00:00Hi and welcome to In the Doghouse with Gloria. I'm Kristen Herman. This, of course, is Gloria.
00:26And with us again, coming back, is Wolf from Justice Rescue. Thanks for coming in again.
00:31Thanks for having us.
00:32So October, obviously Halloween, we get to dress ourselves up, our kids, our pets.
00:37But it's also Adopt a Shelter Pet Month.
00:40Why would you say it's important to adopt versus, say, buying from a breeder at a pet store?
00:45There are millions of animals that can turn into shelters each year.
00:49And there's millions that end up getting euthanized because they can't move them to homes.
00:54Shelter animals are great. They're not broken. There's nothing wrong with them.
00:59They just unfortunately had ended up in the shelter, mostly no fault of their own, and they need loving homes.
01:05So say you're considering adopting a pet yourself.
01:08You're going to go to a shelter. You're going to pick out your new forever friend.
01:11What should you bring with you? Anything specific? And what should you think about prior to doing so?
01:16Yes, you want to make sure that, first of all, that everybody in the family agrees and can take part in caring for that animal.
01:24So many times we have people that want to adopt for gifts, and then the dogs end up coming back if they do.
01:31So first of all, getting all the family on board, making sure that the animals in your care have the proper licenses and vaccinations and that kind of thing.
01:40And then go speak to an adoption counselor and have them help you choose the dog for your home because they know them.
01:47They know the energy levels and whether they're dog selective or however that goes.
01:52Okay, so you've adopted this shelter pet, and it's amazing. You are one of the people that supply these wonderful animals to these shelters.
02:02You save their lives, basically, through Justice Rescue. What inspired you to start rescuing?
02:08I didn't realize how much animal abuse was still in today's day and age.
02:13There's a lot of heinous crimes such as dogfighting, torture, heinous abuse.
02:18There's not another organization like ours that would progressively go to the urban areas and search for the animals being abused and rescue them from the hands of the abusers.
02:29That's one of the things that impresses me most about Justice Rescue is you don't only just wait until someone calls you and reports abuse.
02:36You actually, I saw a video of you guys just driving around during the winter and you found a dog that was out freezing in the cold.
02:42And in some cases, you saved them in just the nick of time.
02:45Yeah, that's not an uncommon occurrence. We do that daily, 365 in the storms and the hurricanes.
02:54It doesn't matter. We're out there arresting animals that are left outside or the fighting or whatever the abuse is.
03:01We, more or less, will find animals that nobody is fighting for and help them.
03:07So, obviously, shelter dogs, shelter pets, they're just wonderful.
03:11I can vouch for Gloria and so many people do it every day.
03:15Adopt, don't shop, and head to our website, 957benfm.com, keyword Melee,
