18 March - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, it's a beautiful day out there for the vast majority, long spells of sunshine,
00:05clear blue skies. One or two exceptions, most notably parts of Northern Ireland, particularly
00:11towards the north and west where we keep some cloud, and the far north and north west of
00:14Scotland, again some patchy cloud here. We'll also see this brisk south easterly breeze
00:20that will be notable along the south and east coast and it's going to feel cold in that
00:24breeze, but out of the wind, in the sunshine, feeling very pleasant indeed. The sun of course
00:29increasingly strong at this time of year, 12, possibly 13 Celsius in one or two of the
00:33warmest spots towards say north and west Wales. Overnight, we'll see the cloud clear, even
00:40parts of Northern Ireland and the far north and north west of Scotland, so it's widespread
00:45clear skies and of course under those clear skies, out of the wind, inland, a widespread
00:50frost is expected, a colder night compared with the previous night, and for the vast
00:54majority, temperatures will dip below freezing. One exception, the far south and south west
01:00of England where patchy cloud and a bit more of a breeze will prevent a frost, but it will
01:04still be a chilly start to the day, minus 5 to minus 9 Celsius in some of the colder
01:08spots of Northern England and Scotland, but it will soon warm up because of course we've
01:12got that increasingly strong March sunshine raising temperatures through the morning.
01:16Again some patchy cloud affecting parts of the south west, drifting into central parts
01:21of the UK by the afternoon, so not entirely blue skies, but we'll also see higher temperatures
01:26because of the winds coming from the south, so 16 to 18 Celsius possible for central and
01:31southern areas, and 12 or 13 further north. One or two light showers could drift into
01:37the far north west of Scotland by the end of the day, and with this increasing cloud
01:42cover in the south, there's always a chance of the odd shower coming out of that by the
01:47start of Thursday. But this is the setup on Thursday, we've got low pressure lingering
01:51once again near Portugal, and a southerly airflow for the UK importing higher temperatures,
01:56and so Thursday we could see after a frosty start, highs of 20 Celsius. Bye bye.
