00:00Let me now tell you about upcoming Ram Navami on the 6th of April and there is a plan on
00:06itinerary for Prime Minister Modi.
00:08The new Pamban bridge is set to be inaugurated by PM Modi.
00:12It has a long and rich history, will be the first lift rail bridge near Rameshwar in Tamil
00:17Nadu.
00:18Remember, of course, has a certain historic connect to India today's Anagar Keshav went
00:23to ground zero to find out, assess what is the situation like.
00:33On the occasion of Ram Navami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the new Pamban
00:38rail bridge in Rameshwaram on April 6, 2025.
00:48The new bridge will be another landmark of Indian infrastructure as it is India's first
00:53vertical lift sea bridge.
00:57The project began in February 2020 with the foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Modi
01:03in November 2019.
01:06The scenic bridge has been completed at an estimated cost of 535 crore rupees.
01:13The Pamban bridge has always been the most defining image of Rameshwaram with the old
01:18bridge having been built in 1913.
01:22These kind of vertical bridges are built in areas with high maritime traffic such as United
01:27States, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Russia.
01:31India's new Pamban bridge too joins this global list as India's first vertical lift structure.
01:38It's also built with high and advanced technology thereby allowing it to withstand harsh marine
01:45conditions.
01:46It can also accommodate trains that run in very high speeds thereby making travel all
01:52the more smoother and easier.
01:53If you see the old bridge, it's an engineering marvel which was constructed in 1914 and opened
01:59on February 22.
02:01I can state that the new Pamban bridge is a modern engineering marvel with modern technology
02:08and totally electro-mechanical mechanism and if you see the entire bridge, it is 2.08 km
02:14and it's connecting our normal land to our Rameshwaram.
02:19The bridge consists of 145 spans and features a unique vertical lift mechanism that allows
02:26the central span to rise vertically to a height of 22 meters.
02:31Unlike the old Pamban bridge which took 25 to 30 minutes to lift and allow ships to pass,
02:38the new bridge can lift in just 5 minutes.
02:41The new structure is designed to accommodate double tracks and high-speed trains reflecting
02:46modern railway standards.
02:48A bridge between history and modernity, the Pamban bridge that has stood the test of time
02:54has now undergone a magnificent makeover.
02:59The old bridge, while it took minimum 35 minutes to 40 minutes to open up its gates
03:05for ships to pass through, the new bridge that we are talking about, the vertical girder
03:09system only takes 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
03:12Just imagine the amount of time saved over here.
03:15That itself speaks volumes about the kind of effectiveness, efficiency and the kind
03:20of engineering marvel that Indians have installed here for the first time.
03:26And number two is regarding the safety feature.
03:29If the wind speed crosses 58 kmph, then there is a very efficient alert system in place
03:36to ensure that no train passes through this railway track.
03:40So 58 kmph is the said limit.
03:43There is an entire system of computerized systems in place over here that works like
03:48clockwork, thereby ensuring that safety system is not compromised at any cost.
