03 March - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Whilst many parts of the UK continue to see dry and sunny weather during Thursday,
00:07there was one exception, the south-west, where we're going to see this area of low pressure,
00:11named Storm Nuria by the Portuguese, send a number of systems northwards and they'll
00:18result in additional cloud coming into southern parts of the UK. Perhaps parts of Wales, the
00:24Midlands, seeing the odd shower, very unlikely for most because the dry, sunny picture remains
00:31for the vast majority. I think Shetland's seeing a bit more cloud emerging, but otherwise
00:36it's blue skies once again. A brisk easterly wind, that means a significant temperature
00:41contrast. North sea coast, 9 or 10 Celsius. Inland, particularly through parts of Wales,
00:46the Midlands, south-east England, temperatures could reach 20 or 21 Celsius. It's a warmer
00:50day here, but a cooler day for the south-west because of the thicker cloud. And then, at
00:54the end of the afternoon, into the evening, spells of rain moving through south-west England,
00:59central southern England into Wales. The rain tends to peter out overnight as it moves north,
01:04a few spots of rain as the cloud thickens into northern Ireland by the end of the night.
01:09But temperature contrast once again because of the cloud cover increasing across south-western
01:13and western parts of the country, 8 to 12 Celsius, but a chilly start for northern and
01:20eastern parts of the country. A frost in parts of Scotland, minus 4 Celsius for Shetland,
01:24Highland and Grampian glens. And we've got this system bringing some low cloud into the
01:29north-east of Scotland, pushing into eastern parts of Scotland and the far north-east of
01:33England during Friday afternoon, remaining mostly around coasts. It brightens up meanwhile
01:38for the further west with sunshine returning and a warmer day once again, 21 Celsius widely
01:45towards the south and south-west, south Midlands as well as parts of Wales, 23 Celsius in one
01:51or two of the warmer spots. And then it's a cloud-free end to Friday for most but not
01:57for all. We do have some low cloud drifting into parts of northern England and southern
02:01Scotland and that low cloud will be persisting across some North Sea coasts through the weekend.
02:08Otherwise, it's a warm and sunny weekend away from the east coast with that fine weather
02:13continuing into next week.
