socio-economic sciences to promote knowledge of natural phenomena and their impact on communities.
00:21This is the RETURN project, financed by the PNRR, which in Bologna had its dissemination workshop.
00:27A comparison to understand how forecasting, prevention, management and monitoring of water-related risks, soil stability, earthquakes, volcanoes and environmental pollution can benefit from a multi-risk approach.
00:40We are in the second third of the development of the project, which will end at the end of 2025.
00:45We are beginning to have not only a significant enrichment of the community, because the water-related risks are coming to an end, so participation is increasing,
00:54and above all we are beginning to have operative products that can be of interest and use by local entities or even by subjects that are pre-located.
01:07For example, the project proposes methodologies that are able to make forecasts on a more punctual scale and that could help to intercept sudden and very intense rainfall, which instead escape ordinary forecasts that we are used to.
01:27A central element is the interoperability between the different technologies and analysis tools to quantify the impacts accumulated on the territory, infrastructures and social contexts.
01:38Each group has developed its own technologies, with very strong points of technology that can be found in some research groups,
01:51with the aim of making these different technologies speak to each other, always in the spirit of contributing to increase the resilience of our communities, of our territories,
02:03with respect to natural risks and with respect to the changes to which the territories will be subjected from now on.
02:12Particular attention is also paid to the assessments carried out for urban and metropolitan settlements, critical infrastructures and sites of historical and artistic interest.
02:21The mapping of risk areas is a fundamental step to reduce the impact of environmental risks of natural or anthropogenic origin.
02:31It is fundamental because it allows us to anticipate where events can occur that impact the population and the socio-economic fabric in general.
