00:40My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day.
00:43U.S. President Donald Trump has declared a 10 percent baseline tax on imports from all
00:48countries and higher tariff rates on dozens of nations that run trade surpluses with the
00:53United States.
00:55Imports on goods from the European Union are facing a 20 percent tax, Trump announced as
01:00he held up a chart at the White House.
01:03European Union, they're very tough, very, very tough traders.
01:07You know, you think of European Union, very friendly.
01:11They rip us off.
01:12It's so sad to see.
01:14It's so pathetic.
01:15Thirty-nine percent, we're going to charge them 20 percent, so we're charging them essentially
01:20half.
01:21Trump promised Americans that factory jobs will return back to the United States, but
01:26his policies risk a sudden economic slowdown as consumers and businesses could face sharp
01:31price hikes.
01:32For decades, our country has been looted, pillaged, raped and plundered by nations near
01:37and far, both friend and foe alike.
01:41American steel workers, auto workers, farmers and skilled craftsmen, we have a lot of them
01:46here with us today.
01:48They really suffered gravely.
01:50They watched in anguish as foreign leaders have stolen our jobs, foreign cheaters have
01:56ransacked our factories and foreign scavengers have torn apart our once beautiful American
02:02dream.
02:04Trump's announcement threatens to upend much of the architecture of the global economy
02:08and trigger broader trade wars.
02:11Long-time trade partners, including the EU, have already hit back at previously announced
02:15tariffs on steel and aluminium.
02:21Following years of reforms and European assistance, the five Central Asian countries are embarking
02:26on a strategic pivot towards Europe.
02:30The EU is seeking reliable partners in the currently rapidly changing geopolitical reality,
02:35for political and also economic reasons such as trade, investment and energy.
02:40In an exclusive interview to Euronews, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirzoyev, the host of the
02:46gathering, calls the summit a historic chance for the region.
02:50He said that over the past seven years, the trade turnover between Central Asian countries
02:54and the EU has quadrupled, amounting to 54 billion euros.
02:59Over 1,000 companies with European capital are already working in Uzbekistan with a joint
03:05investment project portfolio of 30 billion euros.
03:10It is truly a historic moment for Central Asia.
03:13We've been independent for 34 years.
03:17We celebrate this as a new step, as a milestone in our development.
03:22You know, in today's changing world, where the whole current world order is being shaken
03:32with these great tectonic shifts in geopolitics, we need reliable partners.
03:40A major area of cooperation lies in the ongoing project to create a green strategic corridor
03:47through the Caspian and Black Seas to Europe.
03:50The implementation of this initiative will lay a solid foundation for what both sides
03:54are looking for, mutually beneficial energy connectivity.
04:00Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced Israel is establishing a new security corridor
04:05across the Gaza Strip, which he named the Morak Corridor.
04:08The term Morak Corridor refers to a Jewish settlement that once stood between Rafa and
04:13Khan Yunus.
04:14Netanyahu warned that pressure will intensify if Israel's demands are not met.
04:44This follows last month's retaking of the Net Zarem Corridor in northern Gaza, which
04:56splits northern and southern Gaza.
04:59Defense Minister Israel Katz earlier said the IDF is expanding its operations to seize
05:03large areas in Gaza, aiming to crush militants and expand Israeli security zones.
05:10Overnight strikes killed over 40 people, including nearly a dozen children, according
05:14to hospital officials.
05:17Hamas still holds 59 captives, with 24 believed alive after previous deals freed others.
05:23The Hostage Families Forum expressed horror at Katz's announcement, urging the Israeli
05:27government to prioritize a deal for the hostages' release.
05:36At least four people have died following a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian
05:40city of Krivyi Rih.
05:42The head of the city's military administration said a large fire broke out and several apartment
05:47buildings were damaged.
05:50Fourteen people were injured in the strike, according to the regional governor, including
05:54an eight-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.
05:58Krivyi Rih is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and lies around 70 kilometers
06:03from the nearest front line.
06:11Marine Le Pen's hopes of becoming France's next president may still be alive after a
06:17court of appeals in Paris said it will issue a decision on her case by the summer of 2026.
06:25If the deadline is met, this would mean that a final decision could be handed down several
06:31months before the 2027 presidential election.
06:36So under what circumstances could Le Pen still run for president?
06:40There is only one scenario, that of innocence, or one in which her sentence is sufficiently
06:47reduced so that ineligibility does not run until the presidential election in 2027.
06:52There is a third scenario, that of presidential grace, but we must remember that the President
06:57of the Republic can only grant grace for a sentence that is definitive, definitive.
07:01We can only exercise this right of grace if Marine Le Pen has finished exhausting the
07:07courts of appeals.
07:10While she awaits a second trial, and despite her conviction, Marine Le Pen keeps her seat
07:16as a member of parliament in the National Assembly.
07:19But in the event of a dissolution, she will not be able to stand for re-election.
07:24Monday's conviction for embezzlement of EU parliament funds still spells trouble for
07:30her party, according to certain experts.
07:33Plan B, like for Jordan Bardella, the leader of the National Rally Party, and Le Pen's
07:59could replace her as a candidate in the 2027 election.
08:04But at only 29 years old, he could be seen as relatively inexperienced, only having served
08:10as a member of the European Parliament.
08:14While waiting for the courts to rule again, the National Rally has already launched its
08:18counter-attack.
08:19It boasts 10,000 additional party members and 300,000 signatories for its support petition
08:27since Marine Le Pen's conviction on Monday.
08:33Myanmar's ruling military junta has declared a temporary ceasefire until April 22nd to
08:38aid earthquake relief efforts.
08:40The announcement follows unilateral ceasefires by armed resistance groups that oppose military
08:45rule.
08:46The junta's statement says that ethnic armed groups and local militias must refrain from
08:50attacking state forces or expanding territory.
08:53If these conditions are not met, the army warned it will take necessary measures.
09:02Five days after the devastating earthquake struck central Myanmar, hopes of finding survivors
09:07are fading.
09:08Rescue operations have been severely hampered by the ongoing civil war and quake damage
09:12to roads and bridges.
09:15State television confirmed the death toll in Myanmar has risen to 2,886 with 4,639 injured.
09:23In neighbouring Thailand, at least 22 people were killed.
09:27Humanitarian groups are urging a broader ceasefire to facilitate aid deliveries as nearly 20
09:32million people already needed assistance before the disaster.
09:42Europe has around 2,000 combat aircraft.
09:46While European models like the French Raphael, the Swedish Gripen and the European Typhoon
09:51Consortium make up the bulk of the continent's air force, the F-35 from America's Lockheed
09:57Martin is a must-have.
10:00Italy has ordered 90 of this aircraft, Germany 35, Belgium 34 and Poland 32.
10:08All in all, Europe will be able to rely on a further 200 American aircraft in the coming
10:13years.
10:15This comes at the risk of maintaining its military dependence on the US despite EU calls
10:20for strategic autonomy.
10:42When it comes to air force, American technology has an advantage over European aircraft.
10:50There is a small difference, because the Americans, in spite of everything, master technologies,
10:54especially in terms of stealth, which the Europeans do not master today.
11:00The question is, of course, to know whether for modern combat operations, stealth is
11:07something absolutely required or whether we can do without it and rely on aircraft that
11:12are able to present a high level of discretion.
11:20Questions are also being raised concerning Washington's ability to ground aircraft through
11:25the possibility of using special software.
11:28However, using this kill switch could deal a blow to American reliability and the lucrative
11:34exports of its military industry.
