00:00The survival kit recommended by the European Commission contains the following.
00:10Water, food, a first aid kit, a torch, matches and lighter in case of power failure, a charger
00:18and an external phone battery, a radio with spare batteries, photocopies of your identity
00:23documents, cash, and board games to pass the time.
00:29This initiative is not isolated.
00:31Countries closer to Russia seem better prepared.
00:34Finland and Latvia each published an online guide to prepare their citizens for crisis
00:39and Estonian households received an updated manual.
00:42In Sweden, the survival manual on how to react in case of crisis or war was republished and
00:48distributed to households at the end of 2024.
00:52It explains how to take shelter during an air raid and how to build up food and water
00:57supplies.
00:59In January, the Polish Minister of Defense assured that every household would receive
01:04a survival guide by the end of the year.
01:06The Deputy Minister of the Interior has specified that every citizen must be prepared to survive
01:1172 hours without state assistance.
01:14Anything can happen and in Finland, where I come from, we have always been used to think
01:19like this.
01:20So I think people don't think that this is scaring.
01:25I think the opposite because when you are prepared, you also know that you will handle
01:29any situation that comes up.
01:32However, the presentation of the Commission's resilience kit has been criticized.
01:36The far right accuses Brussels of creating a climate of fear, a sentiment shared in the
01:42European Parliament by the far right group Patriots for Europe.
01:46The European Commission's proposal, it's somehow, I would regard a war hysteria.
01:53It's creating panic, it's creating fear and it doesn't help anything because we don't
02:00have war in the European Union and I hope we won't have at all.
02:07For her part, the first Vice President of the Spanish government said she was working
02:11for peace while saying that it was logical to prepare for the worst case scenario.
