00:00The mood in the room, it was very collegial.
00:02We are extraordinarily grateful to the secretary that she joined us.
00:07She's here, perhaps I should give her the podium.
00:09We're extraordinarily grateful that the secretary
00:14gave us the space to have these conversations.
00:19But with all due respect, madam, I think my biggest concern is that the states
00:23will not be able to protect the programs and
00:25services that you would like to devolve with them.
00:32Morning, everyone.
00:33Thanks so much for coming.
00:34And I just want to express my gratitude to all of these folks who came today.
00:38So that we can have an open discussion about what I believe is
00:42one of the most important things that we can have a discussion on or
00:45action on in our country.
00:47And that is the education of our young people.
00:51As Representative Tanaka said as we were ending the meeting,
00:54which I thought was incredibly appropriate.
00:56And that is that this is not a partisan issue.
00:59This is about the children of America.
01:02And it's the next generation, the generation after that.
01:05And if we want to have our leaders, if we want to have that next group of
01:09engineers and doctors and lawyers and plumbers and electrician and HVAC
01:14operators, then we need to focus on how they can best have their education.
01:20And I believe, and I know the president does believe this as well,
01:23the best education is that that is closest to the child, where teachers and
01:28parents, local superintendents working together and
01:32local school boards to develop the curriculum for
01:35those students is the best way that it can happen.
01:38Funding from the United States government will continue through the programs
01:42that have already been established.
01:44And I will look forward to continuing to work with members of Congress on
01:48both sides of the aisle, and I welcome the fact that these folks came today and
01:54expressed their concerns and shared in an open collegial format,
01:57their concerns and how we can lead now to work more together.
02:00That's the way it ought to operate.
02:02And I'm very happy to have had them here.
02:04So I'm gonna let them answer the questions.
02:07I just wanted to come out and have a-
02:09Can you just answer the question, when are you gonna shut down this building?
02:12Well, we've had our discussions already.
02:14So thank you all very, very much for coming.
02:16Thank you all.
02:20As you see, she's not answering the question when she's gonna shut down
02:24the department.
