00:00We'll start off with some of the pitchers going Monday and Saturday.
00:05Actually, there's just one that I see here on the board.
00:07We got Clay Holmes of the New York Mets at Minnesota and then Saturday at home against St. Louis.
00:15Holmes is probably one of those pitchers that could potentially be out there.
00:19But, Joe, what's happening with him is the strikeout numbers are starting to pile up here a little bit.
00:24Of course, he was a reliever, so he's not going to go that deep into the games.
00:28But I kind of like what I have seen thus far.
00:30He's also had a little bit of bad luck with some bad defense.
00:33And these are some pretty good starts.
00:35I mean, Minnesota's offense is not a juggernaut anymore.
00:38I personally think the Cardinals at the end of the year are going to be one of the worst teams in baseball.
00:42I know it hasn't hit yet, but I think they're going to hit a reset at some point this season.
00:48So, yeah, I mean, I don't mind this at all for those two starts.
00:52I just don't know how many leagues he'd be available in.
00:54You probably could speak to that more than me.
00:55Well, right now, he's not available in a lot of leagues.
00:58It's whether or not you want to start him.
01:00He is rostered in 92% of leagues on CBS, which is typically a good gauge.
01:04And as you look, the ERA is a little inflated because he hasn't thrown six innings yet.
01:07And I think that's smart.
01:08I think in April, because he was a converted reliever, you want to go very slowly with him,
01:13especially in this first month.
01:14So I don't care if he feels good.
01:16You're kind of limiting that pitch count.
01:17You're making sure that he gets to the fifth inning.
01:20Okay, and then we'll figure it out through there because the Mets have their sets, their
01:25eyes set on the playoffs and you want a guy like Clay Holmes available then.
01:29So I think maybe him in April is very smart.
01:31These two matchups at Minnesota, I think is a pretty good one.
01:34You know, you're still missing some pieces in that Minnesota lineup and obviously some
01:37pitchers too on the IL, right?
01:39You've got Pablo Lopez on the IL.
01:40St. Louis, the worst ERA as a team right now, and they're moving to a six-man rotation
01:45as if adding another pitcher to this mix somehow is going to make it better.
01:49I don't know, but I would take my chances there with these two starts.
01:54The Mets are a very good offense.
01:55They're going to put runs on the board.
01:57So I feel pretty confident to hear about Clay Holmes this week.
02:00I do want to just point out, you know, that last start, we had the 10 strikeouts.
02:04I was against the Marlins, back-to-back games against them.
02:07So two of these three outings against the Marlins, the one where he really did struggle
02:10was against Houston, a much better lineup.
02:12But I think these are two favorable matchups I would still take.
02:16All right.
02:16I do like our next pitcher a lot, Jeffrey Springs.
02:19I liked him a lot in Tampa.
02:20I do like him with the A's.
02:23It's been a little bit uneven.
02:24It's really hard to pitch in Sacramento.
02:26But I think for you to get him against the White Sox, Joe, even though he's got a tougher
02:31matchup against the Brewers, is worth rolling the dice here for because that's a premium
02:36matchup against Chicago.
02:38I mean, you mentioned the Marlins.
02:39I'd rather face the White Sox right now.
02:41Like, they had just come up with a losing streak of, was it eight again?
02:46Eight in a row?
02:46Something like that.
02:47So bad.
02:48Yeah.
02:49So I'd be in on this.
02:50And look, the Brewers do have two or three special hitters in their lineup.
02:54But I think that this is a solid two-star pitcher here.
02:59It is.
02:59I think what you do here, and even though these games are at home, so there's danger of the
03:02home run ball, you look at that White Sox lineup where they're just terrible.
03:06I know Chase Meidroff came up, so he's probably floating around on waiver wires.
03:09He's going to be the pretty much everyday shortstop.
03:11In points leagues, he's very good in OBP leagues, too.
03:13A guy with a very high on base percentage.
03:15So consider picking him up if he's floating around the waiver wire.
03:18I think he can help you there.
03:19He's going to walk a ton.
03:20But to your point, Jeffrey Springs still has, you know, 16 strikeouts, seven walks, two
03:24to one ratio there.
03:25ERA is four.
03:27It is a tough ballpark for home runs.
03:29There's no doubt about that right now.
03:30But I like Jeffrey Springs, too.
03:32I would take my chances here.
03:33I'm starting because of the White Sox, and then I'm hoping I can get out of Dodge with
03:37at least a quality start and maybe some more strikeouts at best against the Brewers.
03:41And hopefully Jackson Cheerio doesn't take him yard two or three times.
03:44That would be the hope.
03:45But yeah, I think Springs is another guy that I feel pretty good about starting this week.
