00:00My Outro For My 20th Birthday
00:30Hello and welcome to Latest TV News, I'm Sam Morton, reporter for Sussex World and
00:38in this week's show we'll be reflecting on Brighton Hove Albion's FA Cup quarter
00:42final against Nottingham Forest and mid-week Premier League battle versus fellow European
00:47hopefuls Aston Villa. First, here are the top stories from across Sussex.
00:52A teenager has been charged with murder after the death of a man at a property in Brighton.
00:58Police said Fabio Botros, 19, of Hartfield Avenue in Brighton, has been charged with
01:03murder and attempted murder after three people were attacked on Tuesday April 1st. Emergency
01:09services responded to reports of a disturbance in Hartfield Avenue on Tuesday where they
01:13found two victims, a woman and a boy, outside the property with injuries. Both were treated
01:18at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment. They have both since
01:21been discharged. A third victim, 57-year-old Emad Sameer Botros Farag, was found inside
01:27the property with a significant head injury and tragically he was pronounced deceased
01:32at the scene. Officers quickly arrested Fabio Botros near to the address and he was taken
01:36to custody, police said. On Wednesday April 2nd, the 19-year-old was charged with murder
01:41and two counts of attempted murder. On the day of recording, the suspect was due
01:45to appear before Brighton Magistrates Court. For more updates on the case, see sussexworld.co.uk.
01:51The police have reminded motorists to be aware of delays on the A27 in East Sussex. A lane
01:56closure has been put in place on the eastbound carriageway prior to the junction with the
02:00A23 and continues until the Hollingbury Junction. National Highway said works were paused on
02:05Wednesday night to minimise disruption for those travelling to the Brighton vs Aston
02:09Villa match. The lane closure is part of drainage and resurfacing work on the A27 and the current
02:15phase of that scheme involves removing the central reservation barrier. Photos show the
02:19clearest of caravan debris in Brighton this week after a suspected arson attack. A fire
02:24broke out at a caravan parked on Wilson Avenue on Thursday March 20th at about 2am. Sussex
02:30Police confirmed that the fire is believed to have been caused deliberately and is being
02:33treated as arson. Witnesses or anyone with information can report it to police online
02:38or by calling 101 quoting serial 80 of the 19th March.
02:43A town centre restaurant has shut its doors for the final time. Don Chevy Kitchen and
02:47Bar in Montague Place, Worthing put a message on his Facebook page on Monday March 31st
02:52to let customers know it had closed. It came on the same day as news was revealed that
02:56Roly's Fudge Kitchen round the corner in Montague Street had also closed down.
03:01Finally, a new cafe is set to open in Southwick. The Flowerpot Bakery, an artisan bakery with
03:06stores across Brighton, Hove and Worthing has unveiled plans for a new store in Sussex.
03:11They said big news, the Flowerpot is coming to Southwick Square. We're beyond excited
03:15to announce they'll be opening a brand new cafe and production bakery in Southwick Square
03:19very soon. They said this new space will not only serve up its signature sourdough,
03:24pastries and coffee, but will also be home to part of the bakery production. They said
03:29they can't wait to welcome customers with full details coming soon.
03:32Yes, guys, how's it going? I'm Henry Bright. That's Sam Mawson. We're reporters for Sussex
03:37World and we've just watched Brighton lose 3-0 at home to Aston Villa in a Premier League
03:42fixture. So Sam, talk to me about that game. Were Brighton unlucky in this one?
03:47It was a poor performance, really, from a Brighton point of view. They were looking
03:50to bounce back from that FA Cup disappointment on Saturday and I kind of did feel worse going
03:56into it. I felt like morale would be low, some key players out. And you looked at the
04:00line-up and there was a few questionable decisions, I think. Carlos Bale were out and
04:04obviously that hasn't gone well previously. But Brighton, just lacking something, really.
04:10Just a little bit of cutting edge and there's a little bit of lack of confidence in those
04:13forward areas. They never really looked like scoring in the first half, which ended goalless.
04:18And then Villa come out in the second half and obviously take the lead through Marcus
04:23Rashford. And from a Brighton point of view, really poor goal to concede from their own
04:27corner. Obviously, to concede from that point of view is really disappointing. But they
04:33did respond really well, actually, with Simon Odinga scoring. A bit of a kind of a scrappy
04:38goalmouth scramble with Matoma getting the ball across. Martinez couldn't quite keep
04:43hold of the ball and it looked like a brilliant response and equaliser. But BAR gets involved
04:48and obviously rules out the goal for what was a Matoma handball. And morale kind of
04:53dropped again after that and Villa ended up running away with it, unfortunately, with
04:56Asensio coming off the bench to make it 2-0 and Marlon also coming off the bench to make
05:00it 3-0. So, a real disappointing night at the office for Brighton and obviously a damaging
05:06one in that race for Europe as well. Absolutely. And how do you think that that's made them
05:11feel, especially after that quarterfinal penalty shootout defeat to Nottingham Forest as well?
05:16Yeah, it's two really poor results, really. I mean, Brighton obviously have been on a
05:20great run of form since that horrible performance of Nottingham Forest in February. They bounced
05:27back so well and they kind of went into that FA Cup game looking for revenge against Forest
05:31and it didn't happen. And as I say, got some injuries coming into this and you kind of
05:36feared it would be a difficult game against an in-form and confident Villa side and a point
05:40probably would have been a good result. But unfortunately, that goal that was disallowed
05:45really did change things. I felt like if that had been given, it could have been a completely
05:49different thing. Brighton would have been confident, the fans were up, but it just kind
05:52of added to a real downer on the way things were going when that goal was disallowed and
05:56it just summed things up for Brighton at the moment. And as we know, things in football
05:59change so quickly. It was only last week, we obviously were on a high and playing really
06:03well with two really bad results, unfortunately. It's not looking too good.
06:08No, it really isn't, especially with what they're looking to achieve this season with
06:12European spots. And you can catch reaction from this game and more at sussexworld.co.uk.
06:18New Terrace is amazing. I think what it's meant for Brighton and the atmosphere around
06:23here, before you would walk through, wouldn't even pay attention, look at the shop, go into
06:28the game. It's now people vibing, the sun's out, the beers are going down well. It's going
06:33great. The way Brighton have been getting bigger and bigger, there's more international
06:36powers with people like Cameron Matoma coming in and so many other players. I think places
06:42like this that people can go to, especially on away days and everything like that, just
06:46come here and just have a good time. You don't have to worry about it, get some beers. It's
06:50good. It's a great idea and it's really bringing people together. It gives a space for the
06:54fans to come before the game, chill out, talk to each other, hang around afterwards,
06:59even come and watch away games here and other sporting things going on. They have the Eurovisions
07:03coming down here. You can come and watch it. I think it just brings the fans together even
07:07more and it's more stadiums around the country should do this. It's a really good addition.
07:12Stay tuned for the Goldmouth Action podcast.
07:24Welcome to another episode of the Goldmouth Action podcast where we
07:54take a look at all the latest goings on at Brighton, Hove Albion and Crawley Town.
07:58I'm Matt Poul and this week I'm joined by Crawley Town expert Mark Dunford, Sam Morton,
08:02who covers both Brighton and the Reds, as well as Albion fan and writer Henry Bryan.
08:07Brighton endured a miserable week to say the least as they were knocked out of the FA Cup
08:11by Nottingham Forest before falling to a comprehensive Premier League loss to fellow
08:15European contenders Aston Villa. We'll look back at those two defeats plus we'll bring you all the
08:19latest team news ahead of Albion's trip to Old Foes Crystal Palace, as well as all the latest
08:23from a rollercoaster week as ever at Crawley Town. You can read all the stories we are talking
08:28about with videos and pictures online at sussexworld.co.uk forward slash book and you
08:32can check out other great videos and shots tv.com and free view channel 262. You may also be watching
08:37on native tv so thank you very much for tuning in but we will start on Saturday when Nottingham
08:42Forest won a third straight FA Cup penalty shootout to beat Brighton and reach the semifinals
08:47for the first time in 34 years. Matt Sales was a hero for the visitors saving Jack Kinshaw and
08:52Diego Gomez but Kiksas Forest won the shootout 4-3 after the match had finished goalless.
08:57It wasn't a great game Sam was it? I think if we're being polite but did the right team advance
09:03to the final four in reflection? Well I certainly agree that it was not a good game of football.
09:08It was 120 minutes of very lacklustre football to be honest. I think both teams didn't impress
09:16in the game. I don't think either team probably deserved to win during the course of the match and
09:23I think penalty shootout obviously ended up deciding it and at that point it's a 50-50.
09:28But I just felt Brighton just it was such a massive missed opportunity and obviously they
09:32were going into the game in great form and Forest rested some really key players. Chris Wood was
09:37out injured and everything was pointing towards a Brighton win and they were just really rusty
09:42from the get-go really. They never looked like they were going to score in normal time. I think
09:46the only time they really got close to scoring was in the second half of extra time when they
09:50had a goal disallowed for offside and then Diego Gomez had a point blank header saved really well
09:57by Matt Sales. So those were the two kind of moments where you thought that Brighton were
10:03going to win it right deep into extra time but it was too little too late really.
10:07They really didn't do enough during the game and Forest probably looked more dangerous when they
10:12were going forward during the game. I know there's been people saying that Forest probably edged it
10:16and I suppose so but I think even they weren't great and this is why it's so disappointing for
10:21Brighton. They just didn't take advantage of the situations and even when they brought on Elanga
10:25and Kan-Hasan Doyin, obviously the key players that have been rested, Forest didn't really do much
10:30then either. The game was very much there for the taking for Brighton and not to mention
10:35obviously the fact that it was a very open quarter-final to get that chance to go to
10:41Wembley again. It really is a shame that they missed out on the opportunity and
10:46obviously going down to penalties and there were some question marks over who was taking them.
10:52Esther Pina wasn't on the list of takers even though he takes them regularly for Ecuador which
10:56was a bizarre one and obviously Jack Inchwood and Diego Gomez were to miss unfortunately
11:03and it can happen to anyone, don't blame them at all. A real shame that Brighton had to go out
11:08in this way and it really was a morale-sapping result really. Yes, we'll come on to that in a
11:14minute but Henry, Sam's mentioned the fact that it has been a bit of a missed opportunity. Forest
11:19joined Palace, Man City and Villa in the semi-finals of this season's FA Cup and considering
11:25the calibre of teams left in the competition, it does seem like a huge missed opportunity to lift
11:30the silverware for Brighton. I don't know if you agree necessarily? Well, I think on first glance
11:35you look at it and you think yeah, this is a big missed opportunity and in a different world I think
11:42it would be but looking from a realistic point of view, Brighton lost heavily to Nottingham Forest
11:48this season, they lost against Palace in December 3-1, they've just lost out to Aston Villa at the
11:54time of recording just in their recent game. So, when you look at those sort of things,
11:59you sort of realise that actually, although Brighton have had some real magic spells this
12:04season, they have lacked something, they've lacked that killer instinct that I think we did see with
12:12Roberto Deserbi if I'm honest and I do think Man City are going to win this one. I mean they've
12:17had a rough season for their standards but this is pretty much one of their only focuses now.
12:25I do think that they'll want this as a consolation to what's been a rather disappointing season for
12:31them. Yeah, absolutely and I'm sure Brighton fans will be cheering on their near neighbours
12:36Palace to make the final and eventually win the thing. Wednesday night saw the Seagulls
12:40suffer a 3-0 home defeat to Villa as Henry mentioned. It was a result that hurt Brighton's
12:44European ambitions and saw Villa leap from Albion into seventh place. Sum that Brighton performance
12:51up for us, Henry. How damaging is this defeat to the Seagulls' European hopes as things stand?
12:57Well, yeah, that's what we were saying. Yeah, really damaging. The scoreline was a rough one
13:03considering how Brighton started this game. It was a solid first half performance, believe it or not
13:07and Fabian Hösler actually said at the end of that game that he felt like his side had done enough
13:13in that half to win the game. I disagree and yes, Iari also hit the post save from Martinez
13:21that tipped onto the post and yeah, it seemed like there were some promising signs in that
13:26first half. We were thinking, okay, confidence did seem a little low but Albion are getting
13:31themselves into this one. Let's see what they can do in the second half but then Albion heads
13:35dropped so badly in that second half from their own corner. Saved, sorry, by Martinez. He passes
13:44it on. Then the balls floated in to Rashford. Fully stumped every Brighton player. Lewis
13:51Dunk out of position. Vibragan in no man's land and it was so, so sloppy. Rashford was able to
13:57dink the keeper. Bang, 1-0. Then you had Albion thinking they were back in the game after a
14:01Dingara score to make it 1-1 a few minutes after but Matoma was deemed to be, sorry, I can't speak.
14:09Matoma was deemed to have handballed it in the build-up and then Cashin who made his debut off
14:15the bench as centre-back misjudged a run on the wing. Let Villa run through and it was squared
14:20to Watkins and it was the killer instinct of Aston Villa that was the difference in this game. That
14:27was 2-0 and in that 10th minute of added time Marlon sealed the deal 3-0. I think to be honest,
14:35if Brighton do lose to Palace on the weekend, they're in real trouble. It's really tight up
14:40there in those European spots. There's a lot to be contested but they're at danger of losing the
14:46pack if they're not careful in this one. I think this is a real defining moment in the season. I
14:52know you can say that for the quarter-finals and whatnot but considering what Brighton are
14:57looking for, it does seem like they're not able to do this against Crystal Palace and if Crystal
15:04Palace are able to do the double over them, then it's going to be an interesting one.
15:11Brighton's fans delivered a smattering of boos when the final whistle sounded at the
15:15Amex. Sam, do you think it's more an expression of frustration than fury considering this
15:20disappointing result came hot on the heels of that FA Cup quarter-final debacle against Forest?
15:25I think so. I think it's definitely probably more frustration in that sense but we do know that
15:30football fans are fickle and there were shouts for Hertzler to lose his job after the 7-0 against
15:43Forest. So you feel like there's definitely a feeling amongst some sections of the Brighton
15:49fans that there's something not quite right with some of the tactics and some of the decisions
15:55that are made. It certainly was a questionable decision to leave out Carlos Baleba against
16:01obviously Aston Villa as well. We know it backfired at the City ground during the 7-0
16:06and Brighton have been in much better form ever since Carlos Baleba has been back in the side.
16:12So you kind of felt that Brighton obviously going into the game against Aston Villa without
16:17one of their key players was always going to spell disaster and I know there was some confusion over
16:22that and obviously there were five changes from the Forest game and yeah it's a difficult one. I
16:28think the fans are going to be frustrated. Everything was looking really good and then
16:31there's been two kind of damaging defeats in the space of a few days but football changes quickly
16:35and they can easily get back into their runner form that they were in before and you just kind
16:40of need to find a bit of cutting edge again because I feel like in the last couple of games
16:43watching Brighton they just haven't looked their free-flowing best. Matomas looked a little bit
16:46off it and Pedro has looked off the pace as well and obviously we've had Minta play against Forest
16:53and then Odinga come in against Aston Villa and yeah I think there's a little bit of uncertainty
16:58about kind of who's in the best form and who's going to play where at the moment and obviously
17:02Jorginho versus injury doesn't help and he was definitely missed against Aston Villa. So there's
17:07lots of kind of reasons for what's going on but I feel like Herstler knows kind of what he's doing.
17:13He's proved he knows what to do in these big games going into the game against Palace. They're
17:17going to want revenge for what happened earlier in the season and I feel like that's the perfect
17:21game now really just if they were to win this game it would all be forgotten about and
17:26obviously they'll be back on track once again and when you look at the table they're still
17:29well in the mix for obviously the European hunt and everything like that. So I feel like
17:37beat Palace and everything's rosy again but if they don't obviously there's going to be
17:42problems after that but I think just yeah just try and go into that game with as much confidence as
17:46you can because obviously Palace didn't have a great result against Southampton either.
17:50No, they didn't. We mentioned it there, we mentioned there Sam, they were lucky to escape
17:54with a one-all draw at the bottom of the table Southampton on Wednesday night but
17:58they did advance to the FA Cup semi-finals with a brilliant 3-0 win at Fulham on Saturday. Henry,
18:03how do you see this one going and what's the latest team news from the Albion camp?
18:08Well in terms of this one, a little fact, following their 3-1 win at the Amex Stadium
18:14in December, Crystal Palace are looking to complete their first league double over Brighton
18:18since the 1932-33 season which was the third division South and for the first time in the top
18:25flight. So although that in terms of history will be quite monumental I think like we were
18:32mentioning it could be either Rosie or a rogue sort of position for Brighton to be in you know
18:38at the end of the weekend. Will they be you know coming up or will they be crashing down even more
18:44after a few defeats that have knocked some confidence out of the Brighton side?
18:49In terms of injuries, Rutters was a big miss and he'll still be unavailable. We mentioned that
18:56Bolivar was benched against Aston Villa which raised a few questions to his condition. He did
19:01get a few minutes and I think when he did come on he looked quite positive. He wasn't able to make
19:07a massive mark in the game but then again no one really did. It was one of those sort of games for
19:12the Albion. In the 3-0 defeat as well, Herzler made four changes in one go in the 72nd minute.
19:20Jack Kinchelwood, Lewis Dunk, Jal Pedro and Diego Gomez came off and in the post-match
19:25press conference, although Herzler didn't say loads, he did say some of those were due to fatigue
19:30and potentially injury and said we will see and that's at the time of recording. He didn't really
19:34elaborate after that. Obviously Adam Webster, there's question marks over Solly March.
19:41Herzler did say that he was going to be fit to play Nottingham Forest and then he didn't make
19:46the squad which was weird. He later confirmed to us that he was injured but we'll see. It's
19:53going to be a struggle. Albion have struggled with injuries this season but this is a must-win game
19:59in my opinion as a fan. I think that it is at that time of the season now where there needs to be
20:05some consistency. At the start when Fabian came in, there were a lot of questions raised about
20:11sort of having a perfect 90 minutes and although that does sound like something no team can have,
20:18there does seem to be a lack of guile and a lack of instinct. It seems like when it comes to the
20:25end of games, Albion are very easy to fatigue and tire at times and we've seen that when Albion
20:32have been leading in certain games and even in this game, although the writing was sort of on
20:37the wall in that second half, so near the end of the game Brighton weren't able to push through.
20:43So yeah, we'll see. It's an interesting one. Yeah, it'll be a close game.
20:55you
