00:00Wow, really nice to meet you.
00:04Oh my gosh, what an honor.
00:06Our inaugural Mother of the Year is here.
00:08I mean, how special.
00:10You've raised two beautiful, creative, talented daughters.
00:13How does it feel to get that recognition here tonight?
00:16Well, it's wonderful.
00:18You know, not just for me as a mother,
00:20but for all the mothers that have contributed
00:23and sacrificed so much so their kids can have their dreams.
00:27I think it's really cool that Billboard is doing this,
00:30and I'm very honored to be the first person.
00:33Absolutely, and tonight we celebrate women in music,
00:36but I also want to recognize women and mothers like you
00:39who play a key role behind the scenes in shaping today's superstars.
00:42So what was the most important word of support or advice
00:46that you gave Beyoncé and Solange on their path to success?
00:50Well, and Kelly Rowland, because I raised Kelly also.
00:55Just to stay grounded, stay humble,
00:59and treat people the way you want to be treated.
01:03The talent part they already had down,
01:05but I think them staying grounded has really helped them in their career.
01:10Absolutely, and it's very important to stay grounded
01:13and just make sure to always be humble,
01:15because when you're humble, more people appreciate that.
01:18Yes, and that's what a lot of people say about Solange and Beyoncé and Kelly,
01:23is that they're humble and they're great people to be around,
01:25and obviously a lot of that is a testament to you.
01:27Yes.
01:28That's the most important thing.
01:30Yes, absolutely, and so is support systems,
01:32and I can already tell that you had the best support system for your daughters as well.
01:37I tried. I tried my best.
01:39And kind of going off those lines with giving advice and staying grounded,
01:43what would you tell someone like 14-year-old Jazzy here?
01:46I know, I can't. She's so poised.
01:48So poised.
01:49I mean, she's already a superstar,
01:51a lot like Beyoncé and Solange were at her age.
01:54What would you tell someone like her as she's making her way up the industry?
01:56I would just tell her the same advice,
01:58just to stay grounded and just to work on your craft,
02:02like you're already doing.
02:04You are just very special.
02:06Thank you so much for that.
02:07Keep up the good work.
02:08It means a lot coming from you. Oh, my gosh.
02:10Well, thank you so much for your time, and that really means a lot to me.
02:12Yes, thank you. What an honor.
02:13So nice to meet you. Have a great night.
02:14Nice to meet you.
