00:00like previous many years girls outperformed boys in this year's CBSE exams the same was
00:10true in the class 10 results of the ICSE board as well so I found this trend to be very consistent
00:15over the past few years and I've always asked myself why why does this happen so I did some
00:20research and found some really startling facts I will tell you all about it in this video I'm
00:24Manish Adhikari and you're watching first things fast it's not just academics for girls outperform
00:29boys across the board and globally women lead in unexpected places they live longer save more
00:35drive safer and are less likely to commit crimes now studies also show women have stronger immune
00:41systems better credit scores and higher emotional intelligence that's a given isn't it they vote
00:48more they pollute less and even deliver better investment returns from childhood girls tend to
00:53focus better and complete homework more consistently okay now let's return to the latest visuals from
00:58india these clips show elated teachers warm congratulations being passed around boxes of
01:03sweet changing hands and beaming smiles on the faces of girls everywhere now all these girls delivered
01:08an outstanding performance in their board exams 92.7 percent of the total girls who appeared for this
01:14year's cbsc boards passed the exam the percentage for boys 89.9 that's a gap of 2.8 percent now let me
01:21take you to the research we did this study published in the psychological bulletin by the american psychological
01:25association looked at data from 1914 to 2011 that's more than 100 years covering over 1.1 million
01:33students across more than 30 countries it found that girls have consistently scored higher grades than
01:37boys for nearly a hundred years the difference is most visible in language subjects but by middle school
01:43girls begin to outperform boys in math and science as well why does this happen the researchers found that
01:49girls generally study to understand the subject while boys tend to focus more on just getting the grades
01:55researchers say this is what leads to girls scoring better grades overall girls also tend to be more
02:00consistent with homework a similar study by cambridge university press and assessment one of the largest
02:05of its kind in the uk showed that girls outperform boys from age of four all the way through university
02:10but even with stronger academic records the study pointed out that this early advantage does not always
02:16translate into better outcomes in the workplace women remain underrepresented in stem careers and
02:22leadership roles and pay gaps as you would know are still very common the real challenge is whether
02:27society is ready to match girls' academic achievements with equal opportunities in life beyond school
