After the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a strong statement saying the Waqf Board had become a means of loot and illegal land occupation. He said no board would now be allowed to encroach on public land. Instead, such land will be used to build schools, hospitals, medical colleges, and housing for the poor. CM Yogi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the reform and emphasized that this move would put an end to misuse of public property under the guise of waqf. He also stated that action would be taken against illegal encroachments and land mafias. The statement is expected to trigger major political debate, especially in UP where Waqf properties are spread across many areas.
