00:00These meetings that have been held so many times.
00:05Look, we are part of the bicameral commission that is studying the various
00:08criminal code projects that have been deposited.
00:10We have said on repeated occasions that this is a responsibility that we have as a Congress
00:14to ensure that this code is approved.
00:16More than 70 types of penalties are being typified that do not exist in the legislation today,
00:20but we are also going to break with the disparity of this element that consists of more or less
00:241,810 with the criminal code that is from 2015, which for me is one of the main causes
00:29so that the Dominican Republic today has the largest number of people in prisons
00:33in a preventive way and not with definitive sentences.
00:35I think that is one of the great challenges we have and we will be contributing our ideas
00:39to try to finally have a criminal code.
00:41How many projects are there in total?
00:43There are five projects, there are three that come from the House of Representatives
00:46and two that were submitted by the Senate.
00:48We are getting to know the first one and then we will continue to advance.
00:51Of these, does anyone contemplate the three causes or none have causes?
00:54We still do not know in the sense, I think that the House of Representatives,
00:58none have the causes and I think that the Senate maintains it as it is,
01:01but we will be talking and trying to respect the dignity of women
01:05and above all that the will of the majority is respected here in the House of Representatives
01:09and in the Senate of the Republic.
01:10And once and for all, will it be approved?
01:12We have those expectations, but above all we have that commitment.
01:15You know that this is my first time as a deputy, I served six months here in the House,
01:19but within the things that we talked about in the campaign and what we heard the most from the people,
01:23it was the desire that finally the criminal code comes out of the corridors of Congress
01:26and reaches those who administer justice to be able to make the process much more transparent
01:31and try that whoever does the wrong thing truly fulfills the consequences.
