The Morning Roast discusses the amazing win for the Warriors over the Lakers and the young Dubs helping make it happen.
Transcript
00:00The standings, for all of it, Joe Shasky, that was incredible last night.
00:04That was as about impressive a regular season win I have seen for this team in quite some time.
00:11We talk so much about the big three and stars and all that.
00:14I want to start the show off praising the youngsters.
00:18Brandon Podziemski, the half of his life, hitting huge shots down the stretch.
00:23The half court.
00:24What about the much maligned Jonathan Kaminga?
00:27Everybody wants to rip this guy.
00:29He came back from a catastrophic injury.
00:31I'm wearing his jersey today.
00:33Let's go.
00:33Shout out Young Guido for hooking me up with the Kaminga jersey.
00:37All right.
00:37He played phenomenal.
00:40Quinton Post, at the end of the game, wasn't pretty.
00:42But early, he was trying to get bodied and he went right back in.
00:45A baby hook.
00:46I didn't even know he had it in him.
00:47He was jawing with LeBron.
00:49How about Moses Moody?
00:50Now, the box score isn't going to tell you the activity for Moses Moody.
00:55Working his butt off in the passing lanes.
00:57Deflecting shots.
00:58Trying to scrap for rebounds.
00:59I thought Kaminga was rebounding like a maniac.
01:01Guy Santos, positive minutes.
01:04All the young players contributed.
01:06I know.
01:07Steph Curry is the lead dog.
01:09I know.
01:09At the end of the game, Jimmy Butler coming through.
01:11I know.
01:12Draymond Green, Hall of Famer.
01:14Unbelievable strips.
01:15There's no doubt about it.
01:18Yesterday, yes, the headliner might be the big three.
01:21It might be the Warriors.
01:23But to me, watching this team inside and out, the youngsters showed up in L.A.
01:29The youngsters brought it.
01:31The youngsters brought energy, flow, shot making, tenacity.
01:36Didn't back down.
01:38I am so happy for the youngsters.
01:41I really am.
01:42We want to crush you.
01:43The youngsters, you're holding back the big three.
01:45No, the youngsters showed up in L.A.
01:48Shout out to those watching on YouTube.

01:56It's the same number to call or text today.
01:59And I want to hear from the people.
02:00It's the biggest win in the regular season until maybe tonight when you take all the
02:04Denver Nuggets at home to start this homestand.
02:06By the way, they finished four and two on that road trip after starting 0-2 early on,
02:11losing to the Hawks to the Heat.
02:13They have now won four straight and none bigger than that win last night in La La Land,
02:19in that building against LeBron James, against Luka Doncic, against Austin Reeves,
02:23against J.J. Redick, who was salty during those in-game interviews with Allie LaForce of TNT.
02:29All of that baked into it.
02:30And at the very end, you heard the MVP chants in that building, in that arena, for one,
02:36Stephen Curry.
02:37Yeah, he was dynamic.
02:38He was.
02:39And he was getting to the line.
02:40He was getting those free throws.
02:42Jimmy Butler, by the way, I think we were all waiting.
02:44I even said, I was like, this is the Jimmy Butler game.
02:46He's going to solidify himself as a Golden State Warrior.
02:49He was doing some forearm injury.
02:50Hopefully, it's nothing too concerning going forward for him.
02:52He did come back into the game of the fourth quarter after missing some time,
02:55and he was clutch defensively and on the offensive end when you needed to get,
02:59you know, fouls on the other team.
03:01Jimmy going at Austin Reeves.
03:02He got his matchups when he wanted to, and I thought he was clutch towards him.
03:06Draymond Green, talking about the big three.
03:09Draymond setting the tone defensively, and he's going to be the DPOI.
03:13I think just last night solidified it for me.
03:16And again, I don't think the fact that they reviewed it for a flagrant,
03:20he had a hard foul, quote unquote, on LeBron.
03:22He tried to hold him up.
03:23I wanted it to be harder.
03:23I know you did.
03:24We were talking on the chat.
03:25I wanted it to be a lot harder.
03:26We were talking about setting the tone yesterday.
03:28But that is what I like to see.
03:31And him constantly coaching up the young players throughout the game.
03:34Hey, pods, you know what?
03:37You can't let, you know, Austin Reeves or Luka foul bait you like that.
03:40It's okay.
03:40Keep your hands up.
03:41Hey, Quentin Post, same thing.
03:43Guy Santos constantly coaching and the young guys, as you were saying,
03:48them stepping up the way they did in that building on the road.
03:52Because there's a possibility you see this team again.
03:55Oh, regular season.
03:56Bring them on the first round.
03:57Bring them on.
03:58How much more confidence do you have going up against the Lakers?
04:01That version of the Lakers is your first round series.
04:03Then you did at this time yesterday.
04:05I think it's an infinitely more.
04:09And the fact that they didn't have Anthony Davis yesterday,
04:12I thought was noticeable the entire game.
04:14Did you hear about how many cuts did they have?
04:16Just driving to the right lane and no one was in their face at all.
04:20Not none at all.
04:21I mean, there's so many elements I got.
04:22I got a full clip today in the words of John Moran for Luka, for the refs, for LeBron.
04:28But did you hear?
04:29Did you hear?
04:29They just announced like this morning, all the new city connects for next year.
04:35It's not Los Lakers, Los Lagos.
04:37No, no, no, no, no.
04:38The crybaby connects.
04:39They're coming out.
04:40They're coming out.
04:40The crybaby connects a giant teardrop coming from the Laker logo.
04:45It's coming out with palms up, bitching and complaining to the referees.
04:49Now play my song because the youngsters don't get me wrong.
04:52Draymond, Jimmy.
04:54When I hear Stevie Wonder and I'm going to a higher ground,
04:58I'm thinking about why that wind was so impactful because now I know.
05:03Jonathan Kaminga is a force to be reckoned with in these perimeter
05:07matchup games that we know we're going to need them.
05:10Potts, Pudzemski, who I've doubted.
05:13I've had my criticisms.
05:14He played not only winning basketball in both halves.
05:17He was dynamic scoring.
05:19He brought his game to a higher ground.
05:21How about Moses Moody taking on the Luka assignment and just given the crybaby Luka,
05:27the European hardened just fits after fits after fits.
05:31You know what?
05:31They might change the NBA logo to Luka on the ground,
05:35kicking and screaming like a crybaby.
05:37I'm so sick of watching that guy play basketball.
05:40Luka, shut up and play basketball.
05:44And then we get to my guy, Quinton Post, who you think he's soft?
05:48You think he's soft?
05:48Did you see him in the lane with the baby hook?
05:51Yeah, it looked a little ugly at the end of the game,
05:53but I loved what I saw from Quinton Post.
05:55And then Guy the guy, Guy the guy making plays, the glue guy.
05:59I loved everything about it.
06:00The youngsters are bringing the big three to a higher ground.
06:05As you look up this morning, not only are we the five seed,
06:08we are aiming for the three seed, baby.
06:11The three seed, baby.
06:13Let's go, Steven, crank it, crank it.
06:19And you know what else?
06:20It gets better.
06:20Science opening day is today.
06:23We got the nuggie nugs.
06:24We got Jokic and the other crybaby, Mike Malone, who's the real dynasty.
06:29We're the real dynasty.
06:31It's not done yet.
06:32You better put a stake through Steph Curry's heart.
06:35Because that guy is going to keep rising just like the sun.
06:39Let's go.
06:40You feeling pretty good about yourself?
06:42What do you think?
06:43Sounds pretty happy.
06:44I just wanted to make sure.
06:46LeBron James, they should have put a chalk line out.
06:49The guy lied on the ground like he got shot by a cannon in the first half.
06:53And then seconds later, I'm fine.
06:55I'm good to go.
06:56You got the wind knocked out of him.
06:57I'm so sick of LeBron.
06:58Really?
06:59Yes.
06:59Okay.
07:00You won the game.
07:01I don't know why you're so sick of everything.
07:02You should be happy with that.
07:04There's the motion offense.
07:05There's the triangle offense.
07:07Then there's the Laker offense.
07:08Which is bitching and complaining to the referees on every possession.
07:12It's foul bait offense.
07:14I can't watch it.
07:15Look, I have all these criticisms for John Morant and other players in the league.
07:18At least they play basketball.
07:20Luka, play basketball.
07:22Just play basketball.
07:24And all that fear yesterday of the whistle being in favor of the Lakers yesterday.
07:2831 free throw attempts.
07:29Because the Lakers hacked.
07:31Because they're a hack.
07:32They have not one good defender.
07:34They were guarding Steph Curry with Austin the hack Reeves.
07:37An excellent offensive player.
07:39Horrific defender.
07:41Horrific defender.
07:42Can I finish?
07:4331 free throw attempts.
07:44They got to the lane.
07:45They got to the foul line.
07:46I don't want to hear any more about that.
07:48They did.
07:48They did their job yesterday.
07:50They were the more physical team.
07:51Start to finish.
07:52And they exposed the Lakers and their defense.
07:55And we were talking about it all show yesterday.
07:57Say what you about them offensively.
07:58And offensively, it was a struggle even then.
08:00Because give credit to the Warriors defense.
08:02And all the young guys stepping up.
08:04And picking them up.
08:05Especially Luka.
08:06Full court.
08:07The Kamingas.
08:08The Moody's.
08:08Getting their face.
08:09I thought Jonathan Kaminga who didn't back down at all in that game.
08:12Whether it was against LeBron.
08:13Whether it was against Luka.
08:15Like they're going to get theirs at times.
08:16Because they're just generational offensive talents.
08:19But Luka, that might have been the worst game I've seen him play all season long.
08:22And I'm giving Kaminga a lot of that credit.
08:24I'm giving Moses Moody a lot of that credit.
08:26At times if it was Buddy Heald or Guy Santos, right?
08:29Like I thought everyone contributed yesterday.
08:32It was a total team effort and a team win.
08:34I know it's cliche to say that.
08:36No, it was.
08:36But that's what you're going to need come playoff time.
08:39And these are playoff games.
08:40And that was a playoff atmosphere.
08:42We talked about this a hundred percent.
08:43It was chippy.
08:44Like everyone's like, oh man.
08:45Like the foul calling.
08:47No, it was tense.
08:48It was tight throughout that game.
08:49And every time the Lakers tried to make a run.
08:53Every time they tried to cut it to single digits.
08:54Like eight points it felt like.
08:55And then seven towards the halfway through the fourth quarter they got to.
09:00Every single time like they got us up on the Warriors.
09:02The Warriors would get an offensive rebound.
09:03It was insane.
09:04And then they'd kick it.
09:05And whether it was Draymond.
09:06Whether it was Steph.
09:08Whether it was Moses.
09:08Whether it was Brandon.
09:09Kaminga had a three.
09:11And then if Jimmy Butler's hitting the three like he did in that fourth quarter.
09:13Like, okay.
09:14Like then you're playing with house money.
09:17We might just have something here.
09:18And it was an incredible win.
09:19By the way, we're coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
09:22Laughing Monk, righteously brewed in San Francisco.
09:24I'm sure there was a lot of people at Laughing Monk last night, Joe.
09:27Enjoying that Warriors win.
09:28Brought to you by Golden State.
09:29Serving the Bay Area for three generations.
09:31When you succeed, we succeed.
09:32Visit GoldenStateLumber.com.
09:33The phone lines are already popping again.
09:35888-957-9570.
09:37Call or text.
09:38Yeah.
09:38Biggest win of the season.
09:40And they're not done yet.
09:40Because they're back home tonight.
09:42Taking all the Denver Nuggets and all that coverage right here on 95.
09:44Joey, it might be April 4th.
09:46But in the words of Stevie Wonder, it's hotter than the 4th of July up in here.
09:49My brother's birthday.
09:49I wish him a happy birthday.
09:50Happy birthday, Rob.
09:51There you go.
09:52Whose birthday?
09:53My brother, Rob.
09:53Rob Spadoni.
09:54Happy birthday, Rob.
09:55There you go.
09:55I hope your birthday's booming.
09:58C-T-E-S-P-M.
09:59You know, the Warriors, man.
10:01They're the best show in sports when they're rolling.
10:03It's just, yesterday, the final four minutes, Austin Reeves, Steph, Kaminga.
10:08It was incredible.
10:08The shot making was out of this world at the end of that game.
10:12Pons hitting the three at the end.
10:14The shot before the halftime was just such a momentum swing.
10:17Because the Lakers get a bucket and you're thinking, oh no.
10:20You got to walk out with some momentum from this half.
10:23You played a perfect first half.
10:24I thought it was poetic, if you will.
10:26Remember the last time the Lakers played the Warriors.
10:29Like, what was the biggest game since probably yesterday?
10:32Was game six down in Los Angeles a couple years ago.
10:35And at the half, who hit the half court buzzer beater?
10:37It was Austin Reeves over Jordan Poole.
10:39And it felt like, at the time, it wasn't a dagger per se.
10:41But looking back, it probably was.
10:43And I felt the same thing last time at Pajamskie.
10:45Lakers probably were feeling pretty good that they cut it to 10 at the half.
10:48It's like, okay, we got kind of pretty much dominated.
10:50We missed 12 shots in that second quarter, basically.
10:52And then we were getting dominated.
10:53Okay, 10 points.
10:54We can deal with that.
10:55But 13, the way he was playing, the swagger that he was playing with,
10:59yeah, that felt like a gut punch for them.
11:01If Brandon Pajamskie, who we talked about yesterday,
11:03they're going to leave open.
11:04J.J. Redick has talked about it.
11:05He made him pay.
11:068 of 10 from beyond the arc.
11:07Draymond Green made him pay.
11:09I get it.
11:102 of 4.
11:10But he was selective with it.
11:128 points, 11 boards for him, and 5 assists as well for Draymond.
11:17Just peak Draymond stat line.
11:19Incredible performance by him on both ends of the floor, as far as I'm concerned.
11:23Getting into it with Luke at the line.
11:24That was great.
11:25Good stuff.
11:26I kind of want to be a fly on the wall with those guys.
11:28We're talking smack with each other.
11:30And then Steph.
11:31I mean, we talked about it, and it's been a conversation.
11:34His shooting in Los Angeles against the Lakers in that arena,
11:39it's been widely documented.
11:4137 points for him.
11:44Not his greatest shooting night from beyond the arc, but 4 of 11.
11:47But you felt like every single one of those threes
11:49were just big gut punches and momentum swings.
11:52Every single time that he was able to do one of those,
11:55it felt like it was off a second chance opportunity
11:57because they were just dominating the second chance points again yesterday.
12:0010 of 21 overall for him.
12:0237 to lead all scores yesterday as the Warriors win 123-116.
12:07We're gonna be breaking it down again all morning long.
12:10It's all about y'alls and your calls.
12:12Biggest win of the season.
12:13I want to hear from the fan base today.
12:14It's opening day.
12:15Vibes should be good.
12:16You just beat the Lakers.
12:17You beat the Grizzlies.
12:18And now you're coming for blood tonight against the Nuggets.
12:21Everyone said, hey,
12:22let's see what they do against the big boys in the West, right?
12:24Let's see him do it.
12:24Oh, the Blazers.
12:26Oh, the Wizards.
12:27Oh, all these like the Pelicans.
12:28No, no, no, no.
12:29Let's see you do it against the Lakers.
12:30Let's see you do it against the Rockets.
12:32Let's see you doing this.
12:32The Grizzlies and Nuggets.
12:33Well, they've already taken down half of those teams
12:35and they got the Nuggets and the Rockets this weekend.
12:37Yeah, I have a great feeling about tonight.
12:39And I think the veterans are all going to play
12:41according to Steve Kerr,
12:42who talked to the media yesterday about it after the win.
12:44Yeah, I'm feeling pretty damn good right now.
12:46And the sky's the limit for this Warriors team
12:48heading into a crucial, crucial stretch.
12:51And I'm impressed.
12:52I'm impressed.
12:53On the road, on the road,
12:56you need role players to step up.
12:58Yes, you need your stars.
13:00There's that, duh, it goes without saying.
13:02I identified, I didn't even think Camingo was going to play.
13:04I said, Moody, Pods, Gee, and Quinton Post need to give me 45.
13:09Well, that four gave me 47.
13:12Add in the 18 from JK, you got 65.
13:16And we didn't even know JK was going to play yesterday.
13:18JK had two, not one, two different buckets at the rim
13:23in the final five minutes.
13:24I thought JK's rebounding, his ferocity,
13:28his aggressiveness early in the game.
13:31I was like, you don't think we need JK?
13:33And look, I will be the first hit man.
13:35It has looked clunky.
13:36It's been really lonely on Camingo Island.
13:39I've been on Camingo Island, I feel like kind of by myself,
13:42you know, with a couple of other people, me,
13:44Bonte for at times,
13:45but he's on everyone on the Warriors Island.
13:48You know what I mean?
13:49Like there's only a handful of us.
13:50And like, if we're going to crush these guys,
13:53let's also praise them.
13:54So the people that have been blasting JK,
13:56do you see why you need them?
13:58Do you see why you need them against
13:59an elite perimeter offensive team?
14:02When you're looking and you're going,
14:04Austin Reeves is tough to guard.
14:06LeBron's tough to guard.
14:07Lucas tough to guard.
14:08We don't have enough bodies.
14:09And I'll be the first to admit it.
14:11I have been critical more than most of Podjemski.
14:14I feel like everybody loves Podjemski.
14:16He brings a lot to the table.
14:17I've been critical.
14:18He was outstanding yesterday.
14:20Offensively, defensively,
14:21the points are going to get the big,
14:24you know, headlining because he was so decisive
14:26and he was just scoring it well.
14:27He just played an all around great floor game.
14:29He had a horrible turnover,
14:31completely made up for it with a big rebound later.
14:34He just, the guy brings it to the table every single time.
14:38And I thought Moses Moody was outstanding in this game.
14:41The box score doesn't tell how good Moses Moody was.
14:44We know it's Dre.
14:45We know it's Steph.
14:46I know Jimmy Butler's is awesome.
14:47I'm just telling you guys,
14:49the youngsters to me was the big story
14:51because that's a road game, TNT,
14:54playoff-like atmosphere against not stars, megastars.
14:59Luca is a megastar.
15:00Megawiner, megastar.
15:02LeBron, megawiner, megastar.
15:05Mega, mega, megastar.
15:06And then, you know, Austin Reeves, say what you will,
15:08that dude is tough as nails.
15:10He's a hell of a player.
15:11Austin Reeves is a hell of a player.
15:13If you can't come out of that game thinking,
15:16damn, he's a problem.
15:17I don't know what to tell you.
15:18But what did the Warriors do yesterday
15:20that I've begged them to do for months?
15:22And I got to give Steve Kerr credit.
15:24They hunted the weak defenders.
15:27They went at Luca over and over and over again.
15:30And I loved it.
15:31I just, I loved their entire game plan.
15:34I loved how quickly, you know,
15:36Kerr was on it with all the substitution patterns.
15:38They felt the sense of urgency from the tip.
15:42The Warriors have won four straight road games,
15:45winners of 10 of their last 13 played away from home,
15:48and Golden State improved to 22 and 17
15:51on the road this season.
15:52Talking about the road Warriors,
15:53I think they're officially back.
15:54And when you win in an atmosphere like that,
15:56coming off the atmosphere that you won over the Grizzlies,
15:58who, by the way, had a huge win yesterday.
16:00I know you mentioned it.
16:01That was a big win for them.
16:02And the Warriors can't let their foot off the gas.
16:03They're back home now.
16:05And they're going to be facing a Denver team
16:06that has been resting for quite a few days
16:08because some of their big boys did not play
16:10in their loss to San Antonio a couple of days ago.
16:12So I'm going to be very curious to see
16:15the minute allocation tonight.
16:16And again, we can worry about tonight over the weekend.
16:18We'll have a couple of games to react to on Monday.
16:21But for right now,
16:22if you look at the Western Conference standings,
16:23if you're just waking up on this Friday,
16:25you got the Thunder, the one seed, locked in.
16:27They've won 11 in a row.
16:28You got the Rockets as the two seed.
16:30I'm pretty sure they're going to probably stay there.
16:32We'll see.
16:33And then you got the Nuggets at the three.
16:35Remember, they flip-flopped with the Lakers yesterday,
16:37but now they flip-flopped back.
16:38So Denver at three, Lakers at four still.
16:41Just a game above the Warriors,
16:42but they do have the tie break over them,
16:43the three and one now, head-to-head.
16:45So it's really a two-game lead,
16:46but right there over the Warriors.
16:48And the Grizzlies right behind the Warriors.
16:50And they got the T-Wolves, Clippers, Mavericks, Kings.
16:52But the Warriors can't let up
16:53because if they lose tonight and the Nuggets win,
16:56and then you got a Minnesota Timberwolves win
16:58or a Memphis Grizzlies win,
16:59all of a sudden you're flip-flopped back
17:01and you can find yourself back in the plan.
17:02So they cannot let their foot off the gas.
