00:00Donald Trump signed an executive order to abolish the Department of Education.

00:04And here's the thing.

00:05If you go to a public school or you send your kids to public school, this will affect you.

00:11So what's really going on?

00:12Let's rewind.

00:13A few weeks ago, the Trump administration fired one out of every two federal education

00:19workers.

00:20And then the very next day, the financial aid application for millions of students went

00:25completely dark.

00:26Meaning, you need a loan to go to college?

00:28Well, you're out of luck.

00:30Then Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education.

00:34And what's happening now?

00:36Chaos.

00:37States are already ringing the alarm bells that funding for little kids' school lunches

00:42is at risk.

00:43Kids with disabilities could lose their classroom aid.

00:46High schoolers who are already panicked about college are now even less sure about what

00:51their future looks like.

00:53My very first job was as a public school teacher for kids with special needs.

00:59I have seen with my own eyes what the Department of Education does for families.

01:03And I am doing everything I can now to fight back against this attack on public education.

01:10And that's why today, I am launching Save Our Schools, a campaign to bring everyone

01:17into the fight to save public education.

01:20That means launching investigations into the impact of what Trump and Musk are doing to

01:26public education.

01:27It means working with students and teachers and lawmakers in Congress to do everything

01:34we possibly can.

01:35Now, last week, I kicked off the effort by calling for an independent investigation into

01:41the real-life consequences of these cuts.

01:44Today, I'm going straight to Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to get answers on

01:50DOJ's plan to replace call centers at the department with AI bots.

01:57That's the kind of work we need right now in Congress.

02:00And I'm going to do everything I can as well to amplify the work that students are

02:05doing to mobilize on the ground, the work that teachers are doing to get organized,

02:11and the work that parents are doing to make sure that their kids get a good education.

02:17So I'm counting on every person who cares about our kids' education to join us.

02:25We've got to fight for an America where it's not just the kids and billionaires who get

02:29a good education, but it's every kid in every community gets a great education.

02:37This fight is our fight.
